View Full Version : Sarevok is gonna kick ass
antoine Wed, 6th Jun '01, 2:50pm With Sarevok as a NPC it is chanching my whole few on evil party's. OK, Edwin maybe the best mage in the game and Korgan one of the best tanks but besides that there wasn't really any proper evil party material. I'm actually thinking of playing next time with an evil party (never done that before!!!) and all because of Sarevok. Just looking at his stats makes you wishing he was good. (For those of you who haven't seen his stats: Str: 18/00
Dex: 17
Con: 18
Int: 15
Wis: 10
Cha: 15)
So are there more of ye who gonna play evil next time with Sarevok in your party??
I only hope you can take Sarevok with you in Chapter 2 just like all the other NPC's
TIN_MAN Wed, 6th Jun '01, 3:36pm MAN!
Sarevok really kicks some serious butt. I'm gonna buy ToB just because this guy!
He's dangerous!!!
Extremist Wed, 6th Jun '01, 5:01pm If I ever get ToB I'm asuring you that I'm not letting that egoistic prick in my party no matter his stats!
I'm about to play my role, not powergaming.
Da Punisher Wed, 6th Jun '01, 6:42pm Haha, go play with your barbie-dolls then, Extremist!
Ragusa Wed, 6th Jun '01, 7:12pm Sarevok does indeed look robust, no doubt. And some of his bhallspawn-only special abilities will be *very* powerful. Iīd bet heīll be proficient in two-handed swords. However, I have an emotional sentiment aginst this guy.
Itīs just like with yoshimo - traps or not heīs a traitor - and for me Sarevok remains to be an evil bastard slaying thousands for fun. And after beeing stopped in his ambitions once by my char, I can hardly imagine him volunteering to follow me and he wouldnīt change for me either.
The only interesting thing about Sarevok is that heīll probably have cool sounds and conversations.
Extremist Wed, 6th Jun '01, 7:29pm Da punisher, that's the most brilliant idea I've heard in last two months!
Only, will you please give them back to me? Last time you almost killed me when I tried to get them. :p
Mathetais Wed, 6th Jun '01, 7:43pm I missed out on BG1, so I don't really have an emotional bias toward Saervok.
However, I'm guessing they are going to develop a beautiful and compelling script that explains why he would be joinging the party. From a sheer roll-playing perspective, I think they will make it very hard to pass him up.
Avooch Dar Wed, 6th Jun '01, 7:44pm Stats Stats!!!!
Those are rubbish stats my fighters for a start would nearly always have 19 strength 18 dexterity and 19 constitution. (race is not the issue)
Anyway my Paladin has
str:19
Dex:19
Cons:13
Int:13
Wis:21
cha:19
Sarevock is just another let down. I would not bother with him in my party and your main characters must be REALLY crap whatever class they are if you think he is good!! :( :(
Jack Funk Wed, 6th Jun '01, 9:15pm I'm looking forward to seeing him again.
But he won't be joining my party, he'll be getting his ass kicked.
Dudette Wed, 6th Jun '01, 9:54pm Avooch how did you do that? do u cheat?
Nobleman Wed, 6th Jun '01, 10:00pm Allow me to defend Your Mighty paladin Sir Dargorn:
he just read all the Tomes in BG1. One of the bonusses to import a Bg1 PC.
Extremist Wed, 6th Jun '01, 10:44pm Nobleman, that's one nice BI customer support. If you wanna get boost, buy all their games.
Thank god I bought BG1 before, but what about others who didn't? This is forcing people to do something, don't you think? I hate 'em.
Earl Grey Wed, 6th Jun '01, 11:20pm No those stats can be valid. I have a Druid started in BG which rolled up 98 points and after reading all 8(!) tomes he had 106 points going into BG2.
Sarevok's stats total 93 then. That's the best of all NPC's and it should be compared to NPC's and not the protagonist. The protagonist can have better stats, especially if he's been through BG/TotSC, but Sarevok is not the protagonist.
I think it's nice that evil parties get another NPC.
Antoine!
Don't forget Viconia, arguably the best cleric in BG2.
[This message has been edited by Earl Grey (edited June 06, 2001).]
TIN_MAN Thu, 7th Jun '01, 10:25am How about Sarevok's alignment aye?
a.) Lawful evil?
b.) Neutral evil?
c.) Chaotic evil - I surely would vote for "c"
[This message has been edited by TIN_MAN (edited June 07, 2001).]
Ragusa Thu, 7th Jun '01, 11:06am I agree, stats like Avoochīs indeed can be valid. IIRC my best roll ever was about basic 99 in BG-1. Consuming the tomes it was raised by another 6 points to 105 (I didnīt want to increase strength :D ).
