View Full Version : Choosing TOB NPCs

I read that at the start of the expansion you get to choose your NPCs from your new fortress and they will be decked accordingly etc. And with the coming-back-from-dead of Saverok, I was wondering if anyone knew whether TOB will see the return of Yoshimo. I personally hope they do, as I think that it would be an interesting plot (his quest to right the wrongs of his past etc.) as well as give us a NPC thief to take advantage of the high level thief stuffs...

What do you think?

We can only hope that they'll return Yoshimo. He was my favouritte char. Always happy... I always kept him untill he SPOILER
betrayed me, no matter of the XP I lost. Not to mention that he is the only true thief in the game.
Now a time to make a prayer to Black Isle and hope they heard us.

since they're going to have wish in bg2, you should be able to remove a geas, so if ditch him before going to spellhold, he will still be alive untill a certain amount of time, cant remember how long really.

Though I think it has been up to discussion somewhere, and the conclusion was that black isle wouldn't put him in TOB, because of players who had him with them to spellhold.
Plz correct me if I'm wrong, cuz I can't remember it all of it.

maybe i saw it wrong but wasn't Yoshimo killed?

if you drop him from your party, he is not appearing in spellhold. I think, not sure, that he dies when you return from spellhold. But if you dont enter the CC, you will never get the message that he died, so to some point I guess he will still be an "active" NPC. I saw something a geas would last about 70 days somewhere, not sure if this is how it works in the game

So Yoshimo is like Shrodinger's Cat? He's both alive and dead until you actually observe him in the Copper Coronet? ;)

Yea, but he's actually less fictional than that lame theory. ;)
About the topic: Yoshimo WILL NOT return in ToB.

Sadly Yoshimo won't be coming back in ToB, but if he was then sarevok would probably not be in it.

Anyway, why not use Jan? With an exp cap of 8 million, he would be a great thief and a great mage. At the moment, I wouldn't swap him for Yoshimo any day, as he's really powerful, despite the lack of special snares.

Well, I suppose it was a real dissapointment to have given your NPC so much exp and then he gets killed and you have to stick with Imoen or Nalia's terrible theif abilities.

I never liked Yoshimo anyway. Right from the start there was an air of distrust about him, and if I had of taken him onboard I would have probably restarted when he got killed.

I don't know why it is there cause I've never seen it in the game, but if you use the Infinity Engine explorer yoshimos heart can be found in there as an object...

So I guess that means that he must be dead?

This is possibly a spoiler: Yoshimo may be in ToB. This screenshot will show that you can ASK for Yoshimo to be returned : http://www.gamer.co.il/media/bg2tob/tob08.jpg . However, due to the certainity that everyone here shows that he will not be in ToB, I can only assume that if you select the option, it will tell you that it is impossible to summon him due to something or other.

From Dave Gaider, (which I posted in the forum update on June 11) -

Yoshimo in ToB: I said this once before, elsewhere, but here it is again:

Yoshimo does not return. He is dead.

Hi, this is of the pics i brought you guys.. you can clearly see there (at the abyss) that you can summon yoshimo. Anyway, i took these pics from an israeli site which has been playing tob for the last 10 days...
so it's official - yoshimo is back.
Another thing, if you play a monk you can have a very good find traps ability, and imoen (with a few rings) can disable traps pretty good and she has the traps ability..

No Yoshimo is not back. You can summon him IF and only IF:
a) you start a new expanion game
b) you start the expansion game without ever having him in your party

Then, and only then, will he be in ToB. But he won't come back from the dead if you had him in your BG2 game and got that far in the plot where he dies.

Wel suppose that makes sense. I need yoshimo now after Anomen went mad in the underdark and killed jan. I never thought he would actually get around to doing it but oh well i won't miss jan.

Won't miss Jan! A shame! I can imagine summoning Jan to your party. <Over loudspeakers> Jan Jakobar Jansen please report to Hell immediately, your being summoned by Bhaal-spwan extraordinaire *insert name here*

Actually, I've tested this out by uninstalling BG2 (as I had so many customs it woulda been screwy anyway) and deleting everything, then reinstalling BG2, and then ToB, and starting a new game with ToB.

Yoshimo cannot be summoned. This is the response you will ALWAYS get:

"I cannot do as you ask, Child of Bhaal. The one you seek is dead and thus forever beyond my reach. His thread no longer connects with yours."

I dont know what the big deal about the lack of a true thief is. Its very easy to correct. Open up shadowkeeper (i assume about everyone with bgII has it by know), scroll over to imoen and make her what she was supposed to be. I did this in SoA when i got her but, at the thief level she would be at in bgII:ToB, give her the black dragon armor, mercykiller ring and ring of danger sense, katana +2 and boots of speed holy **** does she kick the crap outta anything yoshimo coulda been.

Alex, thou hast committed blasphemy and spoken the name of the Hellspawn of these realms...Shadowkeeper. The voices of the righteous will flame thee if ye speaketh the name of such evil too often.

On the other hand...Good Idea! Always liked Imoen better as a thief.

Welcome to the Forums.

I do regret it however. Having just beat the game hours ago, my biggest disapointment was that I never got to cast a single 9th level mage spell, Aerie just doesnt level fast enough!!! And when you get to the final fight you'll see why there wasnt any single class thief npcs playable to the end, it makes it waaaay to easy.
