View Full Version : Nalia's Spells In ToB?
Herr'Don Mon, 25th Jun '01, 4:16pm If you look at the Ability Charts in SoA book, you can see that only with 18 Intelligence can you cast 9th level spells, and you couldn't cast them anyway with SoA's exp cap, but with ToB's increased exp cap you will be able to cast level 9 spells, but my best mage is Nalia and she only has 17th Intelligence, limiting her to lvl 8 spells.
Is this so, or did I take it up wrong, and if so, is there any items that increase Intelligence in ToB or SoA?
If you don't fully understand what I'm talking about then please say so, and I will elaborate,
Thanks in advance,
Herr'Don
cotman68 Mon, 25th Jun '01, 4:32pm I have the same problem--in fact, any group without a PC who is a mage (and without Edwin) has this problem. I think it is a MAJOR flaw with the NPC's in this game because it favors 1. evil parties and 2. good/neutral parties with PC mages.
Balmung Mon, 25th Jun '01, 5:10pm For some unexplained reason she can now cast Level 9 spells in ToB. As to raising her intelligance in ToB. Hmmm, no comment ;)
IronEagle Mon, 25th Jun '01, 5:13pm well dont feel to bad, just look at the special abilities a bit closer
Wildfire Mon, 25th Jun '01, 5:48pm According to Syl's item list, the Golden Ioun stone will raise its user's intelligence by one whilst wearing it. Although I have no idea where to find it.
Balmung Mon, 25th Jun '01, 7:53pm Isn't that just a temporary increase? I don't think that allows you to cast extra spells (sorta like drinking the potions of intelligence), but maybe I'm wrong. I was implying something else a la BG1 in my earlier message.
Pyrion Mon, 25th Jun '01, 9:43pm Yes, it's a temporary increase, but it stays as long as the person chooses to continue wearing the Ioun stone, unlike a potion, which lasts for a specific amount of turns before dissipating.
SPOILER
You can also go into Watcher's Keep, and when you get to the Machine of Lum the Mad, I'm not sure if you have to select Nalia alone to do this, but if you've collected Lum's scrolls all throughout the previous levels, operate the machine and her stats will increment by one on each as well as gaining a whole lot of magical resistance, which apparently is permenant (according to the game).
Wildfire Mon, 25th Jun '01, 10:39pm Can't you also get an increse using the deck of many things?
Pyrion Mon, 25th Jun '01, 11:02pm Possibly, but all I ended up with was a curse on my Intelligence and Strength scores and let the Demon go ahead of me (though he was honorable enough to leave the sceptre to let me pass) after wagering the way out.
Balmung Tue, 26th Jun '01, 12:56am Of course you could have just killed the gambler and taken his cards and played for yourself...
Pyrion Tue, 26th Jun '01, 3:10am That was definitely possible, but I was playing as a solo mage so if I could avoid a fight, I would. ;)
Herr'Don Tue, 26th Jun '01, 5:52pm Ok, thanks for the info guys, so I'll just have to wait 'til 13 July to get the game (I like to plan ahead!!!)
Wildfire, you mentioned something about Syl's item list? Is that in ToB manual or what? If it's on the net, can you tell me where? Thanks,
Herr'Don
Thanks Wildfire, :)

Wildfire Tue, 26th Jun '01, 8:11pm Sylvus Moonbow's item list can be found here: http://www.skullport.com/games/bg2/tobitems.shtml
Unfortunately it does not contain locations of the items.
