Hello,I am new on this site.I have heard a lot about this game and now I have start play it.However,I am really confused about this game.So many spells,so many ways.I have started with a cleric\mage half elf and now I realised how many spells are in the game.I read some of them but I really can imagine where I will use some of them. The NPC-s are so well done, with their own personality. This game charm me like a charm person spell.I love the NPC Jaheira because she help me in every decision.I like Yoshimo because he appears to know so many about Amn.I lose Imoen in a battle with a powerful mage and that bold guy died in prision-I don't know his name.Howerver,I was surprised by the new NPC of mine,Aerie. She has the same kit as I do.Now,I will try to go out in Cooper district at that tavern to find out the help I need to find Imoen.I hope I will find new NPC-s and spells from now on.That is a really great game, you know.

Indeed it is, as we all can agree :)
However, user-friendly choice for a first-timer is considered to be some sort of a warrior, as they're simplier than spell-users. But don't worry, i played my game first time trough with a sorcerer.
Ayways, welcome aboard!

Yes this game is great fun and welcome aboard and as for simple being a fighter on your first attempt, my first run-through was with a Druid. :D

Nah, this game is over-rated...... Who am kidding. This game is amazing. I have only ever played through with a warrior. However, I am soon going to play through with a Gnome illusionist.

Welcome to the insanity! Don't be afraid to experiment with your spells; that's the best way to find out which ones you like and which you don't...everyone has their favorites. I certainly hope you took Remove Magic when you created your PC, though...you won't find a scroll of that for a LONG time. And you'll definitely want Stoneskin, although those scrolls are a dime a dozen.

The worst thing about playing a C/M is how long it takes to get levels...you might get impatient. But it's well worth it in the long run...they're VERY powerful characters at higher levels.

I'm assuming you're not using a walkthrough guide for your first run through. Talk to everyone in the game! You never know who's going to give you a quest or a good item.

You'll meet LOTS of new NPCs...a large part of the fun of this game is the interactions they have with your character and with each other. They all (or almost all) come with quests of their own which keep things interesting. BTW, the bald guy who died in prison was Minsc, and shame on you for letting him get killed! :) He's one of the more amusing NPCs. Try to keep him alive next time!

Enjoy, and let us know how you're making out!

Yeah, this game is quite good. It is so good that I am currently playing it for a second time (which is pretty rare for me).

Hhmm yeah this game is awsome, a little search in the boards might point you a few spells to choose. But I'd advise to test, it's easier for cleric spell since you have acces to it all.

This game is awsome!

Welcome to SP and your new addiction, Night_Heaven. I hope BG2 and SP give you as much enjoyment as they've given just about everybody else here.

Part of the joy of BG2 is the number of things you keep finding out, even after years of playing, and all the NPC dialogues (with the PC and each other). As well as the rest of us BG2 addicts, there's also a large and dedicated modding community, which means the game really never gets stale.

Also, you've probably instantly made it into Beren's good books with this comment:
I love the NPC Jaheira

Since now, you have a lot of new "friends", like the strong Jaheria, the mighty Minsc (and Boo, you forgot Boo!), the fresh Imoen, etc.
Everybody have a new world for to conquest and to enjoy.
Welcome brother.

Welcome indeed! BG2 is a great game and perhaps even more than that! We all love and play it!

This is your first run, you are so very lucky, so do not look into walk-throughs or solutions, or avoid SPOILER writings on the boards!

NPCs are so fun, I guess your PC is good aligned so you are recruiting kind and nice people. Know that every NPC has his/her own mind and some may even dislike you.

If your gender is male, female species can try to romance you, it is fun!

You don'T need to rush in the game, relax and have fun, do a few quests as they come by.

As for spell selection, there are good spell guides all over the place, but for the real fun YOU should test each and find the spells to your liking. Though some universal spells are almost always useful, like Stoneskin, Haste etc. You are a cleric/mage, one of my favourite combos, the one-stop magic shop, enjoy!

