View Full Version : First level 7 spell pick
Viking Thu, 31st Jan '02, 11:47am Solo sorcerer.
Do I take the limited wish to replenish lower level spells? 18 int + 18 wis, I'm having wish later.
Project image is also an option I would have thought. Should even be able to duplicate the quick slot scrolls that way I think? Protection from magic. Protection from undead. Zap, Zap, Zap! Undead should be less un pretty soon! Send 'em up against liches one by one....
Might have to try both the above for fun, but although limited wish is powerful for level 7, it may be better used for something else given that wish is on the horizon?
Finger of Death is a given pick, but I wasn't planning to take it first. The others will be more versatile.
Opinions?
Yogojunzo Thu, 31st Jan '02, 8:40pm I'd go for Mordenkainen's Sword as my first 7th level pick if I were a sorcerer. That sword has been an invaluable ally as it is immune to most attacks.
Lord Sarevok Thu, 31st Jan '02, 8:48pm That's a tuffy. I'd take finger of death...but that's just me. Is Power Word: Stun level 7? That's another good pick, lets you whipe the floor with mages. Anyone with 90 hitpoints or less is stunned for a good period of time and with a casting time of 1, you can hit them with it before then put any protections up. I killed the Cambion in the Astral prison with only 2 secret words then a Power Word: Stun. It's better for disabling mages than Powerword: Silence IMO, because they always have a damn vocalize up their sleeve. What are your spell picks so far? It would be easier to know what to choose if we knew what you already have.

Lord Sarevok Fri, 1st Feb '02, 1:00am Wow, you picked the exact same ones as Roman Gregoriev did in his FAQ, what a coincidence!
Totemic Druid Fri, 1st Feb '02, 4:32am How did you know?
Lord Sarevok Fri, 1st Feb '02, 5:32am Bow down before Roman Gregoriev for you are not worthy! Hehe, on a more serious note, he wrote a great Sorcerer FAQ, and I refer to it often, so that's how I knew.
TIN_MAN Fri, 1st Feb '02, 9:20am I agree with Yogojunzo.
Mordenkainen's sword is the perfect choice for a solo sorcerer for it can only be hurt by magic missile, finger of death and Abi Dalzim's horrid wilting. Its immunity to phisical attacks, fire, cold, acid and electricity makes the magical sword a valuable summon.
Viking Fri, 1st Feb '02, 10:31am I'll revisit it tonight. Previous picks are much the same as everyone elses would be since I did do some research before setting out....
However, the guide is not written for a solo character, so you have to compromise somewhat there.
Amazing how important level 2 spells become, where as in a party I'd hardly ever use them. Hail to blur and mirror image. Took resist fear instead of invisibility though - jury's still out on that one. Didn't waste one on vocalise , since I know who'se having the amulet of power.
Still best early spell in my opinion: poly self. Combine liberally with protections and you have chapter one pretty much sorted out.
When you get a level 5 pick..... Ouch, I really shouldn't have taken sunfire first. The early parts were a doddle after that. Protect up, rush in, blast off, blast off again while protections hold. Not much left after two of those. Even stood in the middle of the 4 golems, Nalia's quest, blasted off this 4 times (Did have to run around a little here, but still). I had so much of a tougher time with these in a party of 6! And in a party of one, it's 100% party friendly. :D
Anyway, I'll keep you updated on my first choice, but I guess it's not going to be long before I have them all (The ones I want anyway). Level 8 hmmm Spell trigger or Abi Dalzim's? The fun just goes on.
Deathmaster Fri, 1st Feb '02, 5:15pm A problem with a sorcerer is that you could become toooooo specialised, so i get my sorcerer to pick a good selection of offensive spells with some protective spells.
While i have my support mage with all the disabling and enhancing, and my bard(third mage) to back them up, with lower level spells that i didn't pick for my sorcerer.
oops, forgot this was for a solo character.
So i would pick for your first level 7 spell,
limited wish.
Also pick disintergrate, brilliant, don't worry about destroying any items, because your sorcerer probably won't be able to use it anyway.
Also you must get staff of Magi, you get to use spell trap once a day, you just absorb all those nasty enemy spells that are casted at you.

Kill_Lexington Fri, 1st Feb '02, 6:12pm I would pick Kelben's whip if it is level 7
Viking Fri, 1st Feb '02, 7:00pm Can't really afford the whip at level 7, since spellstrike is a definite at level 9.
Not enough spells to go round for my poor sorcerer to double up at the high levels.
Limited wish may be ditto, however, we'll see on that one.
Cheers
