View Full Version : POLL: The 'Misunderstood personalities'(tm) party

Okay. I'm tired of greasily overpowered parties or solo chars. So I came up with the idea of the misunderstood personalities party. My aim with this/these party(s) is to put each character in combat situations they weren't meant for, to find funny party combinations with NPCs there had weird/funny/annoying banter. All characters will be melee only! Yes, melee only. therefore I will aim for using characters who really aren't all that in melee.
That said, let's first have a look on the PC I've been thinking about:
NOTE: Keep in mind that I'm playing bg1 tutu, and SoA + ToB with naught some Ease components AND tactics mod.

*********************
PC

Name: Yulp

Gender: male

Race: gnome
why: To romance Aerie in Bg2

Class: Kensai
Why: Mainly because he'd be pretty tough to play through BG1 with. I'm having grave difficulties as to which class I should choose, though.

Alignment: True neutral
why: because of the party combination of good, evil and neutral chars.

stats:

S 12 (13)

D 15 (Can't remember if there's a dex book in bg 1 too)

C 15(16)

W 10(11

I 12(13)

Ch 18(19)

1st roll when I hit the abilities screen. So, no re-rolls. placed all those points in Ch because that seemed to be the best place to put them, in order to avoid getting too much benefit from a high stat (besides cheaper prices in stores - mind that I can't have A 20 Rep).

Skills:

** Spears
** Two-Handed weap fight
evenly divided skills among the two stats throughout bg1... In 2, we'll see :p

*********************
NPC's in bg1

-Garrick: He's annoying, pathetic, and everything but good with the WH I'm planning on giving him.

-Tiax: This guys rox when it comes to funny banter. I'll give him a a flail/morning star

-Xan: His melancholic nature always make me rather want to kill him than actually save him. He'll do with his Moonblade

-Quayle: Need I say anymore? A Cleric with 10 wis  . He'll get a quarterstaff.

-Safana: will dual-wield a couple of daggers.

*********************
NPC's in bg2

-Nalia: Annoying, pathetic, fits right in! She will be using clubs only.

-Jan: Easily the funniest NPC in the BG series! He'll be using a quarterstaff.

-Aerie: just pathetic. Her main job is to Romance my PC (perish the thought of how the kid'll look). A Warhammer is what she'll be using.

-Cernd: Annoying and pathetic. He'll get to use a scimitar

-Anomen: A pain in the arse! He won't be allowed to become a member of the order (That way he'll actually become a quite decent NPC). He'll be using a Quaterstaff.

*********************

And that is, as they say, that. Please post your thoughts on how to make the party combinations even more fun/weird. Keep in mind, though, that I'm also looking for characters who really aren't as good as they go.

^Looks like a different approach to the game, and one I wish best of luck to you. From what seems this will be a HARD journey. (ESPECIALLY with infamous TACTICS mode it will be next to impossible but HEY just prove me wrong!)

ONE HITCH though:
Anomen can NOT use Halberds as a former cleric he is forbidden to spill blood, (what a JOKE) WHAT ABOUT giving him a quarterstaff to make him even weaker? (he is good with maces and slings)

Nalia using clubs? It is so pointless but well...it is your aim to make NPCs as weak as possible...

WHY don't you put Heardalis? He can be VERY powerful if you use him well and can be WEAKEST if you don't! Have him use a HALBERD instead OF Anno(y)men!!! :D I GUESS HE WILL BE LAUGHABLE?

olimikrig
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 5:29pm
 Anomen'll get a quatersatff then, I guess.
Well, afair Nalia can backstab with a club though.

Btw, I'll also use Dungeon-Be-Gone, so I'll probably miss out on the hardest battle, imho that is, in the tactic mods (I say hardest 'cus it's so early on, and you aren't really ready for such foes).

WHY don't you put Heardalis? He can be VERY powerful if you use him well and can be WEAKEST if you don't! Have him use a HALBERD instead OF Anno(y)men!!! I GUESS HE WILL BE LAUGHABLE? Now that is actually quite an interesting idea!

EDIT: Erm, never mind. Though perhaps you could use Skie instead of Safana; I think she's got some banters with Garrick. And an improperly used Bard is a must for a useless party. :heh:

Keep in mind that you may have to reload if Quayle and Tiax start going at it. (They will attack each other eventually.)

