View Full Version : Fun with invisibility/stealth

I've had fun with Invisibility 10', which I only used to escape Ust Natha.

While playing evil, I had Jan memorize all his 2nd level spell slots as Invis. 10' and turned off the AI to keep people from breaking the spell. We got into the undead tombs, did Korgan and Edwin's quests and got out without any problem. That's not really the big deal, though. While the party was invis., we got the ambush by the scripted ambushers, but since they couldn't see us we got the drop on them!  I was able to back away and use Edwin as a fireball catapult. I even managed to keep Rylock (poisoned man) alive while bombarding the hell out of his muggers. Too sweet! :thumb:

And to see if invis. would work with Gaelyn Bayle, I tried with a mage (invisible) and a cleric (sanctuaried). Gaelyn sees you anyway, so no way to avoid him afaik. :bad:

Just now, I used my stalker in stealth mode to see if I could get the shriveled hand in the sewers under the CC *and* avoid fighting the otyugh and jellies. Stealth (110) went fine, but she got hurt and I thought the stealth would end. Nope. She managed to keep quiet long enough to get the hand and get out.

This is what happens when you only have Arbane's sword as a magical weapon. :D

That's interesting, but wouldn't it be just easier to chop all those sorry monsters and hostiles to pieces? :)

Yeah, you can get away with some ridiculous stuff with Invis/Stealth. I always have a character with some decent stealth skills in my party to fuel my backstab addiction (Jan suffices if Yoshi is unavailable ;) ), and you can pull of some superbly-impossible-in-RL feats. My personal favourite is mending the shards of glass by the Umar Hills Shadow Dungeon (where Anath gets amubushed). My PC Stalker just stood "Hidden in Shadows" whilst the entire area was supposedly filling with light strong enough to kibble undead Shadows! :shake:

Another good trick is "multi-stabbing" (A.K.A. 2 deaths for the price of 1!) where you backstab a non-hostile enemy with friends (e.g. Mencar and cronies). If you're quick enough, you can hit the Stealth button and hide again before their AI kicks in and they go hostile. Usually, I can nail both the wizard and Brennan Risling before anyone really knows what's going on...

Ultimately, only combat cancels Invisibility or Sanctuary. For Stealth, combat, using thieving skills and opening containers or doors (or area transitions, if your stealthed party member is the one who reaches the transition first) will reveal your character. Beyond that, the world is you oyster. ;)

Stalker stealth+boots of speed+backstab helped with clearing out Bodhi's lair in Chapter 3. I used Valygar then and felt soooo justified by backstabbing Tamova to re-death. Hide, stab, run, repeat until chunkified.

@Goli - I didn't have any +2 or better weapons to fight the jellies with.

I thought Arbanes was +2? maybe I'm confusing it with another though.

I thought Arbanes was +2? Yes, but it's a short sword, meaning piercing damage...which jellies are immune to.

How 'bout this: I had no one in party who was able to use Arbane's.
