View Full Version : Fighter/Mage will not cast from quick slot

I have a dual class fighter/mage and have "Standard Attack" or "Ranged Attack" as his script. If I have a scroll in his quick slot such as Magic Missle, he refuses to cast it. I guess this is because his script to attack all enemies overrides my command to cast the spell. Is this normal? I hate to select a totally controled script just because of this. Is there a way to customize the script to fix this? Maybe one I can downlaod. I am new to BG2 so I know nothing about scripts. Or am I doing something wrong?

I think most of the scripts are scripted for memorised spells, not scrolls you may have equipped.

Also, check you have party AI turned on.

Thats how the standard attack script works. Weapons take preference over spells.
Turn you AI (toggle 'a') off for a round so that you can cast spells from your quick slot.

I can never get those scripts to work properly. Half the time my party ends up standing around when they should be fighting.

Yes, turning off party AI allowes me to cast a spell or use a wand from the quick slot, overriding weapons. But then some of my party will not attack during the round while the party AI is off. I still hope there is a script fix for this so I can leave party AI on.

Another related? problem is that I cannot fire the wand of lightning at all. Even with party AI turned off. All the other wands work. Looks like the lightning wand is bugged. When I get some other mage in my party I will see if they can use it.

I love the Universal script. I put it on my whole party and when I dont feel like micro managing a battle, especially big ones with lots of spells going off.. i just turn on the AI.. it rox.

Ditto, I then use autopause to ensure characters are always doing something in a fight.

I too never use scripts.

About your wand of lightning: unlike other wands, you need to select multiple targets for this wand. IIRC, about 6 targets. There is a numeric counter on the bottom corner of the targetting cursor. Chances are, you only selected one target(as you would for any other wand), and so the game is waiting for you to pick more targets. Try clicking on more targets and see if that works (and watch those bolts fly!).

Sometimes I use the scripts. Depends on the battle. In a really tough fight I like full control. IMO it works better than the scripts. I also use autopause for traps -learned that the first time through. Now I use it for party member hit, enemy sighted.
