View Full Version : Killing Abazigal?
True Belief Tue, 2nd Mar '04, 10:56pm I searched on the board and found that this guy is supposed to be so much easier to kill then Draconis. Yet for some strange and/or bizarre reason he seems destroy me in seconds. I managed to kill Draconis easily compared to this guy. The worst I've managed to get him to is Injured, when he's a Dragon, and that was with 4 party memebers dead. What the Hell do you guys do to make him that easy?

Sintryst Tue, 2nd Mar '04, 11:05pm I simply set up enough traps and lured him into them. His ice demons (been awhile, can't recall the names) are a pain. Plus there's his hardiness. Okay, why did I post when I have no solution?
david w Tue, 2nd Mar '04, 11:27pm The human form can be dealt with pretty easily with greater whirlwind attacks and the like. As for the dragon form... a lot harder, but by this stage in the game you should have fought several really tough dragon fights (particularly Draconis) so Abazigal shouldn't prove too many problems. Just be ready to take down his magical protections and ready your fighters with greater whirlwind attacks every chance they get.
spetznaz Wed, 3rd Mar '04, 2:16pm Set up (spike)traps, buff yourself with spells, use Whirlwind and Critical Stike attacks. Make sure that his human form doesn't trigger the traps, those are for his dragon form. Hardiness is a must for your fighter, as well as high AC. Blades rock against him with Off Spin and G Evasion ;)
casey Wed, 3rd Mar '04, 6:08pm Like just about every fight in the game you'll get different answers, but none of them are neccesarily wrong or right.
It's probably a good idea to stay out of abazigals sight while you kill the salamanders with a Planetar summon or distract them with Mordenkainens swords, while you fight him. The safest thing to do is probably to have a fighter cast Hardiness until they are immune to physical damage for a while with a protection from lightning scroll on them to take the original attacks, and the fighter can just kill him on his own without any help other then some breaches.
spetznaz Thu, 4th Mar '04, 12:08am Hardiness ain't cumulative is it?
david w Thu, 4th Mar '04, 12:57am I wouldn't have thought so. If it was, any high level fighter would be able to gain 100% resistance to all forms of physical damage for a dozen or more rounds. Even for a high level ability, that would be tremendously overpowered. I think 40% resistance is the limit.
Plus which, I've wounded Abazigal while he's had Hardiness working. The manual states that it gives 40% resistance to all forms of physical damage so even with it in place you've still got a 6 in 10 chance of wounding him with each attack and if you're using Greater Whirlwind Attacks, you'll be hitting him so many times the Hardiness factor is hardly going to matter.
True Belief Thu, 4th Mar '04, 1:01am Yer it's those damn salamanders that really annoy me. May try taking most of them out before taking him on. Cheers for the tips. Hopefully next time I won't end up as little chunks of meat. :D
david w Thu, 4th Mar '04, 9:44am I seem to think the salamanders can be killed with Greater Deathblow.
casey Thu, 4th Mar '04, 10:47am David have you actually tried it for yourself? in answer to the question yes it is cumulative up until the pint where hits can heal you.
david w Thu, 4th Mar '04, 2:15pm The "seem to think" bit meant that I *think* the salamanders can be killed with Greater Deathblow but I can't offhand remember. I know the drakes in the Improved Abazigal mod can be killed with it so I guess it stands to reason that the salamanders - who are far easier enemies to defeat overall - can be killed instantly this way.
Then again, the salamanders are little more than a nuisance in this fight anyway. Any party at this stage of the game is likely to tear through a dozen of them without problems.
It's Abazigal you have to watch out for.
Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Thu, 4th Mar '04, 3:23pm Mordekin's Swords are very helpful in this fight. While they don't do a whole lot of damage to Abazigal, the swords are immune to just about everything. They only take 1 or 2 points of damage every time they get hit. They won't kill Abazigal for you, but they will distract him enough that he'll be trying to kill them instead of your characters.
casey Thu, 4th Mar '04, 3:29pm I think these Salamanders however are special in a way...
The half dozen Salamanders gaurding the enterance to the liquid breath potion fluid seemed to be better all around then the average Salamander not to mention the fact that hitting them causes your character to take about half the damage they give out when on insane difficulty. ouch, suddenly the common Salamander becomes hard to kill in groups, at least without anyone taking serious damage and not using any abilitys to help, seeing as they are so simple it's a bit of a waste really.
Rastor Thu, 4th Mar '04, 10:21pm Obviously some people don't know how physical resistance works.
You'll wound him on every hit that beats his AC, but you will do 60% damage for the duration of the spell.
casey, do you have the patch installed? Hardiness should not be cumulative with itself.
Algarion Fri, 5th Mar '04, 9:23pm Deal with him as with any other dragon in the game. Improved casting speed (alcaza.. something), Time Stop, Lower resistance and finger of death. Some may call this tac bit cheesy but if don't start with the spellcasting untill he actually turn hostile on you you'll find it hard not to be interupted in your spellcasting.
Sojourner Fri, 5th Mar '04, 9:26pm Maze him and set traps where he'll reappear. :D
david w Sat, 6th Mar '04, 1:23am Maze only traps him for a few seconds and the pesky salamanders will prevent you from setting any traps in the time allowed.
But you *can* set traps near the doorway and then lead him towards you...
Register Fri, 19th Mar '04, 7:29pm Bingo, and that's what I do, and it ain't cheese.
Bombur Fri, 19th Mar '04, 7:35pm I don't see why the salamanders are such a problem they've never done anything but slow me down for a round or two. I use farsight to scope out the room, then summon things to kill the salamanders and the avatar. Once he's a dragon, there are many ways to get rid of him. Traps, timestop, summons, etc.