Have fun, and if you need any help, just ask us and we will do our best to help ya, in any way! Right, guys? ;)

Thank you all for your help.I have played a lot since then, almost non-stop and I can't stop.I never played before a game that have such a charm, such quests, such story and such companions.I don't use any walk-throughs.My mind is neutral good but I can be a little evil.
I have tested my spells and skills.First,I have figured out what Saving Throws are and why are so important.I have find out what Magi Resistance is,what weapons I have found etc.
It took me a while to figure out what spells are important for me.So,the spell Doom from cleric spells is not affected by saving throws and is good.Sanctuary I think it is a great spell-nobody attack me! Next,I use Remove paralasys and curse.I found that dispel magic is very useful to get rid of many bad spells.Stoneskin is good indeed and I have it.Fireball is a good spell for harming enemyes.I have invisibility purge and improved invisibility-when I don't have any more sanctuary,I use this spell.I know that restoration will help me in future and I save one. This are the spells I have figured out to be my best spells-for now.
Next, are the NPC-s.I arrived at Cooper district and in that big tavern I have foundthree more heroes.I have tried them all,but I can't choose Nalia because I have Yoshimo and it is good-I will never kick him out from the group.Anomen is like Jaheira but Jaheira is better and she will stay in my group until the end.I have picked up Korgan the dwarf. He is a real fighter and make some battles easier. Now, I have in my group a really beautiful dark elf named Viconia and I like her because she agree with me in every decision that I make-will stay in my group forever.Aerie is not any more because I put her back at the circus-it has the same kit as I do and she is more weaker than me.But I will change some of them,I think.I still have one spot empty in my team, but I think there are other NPC-s waiting for me in this game.
At quests, now I search for a great mage assasin Valigar and I have to free Nalia's castle.I need to find Eyeless cult and find a book in a tomb. There are many quests and I think there is too much for me to do.Jaheira calms me down and is really a smart NPC.She tells me once:"The present will pass by if you live in the past.Neither should you wait too long for the future to find you".Yoshimo is really a bag of informations. He gives me advices, have relations with others thiefs and he know what he is doing.Viconia is motivate me in every decision and keeps me in mod for action. She speak with me on every oportunity.Korgan is a funny dwarf. He wants to break skulls and find gold, tons of it.A really good party,my first one.
I leave you for now,but can you tell me if there are other spells that I need to have,if Valigar is soo strong or if someone need to be in my party.I will read any kind of post thet will help me.Bye,keep this game in my heart.

2 often underrated but very useful spells are strength and protection from evil 10 foot radius.
Both last very long and strengthen the party considerably. You can even cast strength twice in a row to gain 18/00 for a long time.

This quote is priceless:

I love the NPC Jaheira because she help me in every decision. A lot of people don't like her for that very same reason....

Silverstar
Thu, 16th Mar '06, 5:03pm
Well you start to recruit evil NPCs, if you didn'T notice already let me tell you, Viconia and Korgan are both evil, but sure they are cool and powerful! But do not let the evil completely dominate you!

Well, good riddance to Aerie, since you are a stronger C/M.

There are a few NPCs you will meet in your quests, some of them are quite good! Pick whoever you like, BUT make sure there will be little conflict between party members. Like I said before, NPCs have their own personalities and decisions, and some will hate each other, this could lead to serious problems if you are not careful! Focus on their alignments, evil goes well (generally) with evil, while neutrals are OK with just anyone, for example.

It seem from the quote that Jaheira has already started a 'romance' with you. Bony good luck, she is a hard nyt to crack, but once you do she is..simply beautiful and very rewarding! Just don'T let a cat-fight happen between other female NPCs. Hope I didn'T spoil anything for you.

You seem to be pretty good at spell-selection so far, so a cookie to you! :p C/M is a very versatile class. Cast mage protections like Stoneskin, Mirror Image, 4th level cleri spell Holy Power, add level 2 cleric spell Draw Upon Holy Might, haste yourself and you will be a helluwa fighter with fighter THAC0 and good HP, nearly invincible, with 20+ STR and extra attacks! Just one way and one aspect of the C/M.

Like you said, saving throws are very important. Most important category is perhaps, save vs spells, your ability to resist magical effects and spells, such as a fireball, or charm effect, or a deadly disintegration! Then paralyse/poison/death is vital against dangerous and poisonous enemies. You are lucky, since you are a C/M you get the best saving throws of both classes, cleric's super tough save vs death and mage's very good save vs spells!

