I'm about halfway through the Underdark with my F/M/T solo and finding that I'm kicking too much a**, if you can believe that. Dual-wielding Celestial Fury (or FoA for blunt damage) and Scarlet Ninja-To is all I need to do, and my spells are going to waste now that I finally have the really great ones. Now I've determined to buckle down and use spells when I don't need to, but it got me wondering:

What is the most worthless character to solo? I'm looking for the uber-crappiest, need to use every ability and strategy (not exploit) just to keep them alive, ultimate difficulty solo.

By the standard rules a cleric or druid with low wisdom recieves a spell chance failure. Maby a standard cleric with low strength and wisdom could be very tough. Inability to wear good armor till you find str. equipment and spell chance failure at all times. You will never know when a spell will be a dud. That would be tough. Funny I love clerics too!

hehe Fel :p

Well, something in the lines of a True Class bard might be just the crap your looking for. An Assasin could also be interesting.

Uhh... Surely it's the vanilla fighter (or Wizard Slayer, if you're really masochistic). thetruth managed to solo through BG2 with all the improved battles mods with a plain fighter, but it wasn't easy. I have to admit, I was one of the people who thought it was likely impossible!

Check out the thread here: An impossible solo? (http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/10/4058.html#000000)

^If you think game is very easy install Improved Battles and Tactics mods (ALL COMPONENTS!!!) then play on INSANE difficulty for increased fun! Or have you installed them already? (and thinks it is still easy solo-wise :o )

ANYWAY get a relatively weak character, like a vanilla thief or fighter. (NO dual-classing OR kits to add favour)

What is the most worthless character to solo?Fighter with minium stats. And fighters in general since all fighters have are melee and range and nothing more so you'll have to run through all the traps, attemp to break all the locks and you don't have alot of healing.

I agree with olimikrig.

Solo assassin is simple to play in soa, but impossible in tob. You can't backstab half the enemies because they follow you around even when hidden. Very frustrating!

Assassin is pathetically easy to play. With Greater Evasion, Assassination, UAI, and specialty traps, even ToB would be a cakewalk. Thief HLAs are way overpowered; Kangaxx the Demi-Lich lasted all of 2 seconds against my F/M/T (and most of that was involuntary movement from RotR). Ring of the Ram into a Spike Trap and he never even got off the first Imprisonment.

Beastmaster might be worth a shot, though. :hmm:

IMO soloing the original game (without mods installed) is easy with every class, even playing on insane difficulty, for an experienced player.

With mods installed (Tactics, Improved battles, Ascension) the game becomes difficult for every class.Anyway I am sure that most classes can still finish the game.

Very challenging and hard solos would be: (IMHO more difficult than the pure fighter I have played)

a)Wizard Slayer : - No magical items like (ring of Gaxx,Vhailor's helm ...), - Impossibility to hide from enemy (no rings of air control or potions of invisibility), - No potions (except from the healing potions) makes it maybe the hardest solo.

b)Kensai : the lack of armor is a serious disadvantage for a melee-type fighter.
Arrows of dispelling could help a lot but a kensai cannot use bows.
Impossibility to use Vhailor's helm and shield of reflection is very bad too.

It would be close to impossible defeat Improved Ilych with a solo Kensai, as well as the battles where shield of reflection is needed.

BUT if someone plays the kensai like an archer (using throwing daggers-axes, dagger Firetooth comes in mind) will have a very powerful character and many chances to finish the game.

c)Beastmaster : - No metal weapons means no Flail of the Ages,
he can still have elemental damage from the club Blackblood, armor of faith can help a lot but I am not sure if a Beastmaster can win the very final battle of ToB.

d)I don't know also if some specialist mages can do it.
Like Transmuter : no Protection from m. weapons, pierce, breach, etc.
or Abjurer : no timestop, stoneskin.

Soloing that game sounds impossible to me. But if you really are some sort of genius who can do anything, then just give any character crappy stats. Surely it would be pretty difficult to win if your character had all the wrong stats for its class. The problem with BGII is that it is so restrictive as to what classes / races you can use.

If you play a 3rd edition game like IWD2 or NWN, then you have more freedom to create the world's crappiest character (like a half orc Sorcerer / Wizard / Bard with low CHA and INT)

By the standard rules a cleric or druid with low wisdom recieves a spell chance failure. This isn't implemented into the game; the manual lies.

Yup, as I found out with my SKed S3 D3 C3 I3 W9 Ch3 cleric solo. Tho, interestingly, there's an Int requirement to reading cleric scrolls or using cleric wands... Low stats really aren't much of a problem once you get the right items...

I'm about to start an underpowered solo class of my own, but I don't know which to choose (I'd actually like to choose the more powerful of the two, and need your advice!).

I plan on soloing an Elven Ranger with either the Stalker or Archer kit. Why is this underpowered? Because I plan on using the minimum stats possible for an Elf Ranger (which are the highest of any class/race combination, IIRC).

So, which is better, a Stalker or an Archer?

ON EDIT: I've decided to start a poll on this. I wanted to delete this post, but can't do it. Sorry!