Yesterday I looked over my old chars from BG-1 and found my old pal Brogomil (halfling thief):
str-18-0 (originally: 17)
dex-20 (originally: 19) => for the thieving abilities
con-16 (originally: 15)
int: 14 (originally: 13) => lore and pride :D
wis: 18 (originally: 16) => good st vs. spells and lore
char: 10 (originally: 9)
totalling basic 89 and final 96 points.
No stat point wasted :) , so, if there is something to critisize about Avochīs char it is that conīs too low, wis too high (no more saving throw boni beyond 18 and no extra spells) but these are just my thoughts :D :p
[This message has been edited by Ragusa (edited June 07, 2001).]
antoine Thu, 7th Jun '01, 3:38pm To TIN_MAN: he is indeed chaotic evil
To Earl Grey: Anomen is the best cleric and not Viconia and you calculated him at 93? Either you must be miss calculating or I made a mistake because it is 95.
WOOPS, I made a mistake with his INT or WIS I guess one of those two should be two points higher but I can remember which one :(
To Avooch: My main character aren't crap, he just amazes me because he is the best NPC
[This message has been edited by antoine (edited June 07, 2001).]
Nobleman Thu, 7th Jun '01, 3:47pm You are right E! In Your usaul preculiar way. Buy all our games and be stronge. hehe ;) I bet You a buck that many uses this as an excuse to raise their stats with SK though. Are you gonna cry now? :p
[This message has been edited by Nobleman (edited June 07, 2001).]
Extremist Thu, 7th Jun '01, 4:50pm Me? Cry? No. :p
I'm right now trying something, and if that gets to work that will end SK career permanently. ;)
antoine Fri, 8th Jun '01, 2:28pm OK i looked it up and these are Sarevok's actual stats (for those interested):
STR 18/00
DEX 17
CON 18
INT 17 (whatever that may be good for with a fighter??)
WIS 10
CHA 15
TOTAL 95
[This message has been edited by antoine (edited June 08, 2001).]
Da Punisher Fri, 8th Jun '01, 7:06pm Intelligence is very important for a fighter, you amateur! ;)
You can use protection scrolls if you have high intelligence and you can beat those nasty illithid and ulitharids with high intelligence. And ofcourse you know a couple of languages, so you can order dinner in every restaurant, even when it isn't in Amn! ;)
Lothar Fri, 8th Jun '01, 7:14pm Does anyone know what race Sarevok is? He looked to be human in BG1, but I couldn't tell for sure. Does anyone know?
Extremist Fri, 8th Jun '01, 7:48pm Since Sarevok is dead, I presume he'll be just a shadow in his armor, refusing to find his final rest. That gives him no need of determined race.
Just like mad Vhailor.
:p
[This message has been edited by Extremist (edited June 08, 2001).]
Nobleman Sat, 9th Jun '01, 2:16pm Bioware thinks he is human http://www.peliplaneetta.net/artikkelit/66/
But they are as clumsy as they are stupid. :p
Extremist Sat, 9th Jun '01, 3:35pm Hmmmm... I see they mention Abyssal Plane (!?) however I can't understand any of other words...
Is there anyone to translate that info on Sarevok from the page Nobleman posted a link to?
antoine Sat, 9th Jun '01, 4:11pm I think the words aren't that important, it just a story of ToB (I think). The only good thing on thise site is the cool picture of Sarevok
Wildfire Sun, 10th Jun '01, 4:27pm Think of the dual-classing oportunities - Fighter/theif or fighter/mage. I'm almost tempted to go onto the dark side. A level 18 fighter ready to be dual classed... No...must....resist....temptation. :D
Nobleman Sun, 10th Jun '01, 6:07pm I don't know any finnish either E! but on his picture he is Chaotic evil human. :p
his dual-class icon is active too.
But If You have 20 hours and a finnish Dictionary I guess You can translate it.
Extremist Sun, 10th Jun '01, 7:32pm Nobleman, ROTFL!
Guys, anyone from Finland here? HEEEEEELP!
Nobleman Mon, 11th Jun '01, 5:36am Actually That internet page has been bugging me ever since I ehrm.. read it. Now I can't take it anymore. What does it GOD DAMN say ... sorry for my blasphemic behavior.
Now look You got me all grumpy looiking in my Icon E. :p
Havok Mon, 11th Jun '01, 6:17am That Rat B*****d Sarevok in my party? Well maybe... he is my brother (family counts for a lot these days) and even though he did try to skewer my butt, I might feel generous enough to make him my toadie.
That should be an interesting family reunion...Me, Imoen, and Sarevok having a meaningful(?), civilized(?) discussion with Dear Old Dad.
DragonSlayer21 Mon, 11th Jun '01, 5:02pm I heard that you can get Elminister as an NPC, just a rumour maybe...