Have fun, and keep giving us feedbacks, it is soo great to watch as a new player discover this most beautiful game! ;)

Hello again.I keep my adventure going, so now I found Valigar the mage killer but he is not how I expected to be. He is a npc, I never seen this kind of kit- stalker - however he tell me the his side of the story and I belive I will go with him to find the truth about the Magical Sphere. I save Nalia's castle but I can't defeat that giant golem in the secret room. Her father died because I arrived too late, but I will do my best next time.
I have searched some houses in the city and I have found some legs and some hands. Can I build something with them? I have started the cult of the eyeles quest and I found that paladin Keldron but I have no room for him now, maybe later. I have found great treasures and great items but some enemies are too powerfull for me. There is a lich in a tavern guarding a chest and I can't win her fight and others but I can't remember now. In my party things are not going so well, Viconia broke my romantic story with Jaheira and Korgan doesn't like her either. Viconia said something about Yoshimo like he is false or something but I don't think she know much about him. My party is fighting not only with enemies but they don't get along too well. But that is ok, they are good. Now I need to complete a quest about the druids in Trademeet so I leave you for now. Bye.

Well, like I said NPCs will have conflicts if you are not careful.

If you need tactics against liches and other tough enemies, just ask, I beat those guys improved versions via mods on insane dificulty, you can trust my advice, hopefully. ;) And I am more than willing to help. But I understand your concern, that you want to win all the challenges by yourself, on your first run and I do respect that!

Have fun and keep us updated!

About Nalia's father, you can't save him IIRC. So don't ruin your future games by making unnecessary haste, as it won't help.
As for the hands and legs, you indeed can. Try to find same kind of tombs in other places, one of them has explanation for it all.
And for hard enemies, try coming back later, with better equipment and levels.

I have completed the druids quest and now I've decided to keep in my group this beautiful shapeshifer Cernd. He is quite honest and I tink will be an interesting adition. Next, I have found the super lich that attacked me after took his torso and arms and legs. It was very hard and I was not able to beat him. Now he is transformed in a skull and he is quite good. I leave him. I am now in the beholders nest and just foun some quite good items, but I still have to get out of here. I have not found yet the Magical Sphere and how am I suppose to fit in a globe, anyway? It's funny but I haven't seen the most of the game soo...
I am still searching this sphere- somewhere in Atkala. In my party everyting is well now. I'm not speaking with Jaheira anymore because Viconia get the party started. Im leaving, have fun with this game

I have finally found that sphere which by the way is a Planar Sphere not magical sphere and it was much biger than I expected. It was quite a challange this quest and Valygar's ancestor is quite smart if he manage to create a sphere that travel in time.A very well done quest A+. I have comleted the unseeing eye quest too A+ for this one too. This quest was a hard duty because the beholders are very strong creatures and use a variety of lots of low and medium spells that strike me right in the heart.Tough fight... I explore now the Red Dragon cave but before that I have found this Mazzy halfing or something like that in a dark prision.I have tried her but it's not that good fighter like Korgan.Maybe later. In my party everything goes well but I really miss some of them like Aerie, Imoen and even the bold guy.I have a lot of quests to do but I am afraid that now I have a bigger level and I still don't quite know what spells to use at my level.I will try them all, however. I don't know if I will ever complet this game-It is so BIG. I have the feeling that I have done soo much and still is soo more to come. Someone tell me that after you save Imoen you still have a lot of the game and Throne of Bhall too. Uff... leave you for now, there is more important things for you just to read how I done in this game. Bye

I have killed the red dragon after a long and hard battle with no help from anyone. After the battle I have found a really good weapon wich is useable by paladin only .Too bad... I am now allied with the shadow thiefs and I am ready do depart to Asylum fortress. I still have some question and if you can answer without spoil me will be great.
1.My (first) party now has 6 members: Me, Jaheira, Viconia, Korgan, Yoshimo and Cernd. It is a good group for me but who will I kick out if Imoen will wish to join me? I was thinking Cernd will leave the party but...
2. After the Asylum can I go back whenever I want to complet other quests?
3. There is a great reward for killing the dragons in Amn?
4. Breach is the same spell as Remove magic? True sight is the same as Invisibility purge and See invisibility?
5. Why negative plane proiection and death ward don't protect me from undead? Thank you! See you soon