Give Nalia a dagger +1 so she can poke stuff.

O heck, guess I might cheat a wee, and download a happy party mod. Though that might ruin some of the best damn banter the game has to offer?

Yeah, just reload if it happens; it's a random occurence. :hmm: This is giving me an idea...

Are you going to be allowed to cast spells before battle (i.e. Stoneskin) in this crazy game of yours? Because if not... well, that's scary. Especially in Tactics. I mean, how will you even go after a dragon?

olimikrig
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 6:40pm
@UCLAP
Besides restriction on weaponry selection, I'm allowed to do whatever the game allows me to do.

Think I'll dish Quayle to avoid the whole Tiax-Quayle predicament. Instead Imoen's along for the ride. Same somewhat applies for BG2; out goes Anomen, in comes Imoen. though no problems are to be found in the BG2 party, Imoen's imho too kind of exasperating, and a lot of the game evolve around not only her as a person, but out shared legacy as well.

Oh come on! Everyone takes Imoen exactly for those reasons. Be a rebel. Besides, you already have Nalia, Jan, and Aerie; I'd say you're loaded down with arcane magic already.

And the Nalia crack was just the result of a hilarious image I got of her tentatively poking a troll in the butt and running.

So... the current BG1 party would atm be as followed:

Garrick
Tiax
Safana
Skie
Xan

Update on the current, few, poll results.

As for Montaron, he would actually be to good in melee, so he wouldn't fit into the whole uselessness theme.

As for Alora, that might be an idea thinking pure uselessness. However, she do not have any banter halfway as fun as Tiax', or halfway as annoying as Xan's

Eldoth would also do far better than Xan in melee combat, plus I would have bring Skie along with him. I can take Skie without Eldoth, yet not the other way around, no?

Skie, I'm adding her to the team, and removes Imoen.

Imoen goes out. Who am I to question Felinoid the knwoledgable (ment in a good way boyo).

Yeslick is a good melee fighter with just about all that can be given to him.

Xzar, he has funny banter agreed. However he is better than Xan and his lousy 7 COn score. Besides, Tiax brings the 'fun' segment to the game :heh:

BG2
Haer'Dalis is notable, especially if given a Halberd he'll suck big time ;) And his irritating.

Can't comprehend why people would vote for Mazzy. She's not funny, and can easilly get quite good with whatever she gets in her hands (Remember, I'm giving them fair skill allocations!).

Valygar is in no way funny or annoying(well not as much as many others). He could might be somewhat wrecked if one tried to, but not as much as a whole lot of the other chars could.

Yoshimo is out of the question. I'm going with chars tha I'll stick to through the entire campaign. (besides, can't replace him with Immy, since Fel say I may not :p )..

And the Nalia crack was just the result of a hilarious image I got of her tentatively poking a troll in the butt and runningROLFMAO

I can take Skie without Eldoth, yet not the other way around, no? Actually, if you approach Skie without Eldoth she'll scream for the guards no matter what you say. So you'll have to take Eldoth at least for a little while.

 Why don't you replace Cernd with Hubblepot (mod)? That'd be hilarious.

Hublepot the Vegetable Merchant (http://forums.spellholdstudios.net/index.php?showforum=156)

He's a human druid IIRC, and from what I could find, it sounds like they made him uber-average stat-wise (8-12 for most), so he's the very image of a worthless-but-funny druid. I bet he has a boatload of banters with Jan on the subject of turnips, too.

Cernd in non-wolfie form is a lot more terrible than Anomen. So maybe go with both Hublepot and Cernd, the ultimate in Druid Uselessness.

olimikrig
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 10:20pm
To round up that'd be:

-Nalia
-Jan
-Aerie
-Cernd
-Hubblepot

Hmm dunno. Kind of like the idea of giving Haer'Dalis a Halberd too :shake:
But certainly Cernd is crappy when not in wolf-form too :hmm:

Felinoid
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 10:41pm
Two plain class druids plus Aerie? Blech. Kick Cernd to the curb. He's practically Hublepot+ anyway; Cernd's got uber wisdom which gives him six bonus spells.

