View Full Version : Voice actors
Dragon's Jewel Thu, 12th Oct '06, 12:39am I know this is such an inconsequential thing, but it really threw me for just a second, and I had to share.
You know the voice actor for Minsc? I actually don't know his name myself, so if anyone else does, it would solve that conundrum for me. Anyway, I was watching Curious George with my daughter, and I heard that same voice actor's voice coming out of the mouth of an ice cream maker! It was just... weird!
Edit: It's Jim Cummings, and not only did he voice Minsc, he also voiced.... Gorion. Weeeeiiiiird.

Ironhawk Skylord Thu, 12th Oct '06, 12:46am His name is Jim Cummings and is a voice actor who has done quite a bit of work :)
Splunge Thu, 12th Oct '06, 2:52am I did the voice of Keldorn.
Silverstar Thu, 12th Oct '06, 11:24am ^Splunge, YOU are the voice of Keldorn? Really? That's so cool!
Harbourboy Thu, 12th Oct '06, 5:52pm No, Splunge was just the model for the Keldorn portrait.
JSBB Thu, 12th Oct '06, 6:25pm Heh, if he did the voice of Keldorn that would also mean that Splunge did the voice for Mojo Jojo in the Powerpuff Girls cartoons, the telephone voice from the Scream films, a large assortment of imperial voices for several Star Wars game, and the usual huge assortment of misc. credits that voice actors seem to accumulate.
Trellheim Thu, 12th Oct '06, 6:51pm Check Wikipedia if you want info about the voice actors
zerox Thu, 12th Oct '06, 6:52pm i just remember flipping through the TV channels and hearing something along the line of "Moosk will be free". Turns out somebody behind the kids cartoon "Codename: kids next door" must love the BG series since they had jim cummings come in a basically redo minsc for this character, "Moosk", in one of the episodes. Heck, his animation was basically minsc with a mustache and missing a hamster.
Equester Thu, 12th Oct '06, 7:17pm actually check www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) you can find a lot of voice actors for games there, including baldurs gate
Dragon's Jewel Thu, 12th Oct '06, 9:03pm I did an imdb check and Minsc is also... Darkwing Duck. I think my brain may very well explode.
(On an off rant, my two very favourite voice actors are Simon Templeman--who voiced Kain in the Legacy of Kain series--and Michael Bell, who voiced Raziel in the same series, as well as Haer'Dalis and a host of other misc. characters in the BG series. Voice acting, gotta love it).
Trellheim Thu, 12th Oct '06, 9:48pm (off rant as well, mine's Cam Clarke, Kratos Aurion in Tales of Symphonia, Liquid Snake in Metal Gear..... wow  and Drizzt in BG2!)
Dragon's Jewel Thu, 12th Oct '06, 11:03pm (Cam Clarke was Drizzt?! That's really cool. He also voiced Sky in Jade Empire, and I'm almost positive that he was Aran Linvail in BG2. After I played JE, I played BG2 again, and his "And incidentally? Good luck" made me do a double take.)
Splunge Fri, 13th Oct '06, 2:14am @Silverstar - gotcha! :p
No, Splunge was just the model for the Keldorn portrait. Yup. Even got a bikini wax for the occasion, but they kept the picture above the waist. All that pain for nuthin' :(
Killjoy Fri, 13th Oct '06, 8:13am No, Cam Clarke is the braying bandit ("So I kicked him in the head until he was dead!") and all of BG1's default male voices ("Time for a little of the rough and tumble").
Drizzt is played by Jeff Bennett, who was also the voice of Xan.
Silvershield Fri, 13th Oct '06, 8:36am Hehe the other night me and my friends were a litttttttle tipsy and started watching some kids show on tv :p Jimmy Neutron I think :D Anyway, one of the villians had the same voice as Kalah from BGII. I was just like WOW :D
Old Raven Fri, 13th Oct '06, 9:15am I think it's kind of funny that Billy West (Lehtinan and others), Tress MacNeille (Edwina and others) and Maurice LaMarche (Yoshimo, Renal Bloodscalp and others) all did voices for BgII, and then ended up starring together in Futurama as well (I love that series, I hear they're planning to make some new episodes). :)
Trellheim Fri, 13th Oct '06, 9:53am Drizzt has different voice actors. In BG it's Bennet, BG2 Clarke
Silverstar Fri, 13th Oct '06, 4:02pm Splunge, you really fooled me for a moment there...for a moment. :p
I think all voice actors have done a good job in SoA part of the game. Especially Jon's and Bodhi's are masterfully done.
Those in ToB are not that masterfully done, I think. That is my personal impression, however.
Trellheim Fri, 13th Oct '06, 5:17pm Yup, great voice acting, have to agree with that ToB part also, atleast for the french version of the game is... 'orrible!