Ooh, here some questions that even I know the answers to:
1 - Um, why not decide when you get there? Who knows what might have changed by then.
2 - Mostly, yes.
3 - Yes
4 - No, but I can never remember the difference. I think Breach is specifically for removing combat type protections, like Stoneskin.
5 - NPP protects you from level drain, not from all attacks by undead.

kmonster
Thu, 23rd Mar '06, 12:04am
1.Keep all 6 until you find Imoen. Then you can still decide.
2.In chapter6 you can do the quests.
3.No reward for you at all, only their possessions and your survival.
4.Read the descriptions, true sight also sees illusions like mirror image.
5.NPP protects from level drain often caused by undead and death ward from death effect spells.

Felinoid
Thu, 23rd Mar '06, 12:06am
1. Um, don't worry about that. At all. One of your five NPCs is designed to leave when the time comes. He/she always leaves at Spellhold no matter what; it's kind of a turn-off for most people for having him/her in a party since he/she can't stay around through the whole thing.
2. Yep. There are no time limits on any quest that I can think of.
3. XP reward, yes. But noone in Amn really cares if you kill the dragons; you get a better reward for solving petty issues in Trademeet.
4. Not at all. I don't really have time to go into the differences now, but maybe someone else will help you with that.
5. NPP does protect you from undead, specifically the level-draining effects of some of them. Level-draining is quite a tough blow, since it sticks you at a lower level unless you fix it with a Restoration scroll/spell. And in the meantime, you're at a much lower level of effectiveness, with HP, THAC0, memorized spells, spell effectiveness, saving throws, pretty much everything lowered. That makes NPP one of the best 3rd level clerical spells you can have.

And Death ward protects you from instant death spells, not the undead. :hmm: Though liches do like to use insta-death spells in Timestops, so I guess that's not wholly accurate. :)

For more information on various spells' effects, consult your nearest BG2 manual, pages 108-215, or the spell descriptions that can be seen when you right-click on the spells in question in your spellbook. For spells introduced by ToB, you may also check your ToB manual, pages 16-23, or through the in-game method mentioned above. This has been a recording. Thank you for calling the BG sage. :shake:

What? One of the NPC will leave? Just like that? Ups,I hope I can still reload if a npc that I like very much will leave. About the death ward I was almost sure that provides protection from undead attacks. Why?I don't know. Then repulse undead seem a nice spell.I try now to find a way to enter the Asylum and after that I will post again.Until then' I really want to know how you get on the island of Asylum if I would joined Bodhi. Does she provide another way of traveling?
In my party, everything is just fine. Viconia seem to not enjoy my feelings any more and Korgan is willing to met Jon to crack his head :). Yoshimo is quite a star an this Island and said that will provide me another way to get in. Jaheira don't speak with me anymore and I am sorry about that. Next time I will try to enjoy her not Viconia who by the way has a serpent tongue-poisionous-. Cernd is more silent but this is him soo I will get used to that. I am going to miss one of them.Uff. You may have some suprises in Spellhold, but don'T worry. Everything is eventual. :p

Have fun, and stick to other guy's advices. They are knowledgable!

Repulse undead is a nice enough spell, but it does not confer total invulnerability, a lucky strike can still level drain you.

Try scrolls of protection from undead instead. These are green, usable by anone with normal intelligence scrolls. They make you completely 'İnvisible' to ALL undead, including MOST powerful ones. :D You can buy lots from temples.

