I know this has probably been posted here before but in truth I don't have much time to search and thought I'd just write this quickly so excuse my spelling.

Using Shadow Keeper, I've been TRYING to change the avatar of my character to a drow. That's it. Not a change in alignment, not stats, just the avatar. Now it saves a new copy of the game and when I open it, my avatar remains the same. I've tried changing other things like my inventory, stats etc but the avatar remains the same.

I have NO mods installed, the latest patch, so WHAT could possibly be going wrong. All I want is my avatar to be that of a drow!

Hmm, this is weird. Are you sure you are doing it right? When you SK your edited game again, what does its avatar read as? Drow or your own character? :hmm:

I am not sure if this helps or not, but try unequipping all of your stuff, and SK while you are totally naked. This may help. Or may not. Sorry.

OMG I don't believe it! I honestly don't understand HOW that is possible but hey, who cares??

One thing though, the doll doesn't show up in the inventory screen, although when I put different armor on, the avatar changes back to the original. Is this is a normal thing?? If so I guess I'd have to change it every time I wanted to change my armor :(

Also, the sound seems to echo, as if my PC was in a cave, like for example say where you buy items from Tal in the BOM items mod. Is there a way around that?

Btw THANKYOU Silver!!!

Is there any chance you installed the BG2 Tweaks component "change avatar when wearing armor / mage robes"? If so, it could be the reason it's switching between your old avatar and the drow one.

As for the paperdoll, that's normal, because the drow avatar doesn't have a matching paperdoll for the Inventory Screen to display!

The echoey sound can be solved by disabling the Environmental Audio option at the Sound menu. I have the same issue - in my game, the echo kicks in in bizarre places (like Waukeen's Promenade!). I'm not sure if it's a game issue or some incompability with my audio card, though.

Hopefully, that helped you a bit.

Yes!!! Mine would sometimes occur in the promenade too! So I just Disable environmental audio and it will revert to normal? Does that mean some of the background noises will be absent though :(

Hmm as for the avatar thing, I remember installing that component but maybe I forgot to uninstall it..

Yeah, all you have to do is disable it. Don't worry, you'll not miss out on any sounds - all Environmental Audio does, AFAIK, is to add effects depending on the ambient the engine is portraying. Background noises are controlled by the Ambient Volume slider :) k

That was actually WAY simpler than I thought! Thankyou :D

I don't like avatar morphing scripts anymore. That auto-changing script when you equip an armor or robes does not give you freedom to choose which avatar you want any time, and the 'avatar chagne AI script' of that particular mod caused a serious game conflict in my game which forced me to abandon a very high lvl game. Sigh. :( So get rid of them, and use SK if you desperately want to change your avie.

Sometimes I play a Mage/Thief and when you put on a robe it doesn't show, therefore I have to use the avatar script, although at the moment, wanting to play as a drow, I had to uninstall it. Sounds simple NOW doesn't it!

@Silverstar: was that a conflict with some other mod? You got me kinda scared because I never went too far on a game with those components installed.

^Ooh I did not want to make you scared. There was a big trouble about fighter HLAs in my game, well, I am not sure, but I guess avatar scripting component was to blame. Here is why:

I had Improved Anvil (cool mod!) and one of its bosses uses Greater Whirlwind Attack. But in my game when he activated the ability, the message said 'Morphed into Female Human Thief Avatar' and there was no effect at all. This message is right from AM script! It was OK, but when Jaheira leveled up to get her first HLA, the game crashed to windows. This always happens when a fighter levels up and the list of fighter HLAs, including GWW comes up. I think, for some reason, the Avatar Morphing script corrupted the GWW data in my game. I even looked at SK for some enemies I know who has GWW as their special ability, they all had 'Morphed into Female Thief avatar' message written instead of their GWW attack icons!? :hmm:

Ofcourse the game would suck without being able to level up all of my fighters, so I had to uninstall my game :bang: ..sigh...it was high lvl too!

I suspected the Avatar Morphing Script was somehow to blame, so I made this test:

I reinstalled a similiar amount of mods minus the avatar morphing script...and then CLUA consoled XP to lvl up my fighters, they do and their GWW works fine! Also CLUA consoled IA bosses and they do use their GWW correctly too! I think this time there will be no problems, however I am mighty busy with BG1-with Easy TuTu and lots of other mods, it is fun!

Hm... right, thanks for all the info, Silverstar.

I think I'll avoid the morphing script this time, then. It's not so hard to use SK anyway. Surely it won't be the nightmare of my IWD game, when I DaleKeeped my F/T a hooded Thief avatar, and every time she died (frequently!) I had to do it again because when raising her, the game used the original Fighter avatar.
