View Full Version : Finished it kevlar0101 Tue, 26th Jun '01, 11:01pm Ive finished it now and really have no desire to play baldurs gate games again. You get so powerfull, everything starts boring you. Extremist Tue, 26th Jun '01, 11:06pm Pal, what boredorm was I talking about all this months? And you never believed me... ;) :D Anyway, Congrats! Earl Grey Wed, 27th Jun '01, 5:39am I don't have ToB yet, but have anticipated running into the "too powerful" dilemma. The job of balancing ToB must have been extremely difficult. BG2 could have been equally difficult if they had not stooped to the (crappy) old trick of capturing and stripping the characters first. The game must not be too difficult except for a very small minority of players. At lower levels the balancing act is easier. Once you start introducing increasingly powerful abilities and items you risk getting an unbalanced (broken) game. Examples from BG is multiple Summon Monster spells (from Wands). From BG2 a couple of examples are the Shield of Balduran and the Magic Resistance of high level Monks. Any game trying to do what ToB does (build on BG2) will be an exercise in hoarding stuff and gawking at the abilities that comes with them. The Question is: How far from Diablo is it? kevlar0101 Wed, 27th Jun '01, 11:37am wel........... you get 11000 exp to whack a dwarf with a +2 hammer, merchants are shaking +3 weapons out of their pants like its nothing. antoine Wed, 27th Jun '01, 4:23pm you finished it already? In my country it isn't even in the stores yet. And what is wrong with getting 11000 exp from killing a dwarf, if he is strong and things like that or have the creators just put in extra exp so you can get to the 8 million? Bateluer Wed, 27th Jun '01, 4:37pm That dwarf was not your common dwarf, he was likely of a much higher level. It make be just be, but I have had easy fights as well as incredibly difficult fights. The first time I entered Watcher's Keep, I got my butt kicked and had to flee from the structure. Headbanger Wed, 27th Jun '01, 5:16pm Why not start again with BG1 or IWD, then you're no longer that powerful. Anyway it can be indeed annoying to be too good. jack-of-all-trades Wed, 27th Jun '01, 9:49pm All of the dwarves that i have found so far have been durgar sappers(sp)(or something similar) like the ones in the underdark in SoA. They don't shoot normal bolts i don't think. Herr'Don Wed, 27th Jun '01, 9:56pm I agree "slightly" with what you're saying, but have a few thoughts on the matter... Firstly, although I'm trying not to spoil the game too much for myself, I have noticed that the increased ammount of puzzles in ToB are alot more challenging than previous ones, so therefore no matter how high a level you are the puzzles can still trick you out. Secondly, in any series of games you gain more exp from the one before, and therefore it would be absolutely stupid to have you starting off with lvl one and 10HP after playing BG1. And according to D&D rules (although I'm not familiar to them) you can gain really any level, and must make the challenge yourself. Another thing is what about new monsters, with tough abilites, etc to make things harder. I thought Solar's where meant to be tough, and I though you fight them in ToB? And what about Demogorgan. And kevlar, if you've finished ToB already then you must have raced through it without even stopping to notice the scenery (lol). I find it very hard to believe that you are the "average" player of BG games, as ToB was only released lately and you've finished it? Forgive me for saying, but I think you weren't too bothered about ToB to begin with that you just rushed through it to get it over with. Herr'Don - Always in defence of Black Isle. PS. When I played the demo of IWD that comes with BGII, I had a full party and went after the few goblins at the beginning of the game, getting most of my people killed, so I think that ToB is still fairly balanced. kevlar0101 Thu, 28th Jun '01, 9:11pm I played it slowly, took me a 4 days you know. Did every single quest, got every single weapon, killed everything thats killable. btw demogorgon was a bit though yeah, the first time I fought him ive casted time stop with my mage, believe me, it hurtz. The guy just kept bangin my frozen party members :D edit: believe me, I was bothered with ToB, kinda devoured it :D ;) [This message has been edited by kevlar0101 (edited June 28, 2001).] Big B Fri, 29th Jun '01, 4:27pm To make things interesting and a bit harder, why don't you play through BG1 and export into BG2 and ToB with just you and Imoen the whole time. That ought to be interesting. Just a suggestion. In fact, I might try that one sometime. Septic Yogurt Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 11:50pm 4 days = 96 hours. wow, if 96 hours is rushing, you must play slowly. cotman68 Wed, 4th Jul '01, 5:37pm Yeah...I know what you mean Kevlar.. I finished the game 3 hours after I got it.. and I was drunk and hadn't even finished installing the CD. I is a bad-ass just likes you's kevlar0101 Thu, 5th Jul '01, 8:04pm happy to hear that ;) |