I am speachless...now I know why all of you keep that secret...Yoshimo BETRAY me ! Nooo...this is not FUNNY. How can this happen to a game like this ? I mean, you love a caracter and then he betray you ? And after all of this you still need to fight with him...with a friend . That is not funny-not funny at all . What will hapen next ? Jaheira dies , Viconia dies , Korgan will go berserk and I will have to kill him too ? And my good thief is now dead. How rude...
I am glad that I have found Imoen but the price I pay is too much . Now all my tactic has changed and I see this game with diferent eyes . Is still a very good game but when things like that happen... And Bodhi is a realy well done character, a really good enemy and a smart way to keep you alive in the game (is her game after all not Irenicus hwo want to kill you) . I however now I will be back to Amn as soon as posible and see what else is changed there . And I have Imoen too . Still , I have some questions about some things , please don't yell too much :)
1 . What is with that book I found on a crazy mage?It has unlimited spells ?
2. Why when I fight those underground dogs they can cast on me confusion when I have Chaotic commands on me ?
3 . Why I can't remove remove blind from me ? Dispel magic dosen't work with other bad spells either .
4 . Turn undead at a bad cleric is an ability that allow you to raise undead from dead ones ? Viconia can do that and there are for my control.
Is still much from this game but I have seen the worst I guess . Until the other time, bye.

Kinda turns you off on taking him at all, but he's just so damn good. It's not fair. On the plus side, don't forget to take his heart to a Shrine of Ilmater to redeem his soul. It's worth mucho XP.

1. It's a once a day item. (Though you can cheat by sticking it in the Bag of Holding and then taking it back out again. ;) For some reason, that recharges items to one charge.)
2. You mean the Umber Hulks? Chaotic Commands should prevent the confusion (provided the spell hasn't expired), and when all else fails, Korgan's rage can keep him safe from it.
3. I never bother. Blindness evaporates on its own, and usually doesn't hinder me too much because it doesn't hit the entire party (at least, in my experience).
4. Evil clerics (like Viconia) can control undead, but good and neutral clerics will make them either run away or just plain explode (depending on the level of the cleric and the toughness of the undead).

1)These are (all ?) the spells that can, randomly, appear when you turn a page :

Fireball
Burning Hands
Wyvern Call
Invisibility
Protection from Evil
True Seeing
Farsight
Spell Turning
Stinking Cloud
Lightning Bolt

3)Dispel Magic has a % chance of success. The higher is the level of your spell caster, higher is the chance of a successful dispel magic.Look in the spell description for more info...
If the blindness insists, then cast a Heal spell.

What is the name of the spell that enemies use to turn my character red and hostile? Charm, Dire charm or Domination.

Even I am allied with the king, I want to help that prince... I don't know where I will be after that but I will go bellow the sea and there will be undreground. Cool. Sanctuary only makes you invisible to people. It doesn't protect you from fireballs. You'll want something that give protection from fire, either a potion (looks like a red dripping candle) or one of the spells. Clerics, Druids and Rangers get Protection from Fire at level 3.

Hello! I am posting soo late because I keep playing this never-ending game. i have just passed in the Underdark and make a deal with the white dragon Avalon (sorry of this is not her name). WOW! It is a new world in here. No stupid monsters, no vegetation no nothing...just dark. I am now a drow and I am about to enter the great city Nush Natha (sorry again for the name if is not correct). What in the world is up with those caves? In a cave I have found reptilians and they don't die soo easy and in another part I have found a cave full with beholders (my nightmare). What is with them? do they are optional or not?
I have bigger levels now and new spells. I, however tried to use some of them but I really don't know where I do wrong:
-Remove magic dispels what?
Greater Restoration is much better than restoration?
Why my skeletons attack me sometimes?
I will be stuck in this drow looking like for much time? I have a good reputation and I am afraid the dark elves will figure out who am I. can they do that?
Also, i have a hight inteligence (18) why I don't get extra spells in my mage book?
Lower resistance is a great spell but why i want to use that when I will use breach and doom?
Sorry if this questions bother you, I just want to play this game better... Bye bye

Remove magic dispels what? It does the same thing as dispel magic, but only to opponest/enemys

Greater Restoration is much better than restoration?
Yes, aside from the effects of restoration, it will also heal completely your character

I will be stuck in this drow looking like for much time? I have a good reputation and I am afraid the dark elves will figure out who am I. can they do that?
Again without spoiler, just make sure you do what they tell you, and inthe given time

Since it's late in the evening I can give you just some short answers:

Remove magic dispels only hostile spell effects.

Greater Restoration is much better than Restoration because it heals you as well.

Your skeletons attacked you because they were turned by an evil enemy cleric.

Don't worry: The dark elves won't figure it out ;) You will get away with a lot.

