View Full Version : weapons for my party - help needed
Tim Tim Mon, 21st Nov '05, 9:28am I started TOB 2 times in my previous games but I never finished it. Now playing with a chatacter all the way from BG1 I want to finish this properly but with all the weapons and though monsters I'm a bit confused about what should I equip my party with. I'm currently in watcher's keep( level 2) and trying to figure out who should get 2 weapons and who should stick with missiles
my party:
me - multi fighter/thief, right now proficient with longswords, flails, maces and long bows
Jaheira - still with shield and either scimtar or club, thinking on puting a second wepon in her off hand
Sarevok - two handed sword, halberds and crossbows
Haer - don't laugh, I put Crom in his off hand and Celestial Fury ( or whatever the name of that red katana is ) in the main hand
Imoen - staff of Magi and short bow
Nalia - Cutthroat and short bow
any suggestion would be most welcomed :)
Silvershield Mon, 21st Nov '05, 9:54am Hey Timmy!!! I don't really know your style of playing but I'll give you some good advice regarding weapons and different combos!
You - Fighter Thieves are WAY powerful with their backstab, but in order to make it as good as it can be, you should be using at least a +4 weapon, as the damage will be multiplied. I'd take the Angurvadal Sword, found later in Watcher's Keep. You can upgrade it and you get +1 fire damage. You don't seem to have 2 weapon style, so for a ranged weapon I'd probably take Tarlash +4 and then upgrade it. I don't really use longbows, rather shorter ones. Also, you could take up the Flail of Ages whilst backstabbing for some truelly terrible damage!
Jaheira - She becomes quite powerful with her druidic spells later on, but she remains a strong fighter. You could take a club, or I would prefer you keep her with a scimiar because their are some really good ones later on! I'd go for the Spectral Brand from Watcher's Keep, as this sword is just insane and get a nice large shield like The Shield of the Order from Yaga Shura.
Sarevok - Who doesn't love this guy!!! He is pretty much powerful with anything, but if you got tired of using the Silver Sword and the Soul Reaver in SoA, then Gram the Sword of Grief or the Psion's Blade might be to your liking, found in Abagizal's Lair and the Marching Mountains respectively. If you want to use a crossbow, I'd go for Firetooth, which you can get from sister Garlena at Watcher's Keep. This thing deals a nice bita damage and you don't have to worry about ammunition.
Haer'Dalis - Oh I'm laughing!!! The only Bard in the game and totally pathetic ... but don't worry, he's alright, for a blade! Anyway's, if you've given him points in Crom Faeyr than that's great. Keep that and maybe put something like the Answerer (Long Sword +4 found at the Oasis by Gen. Tombelthen), which is a nice little sword that lowers magic resistance and applies an AC penalty too! I don't really like celestial fury in ToB, as there are WAY MORE powerful weapons
Imoen - Staff of the Magi is a good choice here. I suggest you keep that, unless you want to put her into combat for some reason (PLEASE DON'T do that!!!), then you could give her the upgraded Staff of the Ram (Watcher's Keep) which is just insane for damage and the knock back ability! But once again ... you don't want her anywhere near the front lines in ToB! As for her short bow, if you don't like the Gesen Bow, you could go with Tarlash, found in Amkethran or maybe you liked Tansheron's Bow back in SoA, but personally, I'd go with The Gesen Bow, very powerful!!! :D
Nalia - Ah Nalia, why you have another Mage/Thief in your party is anyones' guess (Sorry!) but I'll give you some advice anyway! Firstly, I'd like it if you had maybe Edwin because he's a god damn great spellcaster, or maybe Viconia because no ones beats her cleric abilities i feel. Nonetheless, if she'll be doing the same the job as Imoen, just give her either the Staff of the Magi, or the Staff or the Ram, and either the Gesen Bow or Tarlash or Tansheron's Bow ... basically whatever you don't give to Imoen.
I hope that helped Timmy! Is that all you wanted or did you want all the equipment as well?
Tim Tim Mon, 21st Nov '05, 10:51am thanks a lot Sebastian II
I always liked Nalia, I just can't bring myself to play with evil parties and she's the best good mage in the game. I took Imoen and Sarevok along for the rolepaying reasons
I'll take your advice and put some two weapons proficiencies for my main character, she does around 60 damage right now, she hardly uses her bow anyway
as far as equipment go, I think I have nalia, haer and immy figured out, I'm not too sure about the other 3, my character still has the leather from advenure's mart that grants some nice charm immunity and some fire/acid resistence but I think by now I should move on to something with bigger AC bonus,s o if u care to comment on that as well I would appreciate it
Silvershield Mon, 21st Nov '05, 11:01am Ah yes! I played through the whole of BG2 and the expansion pack with my F/T once ... and played through it again and again because it was soooo fun! Dual wielding Spectral Brand as well as Angurvardal was not only extremely good, were it not coupled with a x5 backstab ... with assassination and greater whirlwind attack!
As for the armour, he started off using leather, Shadow Armour to be precise but then i moved up to bigger and better things - some plate and chain mail when thieving didnt matter for a bit. But I think i ended up using The White Dragon Scale which gives an AC of -2! It also allows the thieves abilities to remain intact as well! I think you get the scales on lv 3 of watcher's keep.
Hope that helps! :D
kuemper Mon, 21st Nov '05, 5:19pm F/T I used had Shadow armor from Mae'var, upgraded to Black dragon scale, then switched to White dragon scale during ToB. Weapons were 2 weapon fighting***, Celestial Fury**, Equalizer**, Axe of Unyielding** and Angurvaydal**. Though the CF gets useless in ToB, it's worth the points in katana for it in SoA. Equalizer was good for the immunities alone.
Jaheira I tend to keep on either a club (Blackblood) or dagger (Boneblade) for SoA and stick her with the Spectral Brand in ToB. Her missile weapon was the Firetooth dagger from the Underdark. Have her wear the Darksteel shield from Sendai's lair and the Gorgon plate or Shruupak's Plate off Yaga Shura.
Sarevok I haven't managed to finagle him in my parties. Give him the best armor (the one that prevents backstabs you get from the smugglers in Amkethran), boots of speed, Firetooth crossbow, Psionics blade and Ravager halberd.
Nalia I would give the Gesen bow or Tarlash's (from Trademeet) and give the other to Imoen. Neither bow requires ammo. ToB has Short Sword of Mask from WK or (better imo) stick Nalia with Staff of the Ram, also from WK.
