I think i read somewhere about a quest where you use the umar witch project journal. is there one. Are there any secret or sneaky quests in umar hills? please let me know.

Umar Hills is where the Ranger stronghold quests are done.

But you must be a ranger to get the umar witch project quest (it's part of the stronghold).

You don't have to be a ranger to read the Umar Witch Project book. They did publish 'several' copies of it, after all. This is one of the funniest parts of the game, in my opinion.

Hmm. I've played a ranger many times and never once found a use for the book, besides comic relief. Is there a for-real quest that goes along with it, and, if so, where/how does it start?

It can be a quest for you, but you won't get the stronghold.
So be a nice paladin and save the poor people ;)

The Umar witch quest is the one with the sorceress in the temple ruins. You don't need the book and she's really not the Umar witch -- but you do get the Moon Dog figurine for completing the quest.

I dont understand. I just killed the shade lord and dragon. now how do i start the quest off? where do i go and who do i talk to?

First, you MUST be a ranger (or cheating),

Second, you don't DO anything -- the quest comes to you as part of the ranger stronghold quests.

Third, once you get the quest (from the Mayor) you simply do as you're told and investigate.

I think I understand now. Just to clarify for anyone who was as confused as I was, the book you receive from the innkeeper in Immsvale does NOTHING, and is NOT required to complete the Shadow Lord quest OR any of the ranger stronghold quests. It is for entertainment purposes only.

The ranger stronghold quests kick off the next time you return to Umar Hills after getting the cabin from the Mayor (I don't know if there is a time delay or not; I BELIEVE you could just leave and come right back and get it). For the next two, the far-travelling Delon will come fetch you.