The number of spells in your spell book is limited. With an intelligence of 18 the maximum number of spells per level is 18. You should raise the intelligence of your mage by a potion of genius before writing new spells into her spell book.

To explain the benefits of Lower Resistance in comparison to these other spells would take far too long. For instance: Some Spells can't be removed with Breach. Some spells counter it. Some creatures like Lichs are immune.
But essentially it's a difference of style of how to use Magic.
With spells like Breach you remove the magical defenses of an enemy to kill it with weapons.
With Lower Resistance you reduce the Magic Resistance of an enemy - if he has this ability - to kill or disable it with a spell.
Doom is not enough for this. Even if the enemy fails his save the spell still has to overcome the Magic Resistance.
Try this link for a very good explanation of the mechanics of magic in BG2:

Have fun.

Also, i have a hight inteligence (18) why I don't get extra spells in my mage book?
If you mean why you can't cast more spells/day,then high INT doesn't give you any bonus spells.

Remove magic affects only enemies (red-circled) and will dispel everything, both negative effects or buffs, if your dispelling check is succesful.

Greater Restoration is the most potent spell of a cleric, it completely and instantly heals all of the party, including summons, and there is no range limit. Definitely a worthy spell to turn the tide of a battle!

In 2E rules, mages do not gain bonus spells due to high INT. INT determines maximum spell level available for a caster (not implemented in BG2), max number of spells known per level, and the chance to learn a new spell. Clerics and druids on the other hand, do get bonus spells for exceptional wisdom.

Breach is needed to rip the combat protections of a mage. Combat protections include:Stoneskin, Pro from Normal/Magical weapons, Protection from X type spells, etc. Breach is ineffective against liches, as liches are immune up to 5th level of spells.

breach will not dispel SPELL protections. Spell protections are those which protects the caster from spells, like: (minor) Spell Deflection, (minor) Spell Turning, Spellshield, Spell Immunity, Spell Trap, etc. To dispel these, you need spell protection removal spells: Spell thrust, Secret Word, Pierce Magic, Ruby Ray of Reversal, Khelben's Warding Whip, Pierce Shield, Spellstrike. Read spell descriptions for what level fo protections they are able to dispel.

A Spellshield spell or Spell Immunity:Abjuration can stop Breach. To counter Sı.Abjuration, you need to fire a Ruby Ray of Reversal, which is alteration.

Silverstar, your description of Greater Restoration is not correct.

That's what the handbook says:

GREATER RESTORATION (NECROMANCY)
Range: Touch
Saving Throw: None
Casting Time: 3
Area of Effect: 1 Creature
Duration: Instant

When this spell is cast, the life energy level of the recipient is raised. This reverses any previous life energy level drain of the creature by a force or monster. A restoration spell will also restore the intelligence of a creature affected by a feeblemind spell. It also negates any form of insanity such as confusion or berserk, fully heals the target, and cures any disease or poisons. The casting of this spell
is very draining on the priest and she will likely require rest immediately after the casting as it will cause days worth of fatigue almost instantaneously.

DarkStrider
Fri, 31st Mar '06, 5:23pm
Sorry Latro but Silverstar is right it affects the party in this game, Lesser Restoration affexts only one person. And it does heal all effects on the party at that time, the down side is the fatigue, and then keeping the priest out of the way of battle and casting long-range spells. It's unfortunate that Barduskan Black Brew doesn't make it to Athkatla fromn the ten towns.

Latro

You are right, DarkStrider !

I just checked it myself in my current game.

But it's neither documented in the BG2 handbook (see my last entry) nor in the description of the spell in the clerics spellbook (which is exactly the same as in the handbook).

How can this be ?
There are so many fixpacks out there ;)

Therefore I've never used the spell before. I didn't want to waste a level 7 spell slot on a combination of Heal and Lesser Restoration.
This will definitely change now :)

@Night Heaven - Try this (which is what I do): cast Breach first. If Breach does not get rid of the mage's protections, cast Khelban's Warding Whip or Ruby Ray of Reversal, which ever you have memorized. If those fail, use Dispel Magic or Remove Magic. Some protections aren't dispelled despite what you try. That's when you beat those mages with sharp, pointy swords. ;)

@Darkstrider

Thanks for confirming, I thought maybe my 40+ mods caused my GRestoration spell to go awry...Heh. I miss Berduskan Black Brews too!

