View Full Version : A weapon to kill Kangaxx
Dark Slayer Sat, 26th Nov '05, 11:55am I need a +4 or higher weapon to kill Kangaxx the Demi-Lich a.k.a the most annoying floating skull ever.
Are there any to be found?
(DAMN!!! Why did I have to leave Keldorn and sell Carsomyr?!?!?!)
Silverstar Sat, 26th Nov '05, 12:41pm Ribald sells Staff of Rynn+4 a quarrterstaff enchanted enough to hit Kangaxx! Go buy it!
Dark Slayer Sat, 26th Nov '05, 1:11pm All right. Thanks!
starwalker Sat, 26th Nov '05, 1:18pm The Staff of Magi if you have it hits as a +5 weapon. I don't recall if the mace of disruption hits him or not.
Ziad Sat, 26th Nov '05, 2:43pm The Mace of Disruption +2 does hit him (not sure about the un-upgraded version). It's got only +2 THAC0, but its enchantment is +5.
If you've got to chapter 6, then the list of weapons that can harm Kangaxx suddenly skyrockets.
kuemper Sat, 26th Nov '05, 3:32pm Weapons that I personally know will hit Kangaxx the Demi-Lich:
SotM +5
Imp. MoD +2/hits as +5
Flametongue +4 vs. undead
Melf's Minute Meteors hits as +5
Boneblade +4
Staff of Rhynn +4
Carsomyr +5
Crom Faeyr +5
Everard's sling +5
Shrikant Sat, 26th Nov '05, 6:08pm The unimproved Mace of Disruption hits as a +4.
Kangaxx has no protection against elemental damage, so the + 4Halberd you get in the underdark is a good bet.
If you have the Item Upgrade mod, you can make the Celestial Fury +5 in Chapter 2.
kmonster Sat, 26th Nov '05, 9:44pm Any summon (even while using nonmagical weapons)should be able to hurt Kangaxx.
Klorox Sat, 26th Nov '05, 10:46pm That +1/+4 vs. Giants Hammer from the DeArnise Keep hits him too.
Aces Sun, 27th Nov '05, 5:17am SotM +5
Imp. MoD +2/hits as +5
Flametongue +4 vs. undead
Melf's Minute Meteors hits as +5
Boneblade +4
Staff of Rhynn +4
Carsomyr +5
Crom Faeyr +5
Everard's sling +5 Cutthroat +4 works doesn't it?
kuemper Sun, 27th Nov '05, 6:00am It should. This was just the big list of what I tried and succeeded with. I'm fairly sure any +4 or better weapon will hit the Demi-Lich.
Dark Slayer Sun, 27th Nov '05, 7:46am Thanks guys. I killed Kangaxx after using some protection from undead scrolls with the Staff of Rynn and Melf's minute meteors.
Nizidramanii'yt Sun, 27th Nov '05, 10:01pm 4 words:
Ring...of...the...RAM!!!
(if you pocket one you have two + little luck = near dead Kangaxx)
Trust me...
Stu Mon, 28th Nov '05, 11:35am Melfs Minute Meteors also works a treat, provided your mage has decent THAC0
Daystar is also a lifesaver.
Silverstar Mon, 28th Nov '05, 2:33pm MMM suck hard against Kangaxx as mages generally do not have THAC0 enough to hit a floating skull, and if they even manage to hit, Kangaxx regenerates so quickly they can not do any damage virtually. Even 3-4 mages, all hasted and Tenser's transformationed, attacks with MMM, I suspect that they still may not kill Kangaxx. :( And once they run out of MMMs, they can not cast anything and they are horribly screwed unless they have SoM, or Rynn's Staff+4 to whack at the skull for little effect indeed.
PS: [snip], but this is SoA forum so I would rather not mention these. :p [Then don't and save the mods the effort of editing your post :) ] -dmc

