View Full Version : 50th Solo...whom do I make?
Faraaz Sat, 27th Nov '04, 8:10pm Well...I'm finally here...my 50th solo game through Baldurs Gate 2! :D
Of course, its not through both SoA AND ToB, but I'd like to think of it as my 50th attempt. :p
Who do I take? Someone fun I think...
Geoff Sat, 27th Nov '04, 8:30pm Is this actually your 50th time through? If so, haven't you played as every class and multiclass already?
Anyways, Wizard Slayer // Thief at lvl 13.
Kitrax Sat, 27th Nov '04, 8:47pm 50th time?!?!? You've got to be kidding me! By this time you should have played every class and every kit!
But since you want to have some fun, I'd suggest you solo as a Monk. :thumb: :rolling:
Truper Sat, 27th Nov '04, 8:55pm A female Grandchild Spoiler dualed to Bingo Player at level 9. She should wield the Rolling Pin +2 (+3 vs Troll Cooks), and Wear the Armor of Old Lace +4 (Immunity to Temper Tantrums). Maybe *that* will provide a challenge.
;)
Kam Sat, 27th Nov '04, 9:11pm Solo a naked mage.
Melee only. :D
If that's not enough challenge for you, I don't know what would be.
Faraaz Sat, 27th Nov '04, 9:13pm Hmm...not really every class and kit. I can't stand the Beastmaster! :p
I've played pretty much most of them, but for instance, atleast 4-5 of those have been just Sorcerers...another few Assassins, Kensais etc.
Wizardslayer/Thief?? Its just melee isnt it? Does it get boring or is it fun??
Geoff Sun, 28th Nov '04, 12:01am I'd say it's pretty fun. Playing a straight fighter would be boring (and I'm sure you have, so what are you complaining about :p ) but the thief aspect of this character gives it a nice flare. Taking down mages with this guy is excitingly easy.
If you've played through as an Assassin a few times, you shouldn't find the Wizard Slayer // Thief boring.
Harkle Sun, 28th Nov '04, 10:38am Hmm... what about Wizard slayer dualled to Mage? Isn't that possible? :p
Drugar Sun, 28th Nov '04, 1:20pm OMG, 50 times?
Respect!
Geoff Sun, 28th Nov '04, 1:39pm Hmm... what about Wizard slayer dualled to Mage? Isn't that possible?I believe it is possible. But you wouldn't be able to don a good portion of mage essential items.
With the thief, you get UAI :D
But it is a possibility. I think the WS//T is better, but, given that he's done this thing 50 times, "better" probably means "worse" and "less fun" by now.
Macready Sun, 28th Nov '04, 3:15pm Hello -
Pacifist Jester. You are averse to killing, so see how many enemies you can cause to kill themselves. Between your innate song and mage spells and wands that support the theme (chaos, confusion, various charms, monster summoning, etc.) that might be a fun theme, at least through the SoA portion of the game.
Can bards sing while invisible and not lose invisibility? I'd thought about doing this myself if singing doesn't ruin invisibility.
Splunge Sun, 28th Nov '04, 4:25pm 50?!? :jawdrop: Well, if you haven't done a Blade yet, then you should definitely do so.
@Macready - now that sounds interesting. I don't know how long it would be effective, but it would be worth a shot. Could get boring after awhile, though. Plus there would be a number of enemies that wouldn't be affected, so you'd need some other means of dealing with them. I don't know if bards can sing while invisible, but I do know they can cast mislead and have the clone sing.
Carpetsmoker Sun, 28th Nov '04, 6:07pm just 47 attempt for me left then.....
50 is alot, and you still aint bored?
Harbourboy Sun, 28th Nov '04, 7:52pm It's got to be a Jester. Make him your favourite comedian. I might play a Jester next time I play (if there is a next time).
Faraaz Sun, 28th Nov '04, 8:43pm Well...I considered a Jester, but the times I've played with him, the song rarely if ever kicks in, and the enemies very rarely attack each other. They either attack the other party members anyway or just stand around. :grr:
Heh...the Wizardslayer/Mage appeals a lot to me...
