When playing a multiclassed Cleric/Thief, and getting the Use Any Item ability, will you be allowed to use swords? This is normally unallowed by the rules of the game, why I'm asking.
Also can you put proficency points into swords once you get this ability?

The thing with Use Any Item ability is that it overrides standard game rules, allowing the Thief to carry any item. Such as the Carsomyr, Full Plate Armour etc.
So yes, you can allow your Thief/Cleric to wield any sword, just don't expect him to be good with anything except Short Swords. :D
Hope that answers it.

Yep, Clerics can use swords with Thief UAI, as already stated.

Yes, Happy New Year :) . Thanks for the straight answer to a straight question, sometimes they are hard to find...
I've always wanted to use a sword on a cleric. I remember when I downloaded the experience cap remover in BG1 just to get my paladin priest spells, seemed so cool back then :D .