It would be the coolest if it was true though
Nobleman Mon, 11th Jun '01, 5:57pm I've heard it too just recently Somewhere on sorcerer's place. I'll post a link:
http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000038.html
:p :p :p
antoine Mon, 11th Jun '01, 6:28pm I tried that link from Nobleman and it links to this topic.
And we definitely need more Finnish here so if there are any Finnish please translate it for us none Finnish people!!!
[This message has been edited by antoine (edited June 11, 2001).]
Mathetais Mon, 11th Jun '01, 6:36pm I think Nobleman was just being sarcastic by linking this thread to this thread :p
From other posts, Elminster cannot be an NPC. He's a little off-balance power-wise, plus he wouldn't be all that interested in hanging with the PC. (Better things to do and all that . . .)
http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000014.html
This is an older thread, but the E-man is brought up there also. From the news & notes herein, BIG E is out. Sorry.
Volar Blackmane Mon, 11th Jun '01, 8:10pm The information there seems kinda spoilish...
-Lord Volar the linguist :p
Avooch Dar Mon, 11th Jun '01, 9:27pm Going back a bit i would like to point out hat i only realised about the wisdom thng later on. i am thinkng about starting again actually in the search for the perfect paladin.
ps: i still say Sarevock is crap.
pps:Come on bioware you can do better than this!
DragonSlayer21 Mon, 11th Jun '01, 9:50pm What's with the sarcastic ****, I don't get it. Not one word about Elminister here on this topic. I just didn't bother to open a whole new topic for that little question. Geees.....
Blackthorne TA Mon, 11th Jun '01, 10:08pm I don't think Nobleman meant anything by it DragonSlayer21; it's just a joke. One I happen to use myself when I hear people say "I heard such and such" :)
Nobleman Mon, 11th Jun '01, 11:18pm Away Put Your weapons I mean You no harm Quote Yoda.
It was a friendly loving tease, dragonslayer. I smile everytime I see someone say "look what I heard" Without telling anything of the source of the rumours.
Sorry If You felt upset, had I known this I would have done it again. hehe :p
DragonSlayer21 Tue, 12th Jun '01, 12:14pm Forget about it. Had kind of a bad day yesterday, lost my drivers licence and sat 12 hours in a cell sunday night. So I guess you can say I was not my usual self ;)
kevlar0101 Tue, 12th Jun '01, 8:01pm tss, cavaliers..............
cotman68 Mon, 18th Jun '01, 4:46am I completely disagree with the original post:
Evil characters RULE in this game in terms of raw material.
Best raw fighter: Korgan, EVIL
best cleric: viconia. EVIL
best mage: edwin, EVIL
best thief: jan (I know.. chaotic NEUTRAL.. but still the best and NOT good like Imoen or Nalia)
any good party must make due with rangers and likely settle on a neutral character like the druids for more cleric support.
I do agree that the best weapon in the game is only for Paladins--the holy avenger.. but the C-fury is a close second and can be used by any alignment......
antoine Mon, 18th Jun '01, 3:09pm Well if you compare your evil party with tank with my tank (Minsc) and your mage with my mage (Imoen) I think there kinda equally matched and about the thief thing: Jan may be the best thief in the game but I think he is still crap. And any good party has it's neutral characters.
With the best weapon's you probably forgot the mention Crom, which I think as the best weapon in the game (together with Celes Fury)
cotman68 Mon, 18th Jun '01, 4:26pm Actually, I played a good party with :
me, kensai, neutral good half-elf
minsc
valgar
jaheria
imoen
and aerie
I used jan for awhile.. and yoshimo
I think that the good NPC personalities are excellent.. it is just that the raw stats of the evil NPC's are better overall
btw-- I agree about crom--but I don't think as a primary weapon it moves up into the top 2---that stun ability on the c-fury is just awesome. I used crom with valgar--who used it in his off hand and the c-fury in his primary hand.
Mikka Mon, 18th Jun '01, 5:05pm Sarevey's gunna rule.
He has the best stats of any NPC, period.
And *WHY* would someone play a fighter as their main character? There's Korgan, now Sarevok, and Valygar, Minsc and Keldorn can hold their own as well. Wouldn't you play your main character as a mage, cleric, or THIEF consitering there's so few in the game? Or a paladin, for the stupid sword? I can't understand it... -__- Ah, well, everyone to the class they like..
But the reason I'd let him join isn't for stats, it's because my character is a total goodgirl who always wants to forgive and love everyone while remaining chaotic. =/ Heh.
