View Full Version : Cleric VS Druid Mihai SuperStar Mon, 28th Feb '05, 7:47pm Choose one of this an say why?My main character was a priest of Landfather(Lv 40) and second time was a Totemic Druid(LV 40) both import from Soa to ToB.Have an opinion?Explain please. Newfie Mon, 28th Feb '05, 7:55pm Hey, in SOA you need the cleric for the restoration spell because of all the undead drain attacks. Unless you are going to shell out the dough at the temples each time, clerics are a must in the ealry stages. Druids don't get their due until later on when they become uberpowerful. Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Mon, 28th Feb '05, 8:01pm I take it you have an XP cap disabler? Can druids get anywhere near level 40 without it? Hmmm... must check on this. After hitting 3 million, I know that the level requirements drop off dramatically - something like only 150,000 for a new level, but still at 3 million you are only level 14 or 15, right? Gro'Mul Mon, 28th Feb '05, 8:18pm Depends on the playing style, clerics are more usefull as backup and druids can be better used as an offensive character. I would say Druid, because they become much more powerfull after reaching level 14. Kulyok Mon, 28th Feb '05, 9:15pm I like Clerics better, because of the way they blast undead. :D Nature's Beauty and Greater Elemental Summoning can't outweigh cleric's choice of weapons and spells, IMO. The Magpie Mon, 28th Feb '05, 9:37pm Or, for the best of all possible worlds take a Human Ranger with WIS > 17 and CON > 15 and dual-class to Cleric at level 9. That way you have a tank, and access to all cleric/druid spells! These guys rule; possibly almost as much as FMTs! ;) Blog Mon, 28th Feb '05, 10:23pm Hmm... tough call. In melee, clerics get to wear plate armour, but druids get iron skin and leather armour. Clerics can use hammers, flails and maces, druids get scimitar, spear and darts. I'm not sure how their THAC0 compares though. Versus spellcasters, I think druids have an edge with Insect Plague. Cleric can't do much except cast magic resistance and hack with the flail of ages. Versus undead, cleric dominates. They can turn masses of undead for free too. I think the usefullness of this pushes the cleric slightly ahead of the druid for me. 8people Mon, 28th Feb '05, 11:04pm I like druids. One of my favourite characters was an Avenger Druid, he took along Jaheira and Cernd as well. Shame I couldn't have taken a Totemic druid for the full set :D Clerics are powerful and could be interesting to play more often, I suppose, but I prefer my Druidic PCs to those of the clerical persuasion. :) T2Bruno Mon, 28th Feb '05, 11:55pm I've never used the cleric's turn ability -- it must come from earlier games where turning destroyed the undead without giving any experience. You have two people protected from level drain (IMoD and Amulet) -- that's all I've ever needed. Jaheira was fun to play and a real good tank -- I'd rather have her for firepower then any of the clerics (not so sure about Cernd yet). Thunder Tue, 1st Mar '05, 1:49am Clerics definetly if only for their turn undead ability. Blast liches away at higher levels! And animate dead at level 15+ is awesome. Although the insect plague spells and elemental summonings are powerfull, the standard cleric has more variation to his/her spell selection. Harbourboy Tue, 1st Mar '05, 6:03am I like the IDEA of druids but I agree that clerics generally have an edge over druids. It's a shame that shapeshifting has never been balanced properly (in any game that I am aware of). Ideally, you want shapeshifting that is very useful in only specific tactical situations (e.g. a creature that is only good against Golems or some sort of Nishruu for battling mages or dividing up into a pack of wolves to fight a large group of weaker monsters) rather than the current range of either useless or overpowered forms. Faraaz Tue, 1st Mar '05, 9:14am Clerics get Turn Undead which is UBER useful at higher levels. I turned the Demi-lich in WK into dust once with a lvl 35 Cleric! :D They get Draw Upon Holy Might, Negative Plane Protection, Bolt of Glory, Blade Barrier, Command:Die, Sanctuary, Remove Fear...all very important spells. They also get way more spells to cast than a Druid...a max lvl priest has twice the number of lvl 7 spells that a max lvl druid would. Hence...Clerics are better than Druids. Cúchulainn Tue, 1st Mar '05, 11:13am I agree with HB - the idea of druids are cool, but the cleric is 100's of times more useful. S/He is a great spell caster and fighter (with the correct spells of course) Balle Tue, 1st Mar '05, 11:56am an R/C multiclass is aw very powefull option Deuce Thu, 3rd Mar '05, 8:09pm Note another good Cleric option versus many spellcasters is Holy Smite. Enemy casters can block it with a Minor Globe of Inv., but they seldom use that protection. At ToB levels, Storm of Vengence can really mess up casters. |
