View Full Version : What are the reputation limits for different alignments?
Blue Sat, 4th Aug '01, 3:32pm ... When I reach rep 19 or 20, Yoshimo starts complaining that he hopes these setbacks are only temporary. He's neutral - what rep do neutrals prefer?
... With an average rep, I tried have Yoshimo pickpocket some peasants on the street, he was caught, and everybody turned hostile. My group started killing everybody, and then my rep fell to 1 (despised). Minsc and Aerie (good)left immediately, just dropped their gear and were gone. Yoshimo, Anomen and Jaheira (neutrals) immediately wanted to leave too, but at least gave me the option of hiring them again until I could reach a temple to raise my rep.
What are limits for good and neutrals to stay in group? Or to start complaining?
... With Viconia in my group I reached rep 19, and she just dropped her gear and left... what's the limit for evil characters to stay or start complaining?
... Are there any consequenses for your main character if you created him with another alignment than matches with your rep? Can you play without problems with a lawful good or chaotic evil main character with your rep in the other end of the scale ... or does he have a mind of his own too? (I'm not thinking about reactions from NPC's, higher prices in shops etc, but problems with the main character himself.)
...What are the lowest/highest rep you can get?
Wildfire Sat, 4th Aug '01, 3:43pm Ok - For Good:
They will leave the party at 2 or less reputation.
They will complain at 8 or less, but not do anything about it (Until reaching 2).
For Neutral:
They will leave the party at 1 reputation. reputation.
They will complain at 5 or less, and at 19 or more but not do anything about it(Until reaching 1).
For Evil:
They will leave the party at 19 reputation or more.
They will complain at 13 or more, but not do anything about it (Until reaching 19).
For more detail, Look at the manaul P133.
Your Main Character can have any reputation he likes, regardless of alignment.
The max Reputation is 20, and the minimum is 1.

shadow_thief Sat, 4th Aug '01, 4:49pm Why don't you just read the manual, instead of posting a topic on it? It's not like it's difficult to find the table.
Blue Sat, 4th Aug '01, 5:50pm Maybe I asked because I've mislaid my manual and can't find it... ever thought about that, Shadow Thief? Don't diss people for asking things that may be in the manual... sometimes things aren't explained very well there.
I've read the manual though, several times, but haven't understood everything, and don't remember everything either. Not to mention that, English not being my first language, not everything is so easy to understand. Like for example, what the h*** is lore? It's a word I've only seen in adventure games, and I haven't got a clue... and didn't understand at all what the manual said about it.
Blackthorne TA Sat, 4th Aug '01, 5:56pm Lore is essentially knowledge. In the BG games, your score in lore determines whether you can identify that magic item you just found without resorting to a divination spell.
shadow_thief Sat, 4th Aug '01, 6:51pm Oh sorry, didn't know that. English is not sopposed to be my first language either, but I kinda never really learned Vietnamese so English is all I have besides French. Anyways, since you misplaced your manual, I will put the pages down for you.

Blue Sun, 5th Aug '01, 5:19am Thanks for posting the tables, Shadow Thief. I didn't mean to be rude to you. But being fairly new to role playing games (I've only played Icewind Dale before), there were many things in the manual I didn't understand (before I lost it), because I haven't played the old Dungeons&Dragons games. For example all the tables and stuff about rolls and points etc without any further explanations, could just as well have been written in Chinese ... which I don't understand either... The manual is clearly intended for those who already know a lot about D&D games. So please bear with me if I should ask about things that may seem obvious to you or others... I'm just not that experienced yet.
Marmeille Sun, 5th Aug '01, 7:21am There's a misprint in the manual in the table Upgrading Reputation in a Temple, the cost to increase the rep at 13 should read 1200 instead of 200 and to increase the rep at 14 should read 1500 instead of 500.
I tried it in game, so I'm pretty sure that's accurate.
Tiamat Sun, 5th Aug '01, 10:45am Here's a good one: I uses Shadowkeeper to get the Helmet of Opposite Alignment onto Viconia. Then got my reputation high (but not over 19, just in case). Instead of saying "surface dwellers can be so stupid", she said "this is a most ... satisfactory development". And her alignment had changed to Neutral Good. I don't think they'll leave your party if you do this, and go over reputation 18. (I eventually did.)
shadow_thief Mon, 6th Aug '01, 1:04am Tiamat, since you have only posted about 100 posts, I will say to you: I am an expirienced SK user. I have been here for a while. This is the message:
There is only a few of us who actually apreciates SK remarks, such as you did yourself. And remember, Blue is chinese and she is new to this so to say and that since her first language is chinese, she does not understand everything, and she might get confused of what SK is.(Blue: SK is a BG2 moderater that people use. Others know is as ShadowKeeper)

Blue Tue, 7th Aug '01, 12:30am Shadow Thief - thanks for defending me.... but I thing you misunderstood a tiny detail though... I'm not Chinese ;)
I said in my post that "the rules could just as well have been written in Chinese, which I don't understand either".... I used that sentence to illustrate my difficulties in understanding all the rules, because Chinese is as far from my language as it could get.... ;)
Actually, I'm Norwegian ... says so in my info :)

shadow_thief Tue, 7th Aug '01, 1:38pm Oh sorry, Blue. You know I'm 11 and all and everything that everybody says isn't crystal clear to me. Ah well...someday I'll understand.