@Latro

Well I was suprised to find GRestoration 'that' effective too. I like this spell and my clerics always memorise a good amount of them. Fatigue is nothing if you can save the whole party instantly.

I guess ToB modifies this spell to such power. I can't remember, but I guess in pure SoA it only targets one recipient as the spell description says.

One strategy is, keeping weak clerics (Aerie) away, and locked in a safe room while the tanks are battling heavy monsters. If tanks are injured, cleric can cast GR very quickly, and from a very safe distance too, it will heal everybody completely! Cheesy? I don't think so pal! :thumb:

@Night_heaven

Oh that is very easy in fact. I will try to explain better.

If a spell caster has protection spell which renders him immune to your weapon attacks, these are called Combat Protections. Examples are: Stoneskin, which will absorb any kind of pyschial attack, and Protection From Magic Weapons, which makes the caster totally immune to all enchanted weapons for 4 rounds. Mantle, Improved Mantle type spells make the caster immune up to a certain enchantment levels of weapons, so they are combat protections too.

Other protection from X type spells fall into this category too. Like: Protection from Fire, Protection from Cold, Protection from Lightning, Protection from Evil, etc. These are all called COMBAT protections. Are you with me so far? Good.

As a bonus, Fireshields (both red and blue) are COMBAT protections too.

To get rid of these COMBAT protections, you need to hurl a BREACH spell. That easy. It will dispel all those mentioned above, making the mage vulnerable to weapons. Kill him quickly before he can raise more defenses!

Liches are immune up to level 5 spells, so Breach will not be effective against them.

Read the spell description Breach carefully. It should list what type of protection spells it does dispel.

If you understand the concept I can go to next level, SPELL protections. However, generally, combat protections are much more important for newbies, so it is very important you learn what are they and how to get rid of them. Or highest level mages (ie: Jon Irenicus) will be invincible to you and will gladly rip your party apart in a few rounds, I am afraid.

Question: How can I as a cleric mage can cast so much good spells on me like a enemy mage or a Lich? 10 spells cast once!!! All protections.
If breach fails to work, I will try with that Alevim bimbim thing or the other spell.
Question: How does that my dispel won't dispel a thing but Viconia's dispel almost everything?
I have enter in the Ush Natha city and now I am about to get an allied ( Soulfin or something). It is a wealth city with more buildings and treasures. You can buy slaves from here...
I have found a summon demon in my clerical book but it attacks me almost instantly :) More funnier is that after me the demon will attack everything else. I keep strugle with my intention of geting out quiqly from this city but I wanna see everything! Thank you all for your help.

Level 9 Mage Spell Chain Contingency will allow THREE spells of up to 8th level fired instantly. These are fired on a certain condition, enemies use it as: SEE ENEMY, which is you!

6th level spell Contingency will allow a single 6th level spell fired. Contingency is same as above.

Spell Sequencer, Minor Spell Sequencer, and Spell Trigger will allow you to fire 8 spells of varying levels instantly if you use them right. You use them whenever you wish.

Liches also use Tatoo of Power, a secret spell storage for the true masters of the arcane, to put yet more and more protection spells. (They are cheating! But you are not supposed to notice that! :shake: )

Dispel magic and Remove Magic has a chance to work. Your caster level versus the caster's level whose spell you are trying to dispel makes the difference. Read the spell description. Base chance of dispelling is %50 if both you and enemy caster are of same level. The more gap between the twoi the more or less likely it will work. If your level is too lower than the enemy caster you can not dispel. The reverse also applies.

Inquisitor's Dispel ability is almost always superiour as he casts it as his double level!

Mon, 3rd Apr '06, 3:30pm
Yes but PfMW does, with the same duration, ALL of what the spells you mentioned can do ;)

Except from prot.f.normal weapons. But is there a tough enemy in the game who is using normal weapons ?

