View Full Version : Voices and sound effect problem
Radithrade Sat, 24th Apr '04, 8:01pm I seem to be having a slight problem with Shadows of Amn. While the game works fine (with ToB) on my laptop, I just recently installed it back on my desktop and there are no sounds, voices, or sound effects whatsoever. I do however have music. At first I thought my mods were the problem, but after reinstalling SoA only the sounds are still missing. I also tried turning off EAX and even checking my sound card but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions?
Taluntain Sun, 25th Apr '04, 12:26am Do you have ToB installed, in which case this topic should be in the ToB forum?
Splunge Sun, 25th Apr '04, 1:36am I think from what she's saying, she only has SoA installed.
Do you have the official patch installed? And either the SP fixpack or Baldurdash? If not, then these might help.
Edit: corrected gender (oops! :o )

Radithrade Sun, 25th Apr '04, 3:01am I (she) has this problem with both ToB and SoA, but I posted this in the SoA forum because even without ToB installed I still cannot hear sounds. I tried this with the official patch and Baldurdash fixpacks but to no avail.
Taluntain Sun, 25th Apr '04, 1:21pm I'll move this to the ToB forum since it concerns both. Anyway, which soundcard do you have?
Radithrade Sun, 25th Apr '04, 10:30pm I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. Sorry if I was in the wrong forum, I didn't quite know where to post the question.
It's ok Splunge, no offense taken.
Taluntain Sun, 25th Apr '04, 10:58pm I remember reading a topic where someone mentioned that Turtle Beach soundcards have some unfixable problems with IE games, but I can't seem to find it. It was very recent, maybe someone can provide a link?
Rastor Mon, 26th Apr '04, 9:09pm I remember reading that too, but a search only brings up this thread.
You mentioned that you had mods installed. Which ones?
Alavin Mon, 26th Apr '04, 9:45pm It's here (http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=001467).
Bombur Mon, 26th Apr '04, 9:52pm I had this problem long ago, but not with a Turtle Beach sound card. The issue was hardware acceleration. Go to your "run" line in Windows, then run "dxdiag." Turn down or off your hardware acceleration for sound and see if that does the trick. You can also play with your hardware acceleration settings in your audio properties in Windows. Backing off or turning off those might help.
Here's a link to the old thread where Rathan hit on the solution for me: Rathan's Wisdom (http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=004994)
Radithrade Tue, 27th Apr '04, 2:56am I did have mods installed (only weidu) but I uninstalled them to see if that was the problem (and it wasn't). Thanks for the info, I'll try doing the hardware acceleration thing first. It's weird though, because this is the second time I've had BGII installed on this computer, the first time it was installed I had no problems, even the EAX worked just fine.
Edited 4/26/04 9:57pm - w00t! Turning off hardware acceleration worked! Thanks for all your help guys!
