It is about half of the size, and takes a relatively shart time to finish. I think I got through it in about eight hours play time.

Eight hours? That sounds insane. It would take me about 8 weeks, if I went really really quickly and didn't stop to pick up all the treasure. At about 7 hours play a week, that would be over 50 hours of play time at the very least.

I wasn't keeping track but it seems that I remember doing it in two nights of play and that usually means about eight hours. I could be remembering wrong. I'll have to try it again and see how long it takes.

I'd say 8 hours is selling it a bit short, I mean *possible spoiler, sorta* each of the bosses dungeons takes a good hour or two to complete, thats around 10 hours by itself, also watcher keep takes a good chunk-o-time and the hell trials add quite a bit. Also for a first timer it might be a bit hard and take a few retries in some parts.
Theres plently of diologue, so i guess skipping it would take a bit out of it.
All in all its pretty subjective and based on how you play the game, in terms of content I'd probably say it has maybe 1/2 - 1/3 of that in BGII-SoA. Its probably a tad more linear for most of it with the only major side quest being watchers keep (which is pretty big).

I think it's about 40-50 hours for the first time through.
Even more if you use the (semi-official) Ascension mod and the ToB enhancement mods by David Gaider.

As for the time, I think I run through it in about 6 hours, but I guess for a first time run you will probably take a lot longer to play through it. The 30-50 hours mentioned above seem about right for that.

Oops, I did watchers keep before I did ToB, that would add quite a bit of time to how long it took me. I'm also a chronic restarter, so I guess in comparison it seemed like a short time because I didn't restart in ToB.

The Watcher's Keep is the biggest and the best addition of ToB, so once you have done that, you have basically seen almost everything it has to offer. The rest is just about running through some seriously cheating AI enemies and seeing the conclusion. Not really worth the trouble if you dislike cheating and -despite this- have beaten them once or twice already.

So become aquinted with the magical "CTRL+y" combination. ;)

^Ah, please, even if the enemies cheat, it is no fun just CTRL+Ying them, though some are really asking for it! (Oversight Improved Sendai on insane!)

ToB is shorter than SoA as expected, due to it being an expansion. I think it is far too short, as there is little sub-plot and it is pretty straight-forward most of the time. Though it is fun. You will not be dissapointed!

hmmm..got a whole bunch of different answers. i guess it really depends on playing style? My wife and I are much slower at playing these games, so maybe it'll take more time, but we beat Watcher's Keep while we were in shadows of amn...thanks everyone for replying
