View Full Version : Vhailor's Helm - kickarse for assassins/thieves!
strange_machine Fri, 11th Jan '02, 4:46am If you folks don't know yet is that Vhailors (sp??) helm from bonus merchant cd (Deidre) grants the ability to use simulacrum once per day. That means a warrior like character can make a copy of himself!!! Which is kickarse! I played the game through SoA and TOB as an assassin. Once i got my use any item ability i purchased/found some wicked wicked scrolls!!! Ie, timestop, abhi dalzim, wish, etc... anything you want! I load those badboys up in the quickslot with my thief. Invoke the power of the vhailors helm to simulacrum myself. What this does is that it creates an exact copy of myself lower level of course, but also the items in my quickslot. So my simulacrum can recite those scrolls, ie timestop and use his assassination skill to his heart content! However, the catch is that i used those scrolls with my simulacrum which means i didn't waste any at all!!! I still have them with me! You can also invoke item abilities with your simulacrum and not waste it on your original self. You can put on a real horror show when you have an assassin that can cast time stop!!! I mean they have that delayed time stop trap, but the spell is way better! Plus you can load the quickslot up with other killer spells to wack your oponents down to size. However, i just love to cast time stop with my simulacrum and assassinate them! Woot. I chopped down people like no body business. The sweet thing is that i didn't have to break a single sweat. hahahaha. I dont know if people used this tactic as well, but i just thought it was somewhat clever... Maybe considered cheapp000llaaa but fun fun nonetheless.

Alienboy Fri, 11th Jan '02, 7:31am It's cool i'll try it out.
Corr Raven Sun, 13th Jan '02, 1:20pm My character is always fighter/assasin, but can get only to a limited level, cos you can't dual-class in kits, so I start with assasin and dual-class him when he does 6X backstab damage. However, I played once as an assasin, and it was really cool, especially with the special ability assasination! better then whirlwind. if only assasin could achieve at least mastery with one weapon.
Alith Anar Sat, 19th Jan '02, 3:44am Shadowkeeper can allow you to dual-class TO a kit, but you can only ever have ONE kit.
As for the helm, yes, it's nice because of Simulacrum and also AC: +1
I wouldn't consider this cheating because of the PRINCIPLE of dual-classing. Kits are available only to single classes because of the 'specialisation' factor. A DUAL-CLASS is ALWAYS focussing on one class, so there's no ethical problem there really.

Llandon Sat, 19th Jan '02, 4:26am Try using them with a solo F/M/T.....it's allways nice to hang out with your self.
TBurma316 Mon, 1st Apr '02, 9:02pm How can you dual to a kit using SK? I'm assuming you choose the class you want to dual to eg thief, then with SK change kit to assasin or whatever, but do the special abilities automatically become available ie poison weapon or do you have to add them yourself? I must admit I have not tried it but if it does work that would have been a lot more fun levelling up to level 30+ as a kit than a straight thief. Does this also work for multiclass characters?
Israfel Mon, 1st Apr '02, 9:20pm Returning to the original topic (ie "Simulacrum" strategy) that's a trick that I constantly use with my mage. I have 3 mages (me, Nalia and Imoen), and all level 7 spell slots are busy with Project Image. My fighting strategy is:
*(all mages) cast "Project Image"
*an image casts "Time Stop" (& Improved Alacrity if possible)
*the image casts 3/4 Abi Dalzim's, first time you Breach and Pierce magic if you need
*repeat for all 3 images
*have Keldorn cast dispel to remove the images
*repeat 4/5 times
Of course you will rarely need to cast so many spells but this means that, as long as the fighters & clerics in the frontline can keep tanking (but you can support them with summoned creatures), you can cast about 30 Abi-Dalzim's in a single fight. A pity that the Demogorgon isn't halted by Time Stop...

Viking Tue, 2nd Apr '02, 10:37am The true beauty of Project Image v Simalucrum is of course that you don't lose any levels for your spell casting. Of course you can't actually hit anything, so that rules it out for backstab/fighting strategies.
Other than that, Project Image is just far too powerful for spell casters at high levels. Solo sorcerer in TOB? No problem so far..... You're never alone with a project image spell.
Volar Blackmane Tue, 2nd Apr '02, 5:10pm But doesn't this approach remove all the challenge of the game? And yes, it does matter.
Alith, are you saying that if the game doesn't let you do something, and you cheat to do it, the action wasn't actually cheating if you can come up with a good excuse? ("But I'm a child of Bhaal and should be divinely powerful, of course all my stats should be 25! I'll just edit it in, as the game doesn't allow me to do it otherwise." Kind of an extreme example, but I've figured out they work best.)
ArchAngel Thu, 4th Apr '02, 3:51pm Ahh yes. Vhailor's Helmet. Most valued item in the Realms. Makes Godhood a walk in the park.
Quick itemslots. Protection from magic scrolls. rod of ressurection. timestop.... almost anything goes. Very powerfull indeed.
The reason I uninstalled the bonus merchants for good. Which lame bloke created that helmet? :toofar:
Israfel Thu, 4th Apr '02, 4:17pm As for dual-classing TO a kit, I agree with Alith: I see no reason for not allowing it. Yet, before using Shadowkeeper to try a Fighter/Priest or the like, I'd ask the dev-team whether it was wanted or they simply had troubles in creating this feature.
Desu Sat, 6th Apr '02, 7:18pm ArchAngel, you can just not buy or use the helmet... there are other items included in the Bonus Merchants Pack o_0
Blackthorne TA Sat, 6th Apr '02, 7:30pm Obviously, our NobleArchangel can't control himself ;)
Desu Sun, 7th Apr '02, 3:12am Hehehe
Its something inside of him that compells him to buy the Vhailors Helm if he has the Bonus Merchants installed!
ArchAngel Sun, 7th Apr '02, 5:49am My precious..... :nasty greedy look: :D
Honestly, If it is there I would buy it.. Robe of Vecna too. And.. and.. *shiver* :1eye:
Desu Sun, 7th Apr '02, 6:44am You've read too much Tolkien imo ;).
And the Robe of Vecna aaaaaarf... so powerful :/
I once had a mage with the Robe of Vecna and Vhailors Helm and Ring of Gaxx. Ill spare you the details :/