Ironhawk Skylord Fri, 13th Oct '06, 6:21pm For my part, I really like Melissan, Gromnir and Solar in ToB. :)
Silverstar Fri, 13th Oct '06, 7:03pm I think Sendai's voice acting sucks big time...too theatre like for my tastes. Draconis, and Abazigal are not great too. At least when compared to Jon Irenicus. Melissan is not bad, I would say. 'You shall suffer!' Now that is scary! :mommy:
Mordokai Fri, 13th Oct '06, 8:45pm I'll agree with you on Sendai and Abazigal, but personaly, I quite enyoded Draconis little speech :) Imo, he did a good job with those few lines he had. Much better than his father and Sendai. And I quite liked Yaga-Shura voice acting, it really sounded like clumsy giant :D
And it just a little unfair to compare those poor guys to Irenicus. First, he had more lines(much more), and second, he's the one only, Shattered one :)
Ironhawk Skylord Fri, 13th Oct '06, 10:59pm I enjoyed Yaga-Shura and Draconis too and agree that Abazigal and Sendai sucked.
But it was a nice surprise with Spectator showing up in Sendais lair. He is pretty cool.
Drow Captain: Your slaughter filled progress has greatly alarmed my Mistress. If I defeat you my reward will be truly worthwhile.
Spectator: Oh, Captain, my Captain!
Drow Captain: Eh? Why do you address me as such, beholder? You have a most peculiar attitude... I shall have to report it to the mistress soon.
Spectator: Oh, never mind that. I always wanted to say that, and there you go getting all upset. I just had a comment, here, before this Bhaalspawn squashes you into so much mush.
Drow Captain: Hmph. That may not necessarily happen.
Spectator: Uh...yes. Anyhow, on the off chance that you *do* manage to kill the Bhaalspawn, won't Sendai just go to the Matron Mothers and take all the credit for her greedy little self?
Drow Captain: You...speak the truth, my mono-ocular friend. I would rather claim the credit for such a deed myself. Have you a suggestion?
Spectator: I'm just thinking it would be *so* much better if you fought (Protagonist) in single combat. Then you could claim to have killed him all by yourself. Even the matrons couldn't refute that. Parades, gold, a new torture rack, it'd all be yours.
Protagonist: So what are you going to do now?
Spectator: Oh, you know. Find the nearest hive. Check out the ladies. The usual. You?
Protagonist: Fighting for my life. The usual.
Then again the person who voiced Lilacor usually cracks me up too :D
Dragon's Jewel Fri, 13th Oct '06, 11:02pm Melissan is kind of annoying, but Amelissan (after she reveals herself)(I must be tired, because I just read that over and can't stop giggling) is truly creepy. As was already mentioned, her "You shall suffah!" is quite scary.
Silverstar Sat, 14th Oct '06, 1:13pm Spectator is cool, aye, but in my current game I had to kill him as my PC did not have enough WIS. :p I wonder what he would have to say in Sendai's enclave or if he would even be there. (do not spoil the fun for me!)
Yaga Shura and Gromnir are good. They really sound like dumb brutes. :)
Illisera is nice enough too, the way she talks, it is ovious that she is a very confident and harsh and cruel woman.
Sarevok's lines are masterfully voiced, don't you agree? (better than some SoA NPCs!) I can not help but grin from ear to ear when I hear his maniacal laughter! He still laughs like that even when he is redeemed into CG. Oh well, some things never change. :shake:
Oh Dragon's Jewel, I do not like human Melissan's voice very much, it is obvious she is a lier and planning something in her voice. Just listen to her first reaction when PC party emerges in Saradush for the first time.
'Another Bhaalspawn? Not possible...unless..' that unless is far too suspiciously voiced. Check it!
Then the dialogue when she first shows her true face when summoned by Solar in Pocket Plane:that one is creepy too.
But nothing beats 'You shal SUFFAH!' or 'Doom awaits thee!' I do not know, maybe it is due to me having big bad and scary Ascension fight, but she really creeps me out! Congratulations! :p
Ironhawk Skylord Sat, 14th Oct '06, 6:34pm @Silverstar:
Sarevok rocks in any BG game! :)
By the way, you donīt have to talk to Spectator in Sahuagin City with your PC. You can use one of your NPC's if their wisdom is high enough....
Dragon's Jewel Sat, 14th Oct '06, 8:34pm Speaking of Sarevok in ToB: One line always amuses me to no end, especially keeping in mind that I always play as a woman. It's when he suddenly announces (In what sounds like a low, quasi-seductive voice, mind you) "What if we returned to Baldur's Gate, together? What would people say, do you think?" I always reply to the screen, "I'm pretty sure they'd be a little creeped out by that, considering that you're my brother. Thanks, though."
His voice acting for ToB is amazing, though, and my very favourite line is right at the beginning, when he says in this eeeeeeevilly pleased voice "The Sword Coast will run red with blood, yeesssss" and then continues talking in a completely normal voice. I love it!
Proteus_za Sun, 15th Oct '06, 1:27am Sarevok and Irenicus are two of my favourite video game villains, especially irenicus.
Irenicus just seems nigh unstoppable and sure of it, and seems to always be one step ahead until the end.
Drathir Darthirii Mon, 16th Oct '06, 6:05pm Sendai's voice acting is crap. She sounds kinda strained almost, when speaking. And hollow. Still, she is a drow so she's bound to be a crap actress because drow do not like acting. :p
Silvershield Mon, 16th Oct '06, 6:21pm  Drathir has it right :D
Btw, Sarevok ALWAYS had the best voice ... always!
