Has anyone played through BG1 and BG2 solo or using a party as a Monk? Talk about power gaming come ToB with a Monk with super stats.

Yeah, but believe me when I say that your Monk'll have great difficulties beating BG1 solo ;)
It might be fun though

EDIT: If you do however, choose to solo tutu with a monk (imho a bold decision :p ), then I would at least recommend you get the tutu tweak from G3, so you can get the mod that allows you to use many magical item simultaniously (e.g. rings of protect, amuls of protect, cloak of protect.)... You'll need qall the help you can get with your AC.

I would never even consider taking a Monk through BG1 solo. The very thought of it makes me shudder. One attack per round to start, average/poor THAC0, horrid AC, standard speed, horrid stealth, priest HPs, no MR.

Note however that on the opposite end of the scale, shapeshifters are quite unbalanced in Tutu (at least to start), I made a self-made fix with a few custom itm's and cre's (which also remedy some inherent problems, but keep in touch with the original wild creature more, unlike in Ease of Use), which extends to ToB making the Greater Werewolf more powerful over several levels as well. It may be a bit of overkill though, I'll have to revise it later :p

Not worth the pain IMNSHO...

At lvl 40...monks are barely passable warriors compared to vanilla fighters.

At lvl 1... :p

A shapeshifter actually shouldn't be able to gain their shapeshifting ability till level 7. I remember playing a shapeshifter in 2e rules and you don't gain the ability till level 7.

I never tried monk in BGTutu, I imagine it would be hard, but I did try Totemic Druid and they were way too powerful, even though I think they are one of the weaker classes in BGII, in BGI the animals are a great help.

tutu fixpack fixes a lot of the problems with totemic druids, so that their summons ain't so greasily overpowered.

Some kits are way over powered in BG1. I believe this is because the game doesn't realize that certain abilities are only achieved at certain levels. For instance a Druid who has the shapeshifter kit can't change form till level 7 in 2e rules yet they gain that ability level one in BG if you use Tutu. While other character classes are appropriate in their ability in BG1 with the Tutu mod, such as a Monk. Yeah they are weak now but as they grow in skill they become quite a powerful force. Of course that would be the case if weapons of mass destruction didn't exist in BG2.

I've made an (unreleased currently) Monk NPC for Tutu, and he doesn't seem to die any more frequently than other characters. I think the key is using their faster speed to get them away from trouble, if they need it - and remember, they can quite happily use a sling or something instead of engaging in melee if the situation calls for it.

Barely passable warriors! My last monk killed creatures left and right no problem and was extremely hard to kill! His AC was amazing and he was immune to many attacks. He did so much better than other warriors in a straight up melee that the only warriors that really added anything were Keldern for dispels and Sarevok for Death Bringer.

Please don't.

Actaully I have a really sweet Blade and so I agree Faraaz that Blades are awesome as well. As I see it my post is only defending my position on Monks and had nothing to do with other warrior types. Archers, any Palidan kit, Kensai, Barbs, and Berserkers are favorite types of mine as well (I make a lot of characters) and they have all done well. I was just saddened to hear someone say they thought that Monks are weak which I disagree with and I think Blades also fit under the misunderstood warrior section of classes with the Monk.

@Yoshimo's Heart: Fair enough...but I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree, aye?

I've had bad experiences with monks in the past, and I've never really understood what the hype was about...though I've tried. REALLY tried. Yeah, they get decent bonuses and everything...but its nothing Viconia or Aerie couldn't whip up for you in a jiffy...and the disadvantages are way too serious to actually make me a fan of that class.

Ah well...Blades ARE sweet but...as of now, they're my favourite, closely followed by FMC's.