Julius Skull Fri, 21st Sep '01, 8:39am I've decided to resurrect this old topic because i've just started playing tob and discovered that i could recruit that prick Sarevok. A fair deal in the end, i think. I had to dump korgan so now i've got me (a skald) minsc, valygar, aerie, nalia, and sarevok. I like this guy's stats. But the real reason i went for him is... we're BROTHERS man!!! Blood is thicker than water and is even thicker than that little dwarf's skull. As such Sarevok is in. Plus, he's got part of my goddamned soul now, so i kind of owe it to myself to keep an eye on the psychotic bastard. My solution was simple. I didn't like the fact that i had a 150 hp fighter with crazy ass stats running around in my party, so because of his high intelligence, i'm grooming him to be a mage. He's on level two now.. dual class mage fighter. Once he hits level 18 m.u. watch out baby, this guy is going put the boots to any npc living or dead. My deepest disappointment about the game so far though is that Aerie still says she's faster than Chitiqua Southpaw. It's only a matter of time before she gets chunked anyway.
Erran Fri, 21st Sep '01, 4:11pm Trust me, Saverok's: "What if we were to return to Baldurs Gate together..." starts to grate after a while too.
His dialogues with Mazzy are pretty hilarious though. Nearly as funny as Imoen hitting on Keldorn "I like older men" LOL!
Namuras Fri, 21st Sep '01, 6:59pm Blood thicker than water? So why don't you have Imoen instead of Nalia?
This seems to be a good fighters-and-mages party, but don't you think that it's lacking a little in thievery? Or do you disarm traps with Nalia drinking potions? Dual-classing Sarevok to thief worked well for me... But then, if you don't trust him, you would probably do so even less if he could hide in shadows and backstab...:D
TGM Sun, 23rd Sep '01, 2:05pm Sarevok is great I must say. And about dual-classing him into a mage or a thief...well, I don't know. I've found him as Fighter the best. At the point he gets Whirlwind/G.Whirlwind, Critical hit, Hardiness, he will be a complete tank. If U turn him to another class, he won't get these bonuses at all, and these are really overwhelming. While using C.hit and G.Whirlwind he did 62, 75(!), 50, 48, 60 damage in one(!!!) motherf*cking round on those around him:) And I haven't yet mentioned his own abilities, like the innate Stunning Blow, and the Deathbringer Assault, which can devastate even the most powerful of enemies:) Really, an absolutely perfect choice, leave him as he is, he is a tru fighter.
[This message has been edited by TGM (edited September 23, 2001).]
Namuras Sun, 23rd Sep '01, 4:12pm Maybe you're right, TGM, it's just that I needed a thief (Watcher's Keep can be pretty tough without one). Backstab was also useful, he did 206 damage with Angurvdal once!:D
TGM Sun, 23rd Sep '01, 5:30pm Well, that's alright. I only said that he can be the best as a fighter. And, of course I haven't tried dualing him into a mage or thief, so there could be very good effects as well.
Big B Sun, 23rd Sep '01, 7:24pm Well you have to look at it from both angles for one there aren't that many NPC's that you can fool around and dual class with. On the other hand I think it's just a fine to keep Sarevok a fighter that's what I did. Also I did BG2 and ToB without a thief and it was not bad at all, but the area that gave me the most headaches was WK and even then it was minimal. The worst room for me in the entire game that had traps while I had to fight enemies was on the third floor of WK in the maze near the end with the cambion dude and his level-draining pals. That was the worst episode I had without having a thief.
Julius Skull Mon, 24th Sep '01, 8:15am You have a good point. I should probably find Imoen, I just never liked her rabid enthusiasm too much. But I wonder how many bhaalspawn i can pick up in this game. Have a whole gruesome party of bhaalspawned children. We'd need some serious peer counselling. Thieves? Don't need no stinking thieves. Finished soa with this party. Thieves eventually run out of uses or hitpoints in my parties. Actually the real reason is because i couldn't handle Yoshimo's treachoury, and I never liked the other thief characters too much. I use Nalia when i really need to, pump her full of magicstuff, rings, boots, cloaks armours, whatever i can find to boost her abilities... I just don't trust thieves, they steal things. Disarming traps is easy enough too. I send whatever I can summon into the trap. If that doesn't work, there's protection from magic when opening locks and stuff.... worked in spellhold when i had to get a portrait off the wall. lots of options. Sometimes I do miss backstab though.
TIN_MAN Mon, 24th Sep '01, 1:27pm I didn't know that Sarevok had a stunning blow ability! I saw his mighty deathbringer assault several times, but he never stunned anyone, yet. BTW, how does this ability work? He has some percent chance, or he does this when scoring a critical hit????:hmm:
[This message has been edited by TIN_MAN (edited September 24, 2001).]
TGM Tue, 25th Sep '01, 9:15pm At each hit Sarevok has 5% chance to make a Deathbringer Assault, normally scoring a massive 200 points of additional damage;
His stunning blow abilty works the same, but with higher chances: 10%/succesful hit - opponent must save vs. spell(?) or be stunned for 3 round.
However you can read about his special abilities in his Biography.
