View Full Version : Improved TorGal
mexican Thu, 29th Dec '05, 6:50am The other topics that came up in the search don't really address my problem. I don't so much want tactics as to know if TorGal is supossed to be as blatantly obnoxious as he is when Improved. Of the things I've noted that have ruined all of my plans thus far:
1) TorGal can see and pummel chars with Sanctuary or Invis.
2) TorGal is immune to hold. He'll have the icon for a held person above his head, but he still moves none the slower.
3) Well, this hasn't happened with TorGal since doors in the basement seem to open whenever closed (a non-sensical fix to open/close cheese if done purposefully), I'd assume that he, like all the Spirit Trolls I've faced, can teleport through doors.
4) Immune to Fear spells. The text will state that TorGal is panicked, feared, etc. but he still fights on.
Is that how it's supposed to be or is my suffering perhaps due to mods not playing nice?
[edit] Gotta throw this badboy in here to express this battle: :bang:

Minh So Thu, 29th Dec '05, 8:54am Yeah, I hated that thing too >__>
Now I cannot grab the flail of ages right away
1. Yes, as do many other creatures come with the mod (Mindflayers can even go into invisible ._.) Funny though, if you ctrl-R him, he looses the ability to see invisible, i'm not sure how to counteract this, dispel didn't work.
2. He immunes to many things because the first turn he has Enrage and Babarian rage on.
But he doesn't immune to blindness (heh, now I'm quite fond of this spell, no save bonus, 10 turns duration, no hit dice restriction, that's how a few minor-skeletons became so troublesome with this mod :shake: ). And with a lil luck you might instantly kill him with a Chromatic orb too, his save vs spell is 7, which is nowhere heroic :) )
PS : note that your true-sight can dispel blindness, Power word : blind works fine (becaue it belongs to Conjuration school not Illusion ?)
Silverstar Thu, 29th Dec '05, 3:41pm What about his heavy army of guards, all those yuanti mages, umber hulks, spirit trolls, drive me crazy!
Best strategy:
Cast Farsight to notice the crowd (so that you won't feel cheesy) then unleash 4 or more webs, along with a few entangles. A Greater Malison really helps.
Then, cast Slow and hope for Torgal to be affected, he is %50 likely to make his saving throw but he also has MR and this can be tricky. If you slow him, you half-won the battle as his abnormal regeneration rate will be cut in half!
Then...starts the fun part. Bombard the area with everything you got! Hurl fireballs, ice storms, Holy Smites, and even use wands of Cloudkill&Fire. The huge army will die FAST, and hopefully Torgal will follow.
BTW HOW can you cast spells directly on him? He is constatnly invisible, VERY tough and fast, has an insane regeneration, drains STR per hit, and MAYBE teleports around. There fore you can't target him with blindness and chromatic orb. (AND even if you could, chromatic orb offers a save vs spells with +6, which will make Torgal's save 1, a %100 save, so sorry no chance, no dice...)
mexican Thu, 29th Dec '05, 3:50pm Ah, thanks for the reply. I figured if it was intentional that the messages would say he was immune or something.
TorGal's only fallacy seems that he "attacks only one" (for anyone that's seen Attack the Gas Station, great movie if you haven't). So I think that if I have person X activate TorGal then run him behind the door and have person Y block it, he might not attack Y in his blind rage to kill X. I'll have to try that out 'cuz I need time to cast Detect Invis so I can cast spells on him.
Wordplay Thu, 29th Dec '05, 4:16pm That's Tactics for you; whack harder or CTRL-Y it. Unless, of course, he is immune to that too. :shake:
mexican Thu, 29th Dec '05, 4:18pm Yay! My strat worked! Just like I stated, if you have one person activate TorGal's quotes then walk him/her behind the door and block it with someone else, TorGal will just stand around in front of the door 'cuz he can't attack that one person. Then I made him visible with Detect Invis (2nd level mage), vulnerable with Lower Resistance, more vulnerable with Greater Maliso, then I petridied him with Chromatic Orb. And to think I wasted many many hours before.

To get rid of the rest of his guys I was kinda cheesy. ;) I cast Clairvoyance from a scroll I had and then walked my Sorc and Mage part way in and pelted them with Fireballs without activating TorGal. Then lured the spirit trolls that attacked back to the other room to take 'em out. Then I rested and continued the Fireball assault until only TorGal remained.
Like I stated above, you can make TorGal visible to cast spells on him by casting Detect Invisibility. Very useful for De'Arnise keep, though I didn't realize it until only I was brainstorming on TorGal.
Minh So Thu, 29th Dec '05, 4:29pm I soloed so I woulnd't know about that. But he surely didn't care about my minions ._.
And no, the game ain't supposed to say "sorry mate, this guy immunes to slow, ect..." in the first place :shake:
@ Silverstar :
- It's kindof embarassed but I always face him invisible and lure him away from his lackeys :o Sometime yuantimages do follow but Immunity-divination + improved invisible will shut them up good.
- He isn't constantly invisible, he just starts with improved invisible. Beside power word : blind is Area effect spell with no save, he has only 30% magic resistance.
- He has a ring of free action.
- save vs spell 7 is quite lousy, greater malison brings it to 11 (err... I think everyone has this spell in SoA), so chromatic orb has 25% chance of killing him and I have 6 to waste, heh now if someone nice enough to throw in a doom...
Edit : oops, I'm late ._.
Btw, did his loot shatter to a pile of rock too ? That's quite a shame ._~

Silverstar Thu, 29th Dec '05, 5:10pm Well I DID webbed him I am %100 sure of it. Because he talked, and tried to attack party, but was constantly webbed and thus couldn't reach us, and died....
AAAH so Detect Inv. makes spirit trolls visible permanently? I didn't know that! I always though their inv. was their special ability and thus can never be dispelled! :shame:
mexican Thu, 29th Dec '05, 6:34pm Oh, whoops. I shattered all but the cold head of Flail of Ages. Should've thought about that. :)
Silverstar Thu, 29th Dec '05, 7:12pm He doesn't have much important loots except the cold head; a lot of gems, some scrolls IIRC.

Minh So Fri, 30th Dec '05, 4:25pm I got his claws : drain strength or slow target on hit, not sure which mod does it come from :)
Caradhras Fri, 30th Dec '05, 6:22pm Tactics.
Silverstar Fri, 30th Dec '05, 8:42pm Ah yes I forgot as I never use it, sure it is spiffy though, it's base damage is 2d6 right? And it was +3?
Keldan Tue, 10th Jan '06, 3:27am Here's what I did after a failed effort. I had everybody buffed up obviously. I then summoned the spider and the beserker and sent them into the be slaughtered. While they were running in, I had imoen use her spell trigger, three fireballs, I had my PC (f/m) use his simulacrum to shoot of another fireball, I had aerie cast detect invis. After all of the explosions, the only things still standing were torgal, the two mages, and one spirit troll. The mages are quite weak so I concentrated on melf's arrowing the trolls to death and killing torgal, then I worried about them. Mass firebal explosions worked wonders.
edit: I might have had a horrid wilting as well, I waited until quite a bit later, but the fight was still difficult. I can't really imagine how it would be done early aside from fireballs everywhere.
Shaitan Tue, 10th Jan '06, 7:36pm It could be done. Lure TorGal out of the end room, make him run around using a potion of haste, and the while he's running after one person, just hit and continue until his death