Silverstar
Mon, 3rd Apr '06, 5:50pm
^Yep, and after you become immune to normal weapons thanks to tests, you will never need another spell of this type. Mantle, Improved Mantle and even uber Absolute Immunity are all rubbish when you are already immune to normal weapons. And they are of higher level too! :p

kuemper
Mon, 3rd Apr '06, 6:40pm
All right, I'll just say it - my mages don't get into positions where they get attacked with any sort of weapons (normal or magical). Because I use mages as bombadiers, they stay out of the melee and find PfMW completely useless to memorize. If you find it fun to put your mage(s) (if not soloing) on the front lines to poke enemies with a stick...have fun then. I don't and think it's a worthless spell. So there. :p

Silverstar
Mon, 3rd Apr '06, 6:51pm
Yes. You are right. I know what you mean, for once I thought PfMW was utter rubbish, I mean, the duration was 4 rounds, so sucky!

Then I got 30+ mods and encountered terrible enemeis who can dispel per hit, drain 5 levels per hit with 4 attack per round, or other enemies who have so many attacks per round to dispel your stoneskins/mirror images fast. Pure tanks do not stand a chance to survive against them.

But a caster, protected by Pro from MW, can stay there and laugh as Improved Bodhi goes 'weapon ineffective' or that willy Wizard Slayer launches dispelling arrows which never makes contact or a slightly smarter lich decides to throw a lot of MMMs in between his spells! :thumb:

Now I belive I will do new quests and I will finish some of the old ones.
As ussual I have some questions:
Can I trust those surface elves? They keep asking me all those questions and don't answer at mine...

I have to say I am not quite happy I don't face off with Irenicus. He is all the time one step in front of me.

Do I have to fight Bodhi?THAT BODHI? How am I suppose to beat her?Holy water dosen't work. Yes, THAT Bodhi. Just beat her as you would any other vampire: NPP to avoid level drain and whack away.
I have to say I am not quite happy I don't face off with Irenicus. He is all the time one step in front of me. He does lead you on a merry little chase, doesn't he? But you will have your revenge eventually... (Remember BG1 and Sarevok? Well, same goes for SoA and Irenicus...but with a twist. )
How do I use the collars left for me from the cave with Mindflayers?I mean I will found again that kind of creatures? Use them like you did before, equipping in a quick item slot and using it on an enemy. And while you may run into more mindflayers, the collars can be used on anybody. It makes for a nice little Dominate item. :D

Be thankful that you don't have to face Improved Bodhi from my mods, she is a terror to behold, with a lot of unique spell-like abilities and vastly improved combat abilities to boot. (aka:Human Shredder or Walking Ice Cube) Normal, unmodded, vanilla Bodhi is a complete wimp compared to her.

So just get Protection from Negative Energy, with spell or items, and hack her away, she is an easy fighter opponent who doesn't even drink healing potions. Be sure to use holy water on those blood pools nearby, IIRC, otherwise she will have a high regenration rate you will find unpleasant.

Tip:Lower Resistance three times, Greater Malison her, add a couple dooms, then release A LOT OF Flame Arrows on her via triggers, sequencers, they should by now do at least 15d6 damage each, you can stick 6 of them in sequencers, 90d6 damage will cripple her fast! And she will most likely fail her saves often, AFAIK she has a save vs spells of 5, you can make it 11 or even worse with GM+dooms!

Me, meh, I just disintegrated her into a pile of dust in the very last battle before that annoying Drizzt was able to kill her. She is WEAK, do not worry! But iironically worths 90K XP so do not let Drizzt or anybody deal the finishing blow, or you will miss the nice XP!

In normal game, Bodhi's real power is not fighting, it is controlling others, luring and plotting.

I will not enter in Sunnselendar( I think this is the name) without Viconia however

Okay, here's how to revive Viconia (or any romance partner): North of Umar Hills, there's a place called Temple Ruins. It's on the game map. You went there to find Mazzy Fentan and what was going on with the town of Immesvale. Get Viconia's body, Bodhi's heart and those 3 books you found in her lair. Travel to the Temple Ruins, go to the place with the light crystal and go downstairs. (This is easier if you cleared out the dungeon before.)

Remember that room with the letters on the floor? Go across it. I send my character, the PC, with the body, the heart and the books. There is a little room to the left with a statue of a woman with her arms open. You can click on it. Put Viconia's body and the heart inside the statue. Presto! Viconia is revived and will have some dialogue to join the party.