And what about going with Anomen instead of Aerie for the crappiest romance? You've already got arcane covered with Nalia and Jan, and Anomen adds a lot more divine crappiness than Aerie with her 16 WIS. Not to mention that there are the occasional weirdos who like Aerie, but NOBODY likes Anomen. :shake:

EDIT: Oh, and put Haer'Dalis back in! :nono:

 Fel, No way Am I going female and romancing Anomen. The mere thought of it :aaa:
And Anomen of all persons. In due respect to Kuemper's hot-spot fer Anomen, all I can say is Anomen!.

Omg, I'm beginning to fear that I'm actually proving your argument right!

Felinoid

@kuemper:
Then why are you writing for a mod that will change him? :p

@olimikrig:
Fine, fine. In that case I guess Aerie's is the crappiest of all the female romances. :hmm: But do you really need a romance in the first place?

EDIT: Omg, I'm beginning to fear that I'm actually proving your argument right! Damn straight.

Male PC (to avoid romance)
Nalia
Jan
Haer'Dalis
Anomen
Hublepot

olimikrig
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 11:03pm
That sounds okay. I just download the Nalia romance mod (if she can romance gnomes that is).

Now, to weaponry selectinon. I believe I've already stated what weapons I had planned. Any additions, Fel?

olimikrig
Tue, 13th Sep '05, 11:19pm
Meh :p

Hmm. Jan needs something that fits his personlity. Someone create a 'Turnip' mod allowing me to let Jan use turnips in melee

Jan needs something there screams out:

hymn of a Jan Jansen (silly poem)

Wirdle, Widle, Wirdle-woo
What can we gnomish heroes do
fizle, fazle, follip, FOW!
When tall-folks hits like KAPOW!

Monkey, tonkey, monkey, moo
So what if we be shorter than you
shizel,shazel, shozel, shulp
My magic'll make you gulp!

pilax, polux, paliz, poo
You need think it over twice or two
gnasku, pasku, poska, pon
before a gnomish hero you take on

Wirdle, Widle, Wirdle-woo
What can we gnomish heroes do
magi, targi, togu, ton
you died by me flash-mater gun!

Nalia with the tiniest pointy object you can find (pokey pokey  )
Jan with a quarterstaff
Haery with a halberd
Anomen with the Club of Detonation (BOOM! )
Hublepot with a scimitar (good for choppin' up vittles)

@olimikrig:
If you really want a gnomish half-breed, you could try my Little People Idea (http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/10/4333.html) with Aerie as the sixth instead of Goo. Perhaps love is the only thing that can sooth the mighty Tiax PC. :shake:

Going back to my old idea, thus restart game using tutu...

@Western: Now I know...

Update on the progrees thus far;
Funilly enough, Xzar has the second highest killing rate, with a total percentage of 22% of all the killing done so far... The highest is my PC, which is somewhat weird, considering that he actually has the worst ability stats of the lot (66%).
Already have had to reload some times going through the Nashkel mines.´Those Kobold Archers just keep on ripping my (N)PC(s) apart! (with a kensai PC in BG1, who has an AC of 6(7) and using a spear, and NPC's bearing the names of Montaron, Xzar and (sir) Garrick it ain't that hard to comprehend why :heh: )...

Took me approximately 7 reloads to get the Half-breed bastard better known as Mulahey down. When he finally died, I had lost Montaron and Xan. Xzar actually took him alone! Mage Arm.+ ghoul hand. Mulahey couldn't hit him, but he could hit the half-breed :p .
First I had charmed Mulahey and tried to use up his spell repetoir, but he quickly snapped out of it, so had to grab the scroll of sleep in the chest, in order to passivate the kobolds, so I could take him on.

As soon as I had looted his body and the chest, I stormed out of his lair, before the kobold woke up, and the skeletons spotted me.

In my most honest opinion (actually, based from experience) Haer excels in using Halberds. I'd recommend something like clubs (+ buckler) or spears (Backbiter comes to mind), if you want him to stay weak.

olimikrig
Fri, 16th Sep '05, 4:08am
That's good to know. Might give him a club. Might let him dual wiel something like club+morning star or a flail or war hammer (I'm not assembling Croem Fayer)...

Silverstar
Fri, 16th Sep '05, 12:22pm
If you dualwield him he will be superiour. He is destined to use TWO SMALL and FAST weapons so give him ONE BIG SLOW one like a halberd or twohanded sword. It is Misunderstood Personalities (tm) party right? :)
