View Full Version : Dual Class
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 3:02pm ok here is the deal:
i got at the moment an lvl 24 assasin and i was thinking abgout duelclassing him
i was thinking about duelclassing him into an cleric but.....
when i choose the duel class option i fould out i can also duelclass him into an fighter
and thats my point should i make him a fighter/assa or an cleric/assa
i thought cleric cause of the lvl 7 spells are a nice help
and i thought fighter for the more fighting part....
help me out i would say... :)

Vandred Wed, 19th May '04, 3:30pm Well depends what his stats and armaments are. If he's a close quarters guy go with a fighter.
If you want him at the back shooting at things, make him a cleric so he can stand back, cast a few spells and then start shooting.
Serpent Wed, 19th May '04, 3:31pm lvl 24? i think it's not a good idea to start dualclassing now, way too late for that, methinks, unless you have the XP cap remover and you plan to cheat...
btw, dualling a thief into a cleric is a bad idea... clerics cannot use bladed weapons but you'll need those to backstab, though there are some other possibilities (with 'use any item' ability or staff of ram)
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 3:35pm he is:
18 str 18 dex 18 con 18 wis 12 char 2 int :o
i duel him at lvl 24 because he got use all items now so that i got not a single problem with items cause i can wear whatever i want
and i dont use range weapons cause i am to low on fighters else
so should i get fighter for damage so my bs gets increadible high damage or keep high damage with my bs(allready got 200+damage)
and being able to cast spells later on
Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Wed, 19th May '04, 6:20pm First of all, it's dual class, not duel class - you aren't fighting yourself.
I have to agree that I think it is a very bad idea to dual class at level 24. You already have a little over 3 million XP. To get to level 25 cleric, and reactivate your thief abilities, you are going to need 3.8 million more XP. For fighters, it's even worse - you're going to need 4.25 million more XP. So, either way, we're talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 million XP to get your thief skills back, and chances are you are going to finish the game before that happens.
If you must go against better judgement and dual class anyway, I'd say go for the fighter, so you can keep all of your thief weapons. Also, you will be hitting much more because you'll be able to place multiple proficiency points in weapons now.
Out of curiousity, why did you wait to get UAI ability if you were planning on dual classing to a fighter or cleric anyway? Both classes would have given you the ability to wear armor and expanded your weapon potential. Other than the ability to use some wands and scrolls, what did you gain by getting UAI? Assassins hit their maximum backstab of X7 at level 18 - a much more doable level to dual class at. You would have been just as effective as a fighter, and you would need about 3 million fewer XP to reactivate your old class (level 18 thief = about 1.7 million XP, level 19 fighter = about 2.75 million XP, so a total of about 4.5 million XP instead of 7.25 million XP.
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 6:37pm wel lets say it this way
i used shadow keeper to take a look at what i gain if i get that lvl
and i think i take a cleric i assume u wanna know why
first of all its not that my char gets more attacks natural or my saving throws get better but.....
i can use cleric spells like armor of faith for less damage
i can increase my str with rightious magic
then i can use the spells like improved haste (i keep them )
and.....
black blade of disaster(also bought these if i had the oppertunity)
and i got some tansfers transformations left....
i hope u know where i am heading to :p
because i am an assasin i got a 7 times multiplier and if i use improved haste and rightious magic (gives me 25 str) then also use black blade of disaster and when nesicarily tensers transformation i deal a LOT of damage in my backstabs
allready saw a 200+ and if i also get the better equip out of ToB i get a very nice char with round 250 hp and dealing with normal daamge allready 40s
edit but i think i am getting him to lvl 25 first so i can use the assasination skill or an other useful skill...
and the fact that it takes a lot of xp i know that but its fun playing as a cleric :p and my stats wont get that much worser
Djieff Wed, 19th May '04, 7:08pm I'm not sure you realise what dual-classing really involves: if you dual at thief lvl 24, you will have to wait until you hit cleric (or fighter) lvl 25 before you regain your thief abilities. So unless you cheat, you'll have to go through a HUGE part of the game as a pure cleric, with no thief ability whatsoever. So no UAI, no uber-backstab, no assassination etc. until you reactivate your thief abilities. As Aldeth said, you might very well finish the game before that happens, especially since you're not soloing.
Hope this helps.
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 7:16pm first of all i am not soloing i got a party to back me up
second of all i keep UAI its works the same as constant lose of 1 intel point so i can use whatever i want
and since i didnt had a good cleric anyway this isnt a bad mcve at all i just ahve to play the entire add on as an cleric wel not the entire but most of it cause i allways manage to reach the xp cap but it is a lnog time that is true yes
Djieff Wed, 19th May '04, 8:55pm I know you're not soloing; that's pretty much what I meant by: especially since you're not soloing My point was that your party members will suck xp from you, thus slowing your level advancement.
And I didn't know UAI stayed active when dual-classing, even if the thief class is inactive. Is this also true for all class-specific HLAs?
Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Wed, 19th May '04, 9:00pm Now I'm totally confused. Black Blade of Disaster, Improved Haste and Tenser's Transformation are MAGE spells NOT CLERIC spells. So I really don't see your point now. Sure, UAI gives you the ability to cast them from scrolls, but how is dual classing to a cleric going to help you use these spells? Unless you mean you want to dual class to a mage, but then you're going to need over 5 million XP, which means you'll never get that far in the game. Even if you remove the XP cap, I don't see you getting enough XP to ever get those abilities!
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 9:37pm dual classing to cleric for the spells that boost me and my party
and since the cleric has enough boosting spells it only makes me stronger
and i exported the char so i might as wel go make my char total assasin if i feal like
Death Whisper Fri, 21st May '04, 1:18pm wait until level 25, dual to fighter....who needs a cleric or mage lol
raw power all the way!
