I was hoping you all could provide some technical assistance. I am progressing through SOA with the TOB installed and the Kelsey mod installed. I am getting a new computer and want to transfer the existing game to my new machine. I realize that I will need to install SOA,TOB and the Kelsey mod again. But what directories and other files need to be moved to make the game work? Many thanks,

Palanthas

Ok After you have installed the base of the game and Kelsey you will need to move the save game directory(folder) inside the BG2 directory you can move ether the entire save folder or just the one for the game you want to keep.
other things you may need to copy are sounds folder and the portraits folder if you have installed any costome pictures of sound.

And don't forget the override folder.

In fact if you can you might as well copy everything over, just to be on the safe side.

I had no luck transfering files when I got my new PC last year.
I had to start every game I had going from the begining.
Only BG1(50%done) and AoE2(AoK)(25%done) at the time thankfully.

My old PC had no RW-CD.
How much can you save on a floppy? 1.44MB? :(

Edit:
I should have gave some advice... :p
If you are close to finishing then save the old PC for a bit and finish.
Or start fresh if you aren't too far. ;)

But, well, savegames for Baldur's Gate shouldn't be bigger than 1 mB... And after all, you can use one good and nice archiver to make the game few kB... My savegames for BG 1 were 700 kB... After little crumpling them, they were 350 KB... I don't know what type of files should BG 2 savegames be, so you have some problems with them... Ahem...

Thank you all so much for the input. It just seems like there is so much to consider since I am well into my current campaign. Is there any data that you know of that would not be in the SOA directory? Many thanks.

Just install the game on the new computer and copy all the files in the old system's C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate 2 directory or whatever your install path is over what you have on the new one overwriting all. Subtle as a nuke.

I've got to try that now. It's weird, I copied all the files from IWD2 and it works on my new computer but BG2 doesn't... I'll have to instal the game the old fashioned way I guess.

I copied the files onto an e-mail, sent them to myself and everything worked fine.

I've done this three or four times. I installed everything including mods fresh, then just copied the BG2 files vis USB Memory stick or Portable HD and it worked fine.

You might want to try just copying the save-game folders before the entire BG2 folder though too.