Grandmastery in Long Bows, dualled at lvl 13, Melf's Minute Meteor induced Spell Casting Failures... :D
THAT sounds like fun.
Geoff Sun, 28th Nov '04, 9:11pm You don't need Melf's Minute Meteor's to get the spell casting failures. Even if they are immune to normal missles, and you fire a normal missle at them, it will add 10% spell failure. (or so they say. delighted as I am by that idea, I haven't tested it out myself yet :/ )
Blog Sun, 28th Nov '04, 9:19pm 50th time and you want something fun eh? How about suicidal?
Maybe try a reversed dual class, like mage to fighter or something.
Scythe Mon, 29th Nov '04, 3:27pm I've just posted this on the SOA board but I'm going to try a pacifist cleric. I.e. truely LG with a moral objections to killing.
My objective is to see what the lowest kill total I can to actually finish the game.
My guess is only about 20 for SOA.
Though whether the lack of exp (even soloing) willl make it possible is another matter.
I'm still going to kill(?) undead creatures as I reckon that would be part of the ethos. If it is too hard I may stretch my "killing things" to mindless creatures... golems... and if still too difficult then demons and other beings of pure evil. (Def not just your avg bady!)
Any thoughts?
I've not decided about summons... maybe I'll summon them but never cotrol them to attack... haven't decided that yet.
Macready Mon, 29th Nov '04, 3:40pm @Splunge:
Hello again. :)
Maybe I'll try the pacifist Jester myself some day, but (as I suspect is the case for a lot of us) I tend to have more character ideas than I do time to play them. Also I am a chronic restarter, although I am trying to break that habit.
I am back on my "hardcore" crusade...this time a sorcerer, starting with BGI Tutu and going right through ToB (less TotSC), if all goes well. So far I am deep in chapter five of BGI, and no deaths so far (one very close call though).
T2Bruno Mon, 29th Nov '04, 7:23pm @Faraaz: You don't get out much, do you? :(
A swashbuckler/cleric sounds interesting....
Faraaz Mon, 29th Nov '04, 7:54pm Meh...I got bored of the Wizardslayer before he could even hit lvl 13.
I don't think a melee class can hold enough interest for me... :(
Any other recommendations?
Dendri Mon, 29th Nov '04, 8:13pm Can bards sing while invisible and not lose invisibility? I'd thought about doing this myself if singing doesn't ruin invisibility. They remain invisible while singing.
Due to the mods I have installed many fights have become extremely challenging - like storming the Shadow Thieves stronghold and killing Aran Linvail. Without some of those mods the Jester's song was little more than luxury. Now it has become too valuable not to use as often as possible. I send my invisible Jester in to soften the enemies up and draw attention from my tanks. Quite useful. He could also finish some encounters by singing alone given time... but what a waist of xp that would be.
@ Faraaz
Being restricted to melee would bore me silly real quick, too. Same for pure magical fighting. I enjoy Avengers a lot but at some point the constant spellcasting loses its appeal. Thats why I like bards so much. The multitude of their abilities carries me through to the end of ToB.
But perhaps you just need a little time without playing BG2? ;) At least that helps me to enjoy the game again.
Faraaz Mon, 29th Nov '04, 11:51pm @Dendri: I've been playing it on and off for ages now...and after I crossed the 20 mark, I've just been keeping track of stuff, is all... :D
Well...I've just started another character, solo multiclassed Mage/Cleric...I know its very powerful...but they get to be great fun as well... :D
Hope that goes well...also, an important question...
What level do Fighters with Grandmastery in a weapon need to have to get 5 attacks?
Geoff Tue, 30th Nov '04, 12:44am I think it's level 13, though not certain.
And when you say 5 attacks, I assume you mean 4 attacks with main hand (3 normally + 1 from offhand item of Belm or Kundane) + 1 from offhand.