CamDawg Tue, 29th Nov '05, 2:20am Daystar doesn't work against Kangaxx unless you have the Consistent +x/+y component from G3 Tweaks installed.
kuemper Tue, 29th Nov '05, 4:16am I only use Daystar for a double whammy of Sunray - one from Anomen and one from the sword.
Coconut_Crab Wed, 30th Nov '05, 8:41pm I summoned a fire elemental and arial servant and put Protection from Magic on them, and I won without doing anything else :)
jA Thu, 1st Dec '05, 12:02am @Silverstar
MMM rulz!
I have killed that annoying skull whit MMM!
I was F/M/T..whit no use any item yet...
Silverstar Thu, 1st Dec '05, 10:17am Oops sorry DMC I didn't mean any trouble! :o
@JA
Well in your F/M/T's hands MMMs may rule but my C/M with 8 DEX and 8 STR and a lousy THAC0 to begin with just could not hit a simple flying skull most of the time. :p
Tardazor Sat, 3rd Dec '05, 12:14am Minsc + WarBlade (Two handed Sword +4, you can get it with Ribald) + Protection of Magic = DemiLich a la Rashemen
Incarnate Sat, 3rd Dec '05, 12:27am Melf's Minute Meteors hit as +5 and it works to kill Kangaxx , you only need 4-5 Melf's Minute Meteors spells and 3 or 4 Spell Immunity and if you want 1 or two Improved Haste spells ,1 extra mage is not really necessary but it speeds the process

Stu Wed, 7th Dec '05, 9:27am @Silverstar - its the only ranged weapon that a mage can use to hit Kangax. Its better to have them do something when not casting breach - even if it only hits once, that is one less hit that your fighters need to do and one less spell that kangaxx will be able to unleash. Every bit helps.
Silverstar Wed, 7th Dec '05, 3:18pm Well I agree that MMMs are only-way a mageling can do something useful against Kangaxx, (shame for sorcerers who do not have it, hope they have spare scrolls around) but I still do not believe that it will be enough alone to kill him. Distraction is useful though. A mage can make himself immune to Kangaxx via Spell Immunity:Abjuration and Deathward (courtesy of a priest, will SI:Necromancy work against the howl?) but will have troubles to kill him actually.
Incarnate Wed, 7th Dec '05, 3:42pm I killed Kangaxx with MMMs at least 15 times and is the second best way I know to kill him after using the Staff of Power to stun him non stop.
Silverstar Wed, 7th Dec '05, 5:05pm Can Staff of Power stun him? Then..then it is a pretty fearsome weapon for the most evil magi! :(
HairySun Thu, 8th Dec '05, 7:11am I just killed him using edwin with staff of the magi and protection from magic scroll and my main fighter/theif with the +5 sling (that doesn't need bullets) that you get from one of the added merchants (both hasted of course) ohh and a ring of the ram to blast him into a few traps i laid, I was quite proud of my resourcefulness :)
Bombur Tue, 20th Dec '05, 4:20am If you have a mind control circlet, you can charm him and then make him imprison himself. I think I recall one time imprisoning him in this fashion and collecting experience, setting some traps, casting freedom, and collecting experience again when the traps killed him. But that was some time ago, so my memory might be faulty.
Also, protection from undead works just as well as protection from magic. You might also consider a simple spell immunity: abjuration.
PrincessSuzie Wed, 28th Dec '05, 1:38pm I've always wanted to ask. how do I upgrade Mace of Disruption?
kuemper Wed, 28th Dec '05, 3:07pm Slight Spoilers!
Take the real illithium you get from Neb the child killer (during the Sir Sarles quest) and the Mace of Disruption to Cromwell in the Docks. Talk to him and he'll mention something about using the metal.
Shrikant Wed, 28th Dec '05, 3:17pm If you take the MoD+1 to Cromwell, he tells you he can upgrade it with Illethium.
And there is a cheese to get the illethium from Sir Sarles. Search the Boards for it, I won't spoil without being asked :p
Klorox Thu, 29th Dec '05, 12:41am Hey Shrikant, care to explain how to cheese the Illithium from Sir Sarles? ;)
Shrikant Thu, 29th Dec '05, 7:08am You need A casting of Protection from Evil 10'. Scroll of Summon Dijinni/ Efreeti or Gate (since you would generally be too low level to cast the spell from memory). And you get the satisfaction of killing one of the more irritating charecters in the game without loss of Rep along with XP for killing the uncontrollable Demon.
You could try pickpocketing him but thats just too boring.
P.S. Another person where I use that on: Nalia's Aunt. :flaming: Die *****! Die! :grr:
EDIT: Stupid me forgetting that Hakeashar were no more than souped up Nishruu that couldn't kill a thing :bang:

PrincessSuzie Thu, 29th Dec '05, 10:39am cool thanx guys :D
Minh So Thu, 29th Dec '05, 4:43pm *goes to Nalia's house, summons an upgraded pit fiend, runs, closes the door* :shake:
Shrikant, thank you, now there's truly nothing left with fighter stronghold.
The mad haggis Mon, 16th Jan '06, 11:28am I generally just turn into the slayer. He's dead (well deader) in less than a minute. Can easily live with the reputation loss as I just go back up a few good deeds later.
