I'm about to actually finish Watcher's Keep for the first time and I'm told that there are multiple ways to go about this. Any suggestions on the most interesting/fun? The most experience? The best goodies (if any)?

View Full Version : The End of Watcher's Keep Niskers Fri, 20th Feb '04, 7:17pm I'm about to actually finish Watcher's Keep for the first time and I'm told that there are multiple ways to go about this. Any suggestions on the most interesting/fun? The most experience? The best goodies (if any)? Alavin Fri, 20th Feb '04, 7:28pm To get the most experience, in the Imprisoned One's presence, read the scroll, go to the surface, tell the Helmites to go in and check, then read the scroll given you by the ghost. For the most fun, install the harder person from Ascension, then give him a bash. I haven't tried him for a while, but it's an entertaining battle. david w Fri, 20th Feb '04, 7:52pm Though banishing Demogorgon nets more XP, I always find it very more rewarding to kill him. Reading the scroll and banishing him while he can't do a thing to fight back strikes me as a bit anti-climactic. I didn't fight my way through the five levels of Watcher's Keep to beat the toughest enemy in the game with a scroll. Zephyr Angel Sat, 21st Feb '04, 5:39am Well, IMO Demogorgon is not exactly 'THE' most powerful enemy there is. Well,it all depends on what is the tactics of the gamer. I breezed past Demogorgon with only three re-tries but I think, the most deadly opponent is Kangaxx still, when you characters are still in their infancy to god-hood. Yeah, I have to agree that its is much more fun to slay that albino ape than banish it to some unknown monkey-haven. Fight hard and slay harder, the demon won't last at all that long! Jhonka Sat, 21st Feb '04, 5:52am @Alavin: What level of WK does a ghost give you a scroll? I'm in the teleport maze at the moment and haven't met any scroll-giving ghosts. Bloodtitan Sat, 21st Feb '04, 9:22am hmmm .... echo: "gave mage staff of magi and activated spell trap. summoned enough monsters to empty kangaxx the lich and killed him. sent mage as close as possible to demilich, had paladin hastened and sent to demilich, a bit more away than mage. both bashed him to ~1/3 life. ring of the ram did the rest." demogorgon is much more difficult i think. immun to certain things like timestop and has a good thac0, can lvldrain and summon some "minor" demons. Winterine Sat, 21st Feb '04, 11:20am I like to go in, read the scroll, send the Helmites in, kill Demogorgon, then read the Helm scroll once I'm outside. What I do is drop the scroll once I'm inside and before I start fighting Demogorgon so it doesn't crumple to dust, then kill Demo, and speak to the Helmite guy. Then I pick up the scroll, run for the exit, get outside and immediately read the scroll. I can't actually remember if you get the extra XP for doing it both ways, but I find doing that is most fulfilling. :) And I think Demogorgon is much harder than Kangaxx. For Kangaxx, all you need to do is get a good weapon, and cast Spell Immunity. (I play a fighter/mage), buff up and attack :) @Jhonka: You have to actually go and have spoken to Demogorgon, and left the place one way or another. You go up to speak to the Helmites, and convince them to go in, and a Helmite Ghost will appear and give it to you. Baronius Sat, 21st Feb '04, 12:41pm Keep to beat the toughest enemy [Demogorgon] in the game with a scroll. [..] the most deadly opponent is Kangaxx still, [..] And I think Demogorgon is much harder than Kangaxx. To each his own. I don't think that either of them is the most dangerous enemy. It depends on the party and playing style, so the battle we consider as the hardest varies if playing with another party IMO. On the other hand, Draconis can generally mean great danger, even to a Sorcerer. As for me, I have always liked challenges against such powerful creatures, so I usually destroy the Prince of Demons in battle. However, I was disappointed a bit when I realised it hadn't left any items when disappeared. :( After so much fight. Rastor Mon, 23rd Feb '04, 2:20am Though banishing Demogorgon nets more XPKilling demogorgon nets 100k xp per character. Banishing him is 80k xp. Sparhawk the Pandion Mon, 23rd Feb '04, 3:16am Plus I think you get the 30k per character for talking to the Helmite. Faraaz Mon, 23rd Feb '04, 8:42am Kill him...its one of the most fun battles in the game, right up there with the one with Firkraag and Kangaxx and it gets you a helluva lot of XP too. As far as goodies are concerned, you don't get any...but that little plus in the top right corner of ALL your party memebers sure brings a smile to your face :) . Especially if you've got a few Spike Traps to lay around Demo's Spawn... ;) Off Topic: I do NOT think spamming Spike Traps on Demo is cheating...cheesy maybe, but its NOT cheating! |
