Ok, I've got BG II installed and ready, and everywhere it says "You can import yur character from the original BG" so I'm ready to do just that...

...But nowhere can I find any instructions on how to do this!

Can someone help me?

Copy your BG1 save to BG2 "save" folder. Then start the game, choose new game and import your save. :)

I exported my BG1 character into the BG1 character file with all the items I wanted to import as well.

Then I copied the character file from BG1 and pasted it into the BG2 character file.

Then I imported the character from the character creation screen in BG2.

Don't be surprised if some of the items change a litte...

You have the option to export your character to the character file at anytime in BG1 or BG2.

This is the best way. If you import a save, once you save over it it's gone. If you have the character file you can restart with the same character again later if you want to.

I haven't done it for a few weeks so I can't recall off hand exactly which screen gives the option, but I'd guess the screen that has the personal info of your character (Bio/Kills and such) has it.

As for dragging eq across from BG1 or reimporting your BG2 char ? Well.....

--Spoiler--

You can drag all your BG1 eq or BG2 eq across, due to a simple debug and play test mode that Interplay/BlackIsle/Wizards-TSR, left in the game, and that is when your screen goes black just before you scream, you pause the game, drop all the eq you're wearing, and then go through Jonny's rant, and then Imoen's, then pick all the eq up.

Personally IMHO, even though this was never taken out of BG2, I've used it once, and that's when I carried a Paladin across from BG1 to Bg2, and carried over different types of armor, weapons and rings. I found the game TOO EASY. Thus I did noit have a problem going through BG2 at all, and it proved way too easy. Thus why I won't exploit that debuging/play test system again.

But there you go if you really want to carry your eq across, I don't really see the point. There are one or two items, that if they are on your BG1 char, will automatically be imported into BG2, no matter what, for what reasons the second item is I'm not sure. But the first item, well it's one of the, if not the major easter egg in the BG2 game.

Item 1) Golden Pantaloons from BG1
Item 2) Well, that I believe depends on your class, which I wasn't aware of it, until now. When I took my Paladin through BG1 and into Bg2, the Helm of Balduran was towards the end of Jonny's dungeon, I was of the opinion this was always there, but, what surprised me was, no it isn't always there, it's brought over from BG1, but I don't believe it has to be on your imported char, but brought over for people who can use it. I am currently playing a mage, and I had no Helm of Balduran, but I did have a very nice ring, (some people would disagree due to it's some awful stats on it), that my mage was using, called the Claw of Kazgaroth, which was in the same location that the Helm of Balduran should have been in. So I believe depending on your class, depends what item you get from Jonny's dungeon, which I find quite nice. I have to start BG2 again due to bad party options, so I'll test the claw item versus the helm and definitely clarify this.
