This is just a doubt which occurred to me recently.

What is the HIGHEST melee damage possible to do in this game by any class OTHER than a fighter on a regular hit?

Regular hit eliminates backstabs, deathbringer assaults, HLAs etc. For example, if I were to buff up and hit something for say...35 damage per hit, then I should be able to consistently do this while I have that buff active.

You'll need to give details regarding the character, weapon and buffs if any obviously...

Just trying to work out the munchkin ideal highest regular damage for a non-kensai lvl 40 weilding Staff of the Ram +6... :p

Swashbuckler with greater than 20 strength will have the highest. Using staff of the ram +6 you get 18 damage average with a max of 22.

A level 40 cleric casting righteous magic will buff up to a 25 strength and do max damage every hit -- this gives 38 points of damage (with gauntlets of weapon expertise). You did say regular hit so I guess Harm is out.

A level 40 swashbuckler will get +9 to hit and damage as a class skill. Do average damage (18 damage), be specialized in the weapon (+2 damage) and be able to use the gauntlets of weapon expertise or extraordinary specialization (if you allow Use Any Item) -- this comes to an average hit of 31 points of damage. So a strength of 20 or more will put the swashbuckler over the top (easy to obtain with all the strength bonuses given out during the BG saga, or with any of the belts).

Swashbuckler with strength of 20 will do 39 points of damage per hit (and may get an additional hit per round).
21 strength will do 40 damage average
22 strength will do 41 damage average
23 strength will do 42 damage average
I'm not sure how you would regularly get higher than 23 strength (other than PoSGS), but you could do 44 or 46 points of damage per hit with a 24 or 25 strength respectively.

I'd have to check to see if there are any other damage increasing items to bump this up.

IMHO 2 are the non fighters-characters that can do the highest damage in the game (I assume that both of them will be using the belt of Fire Giant STR + the Guantlets of weapon expertise):

1) A Priest of Lathander dualled to mage at level 9.
Buffs that affect damage :

- Bless,Chant,Aid,Righteous Magic,Boon of Lathander from his cleric class
- Then a Tenser's transformation

He will use the FoA +5 that does more damage than the staff of the Ram +6

2)T2Bruno is right for the Swashbuckler.
But if dualled in cleric at level 20 he will do more damage using the above cleric buffs (except from the Boon).I don't know if he can do more damage with the Staff of the Ram +6 since he can be specialized in staves but not in flails...

Note : If the cleric-mage cast the cleric buffs and then casts a Black Blade of Disaster+ Tenser's transf. he will do MUCH more damage than the Swash.-cleric ;)

I belive the iron golem (shapechange form ) deals the most damage , a Priest of Lathander/Mage with righteous magic and shapechange iron golem +other buffs should do at least 60+ damage .

@Incarnate: WOW!! That never ocurred to me! I'm going to go try this out today, as well as the BBoD trick thetruth mentioned.

Now, I know this thread was a good idea, since I had no idea about any of these! :D

@ Incarnate

:thumb: You are right.I forgot that. The iron golem form + cleric buffs can do more damage.

So second place for the Black Blade of Disaster + buffs.

@ Faraaz

What do you mean about the BBoD and TT?? More than SotR +6? How so? In my experience BBoD is the most damaging weapon in the game.Try it.
Although I can't explain why it does so much damage. If anyone knows...(ehm...Felinoid :hmm: )

The most damaging combo I have ever seen is an Assassin dualed to mage at level 21 and with T.Transf.+ BBoD + the best equipment can do some incredible damage with his backstabs.

Also I repeat that my cleric does more damage with the Flail of the Ages +5 than with the Staff of the Ram +6...

SotR does 13-18 damage before STR or proficiency (AVG 15.5), BBoD does 2-24 damage before STR or proficiency (AVG 13), FoA +5 does 7-12 damage + 10 elemental damage before STR or proficiency (AVG 9.5 + 10). If Baldurdash adds in the missing piercing damage that the description of the SotR talks about, it goes up to 14-22 (AVG 18). One must also factor in that BBoD puts you up to grandmastery (*****) in long swords so long as you hold it. Normally this means +4 damage, but with True Grandmastery it's +5 and even more attacks.

Final numbers (for non-warriors):
BBoD w/ TG - 18 damage * 2 = 36
BBoD - 17 damage * 1.5 = 25.5
FoA - 9.5 + 10 = 19.5
SotR - 18

(Note: I am not 100% sure about BBoD's base damage, as when I looked at the referenced item file "BLAKBLAD" with Infinity Explorer, it gave me BS like you see in the Harm spell. So I took the damage instead from the spell's description. For reference, Harm's damage is listed as 2560d17 (2,560-43,520), and BBoD's damage is listed as 2562d18 (2,562-46,116).)
