View Full Version : Using kits in dual classing.
Khazraj Thu, 8th Aug '02, 11:06am I have wondered what other players may have done with using a kit for their first class and then combining it with a second class. (This is of course for humans only).
What have players found to be fun combinations, useful combinations or just plain mistakes.
I have tried to make a Wizardslayer thief and it fails in my eyes since the magic resistance was lowered to 1% per level with TOB. Sadness.
I had a lot of fun doing a Beserker Druid. It was a great way of enhancing a fairly combat weak class.
I also first finished the TOB saga with a dual classed vanilla thief mage but I was so disappointed to get only mage HLA's.
What have other players done, tried, opinions? Please state your case and explain how it went!
Parvini Thu, 8th Aug '02, 1:07pm I had a Preist of Talos/ Mage, dualled at level 14.
He could cast every spell in the game. But was limited to two level 7 cleric spells (with Symbol of Talos equipped).
Rastor Thu, 8th Aug '02, 5:57pm Hmm, well, there was my infamous Kensai/Mage. With timestop + melee, I was basically unstoppable. This wasn't really much fun though, as being such a powerhouse made every fight so darned easy.
I had a wizardslayer/mage. This was interesting to try to roleplay. He hated wizards, but was one himself.
Multi-classed mage/druid was kind of fun, having access to every spell in the game.
Ragusa Thu, 8th Aug '02, 10:08pm Oh well, my char was neither human nor dualclassed but instead a multiclassed elven kensai-mage ... the most powerful char I ever played :thumb: Tougher even than my cavalier and my thieves.
Only chars I ever dualclassed was another kensai-make (dualed @ lvl-9), kinda nice but boring. My dc lvl-6 fighter/ lvl-X (from BG-1) thief was great for SoA but became weaker and weaker till the end - in ToB he really sucked.
the mc kensai-mage was really hard to play at the beginning - silly AC, unable to use elven chain, bracers, shields and lacking spells and hitpoints, very challenging to play - and highly recommended to try out. The limitation to ** gives that char a good flexibility in terms of his weaponry :)

Khazraj Sat, 10th Aug '02, 2:19am Thanks for your replies guys, but I really meant the true dual classing stuff without Shadowkeeper(I'm not saying that I don't use it, I just meant..."legitimate" human dual classes with kits). Anyway how did you get a multi class druid mage? It states that in my manual but the game does not actually allow it to half elves...
I'm going to try some more out. Can you give some more details on the wizardslayer mage, as to when you dual classed and how you played it?
Cheers
StressedE Sat, 10th Aug '02, 8:20am I am playing a DC wizard slayer lv-20/thief lv-X.
If you want a challenge that's it :D
Rastor Sat, 10th Aug '02, 3:43pm Anyway how did you get a multi class druid mage?Fixed the bug, made the character, played the character.
Khazraj Sun, 11th Aug '02, 9:39am Stressed! No I don't think that I would take you up on a duel with your dual wizardslayer thief, because I would...um....die! (Gibs) :D
Rastor! What do you mean fixed the bug? Did you download some file from somewhere or did you use SK? Can you gimme? I always wanted to do this and I was so dissapointed by the manual...
Cheers

StressedE Sun, 11th Aug '02, 9:52am lol, yes dying, I did that a lot.
especially right after dual classing.
I Skipped the whole underdark, because the underdark is no place for a lv-1 thief.
I went back later though.
Right now he's a pretty powerful character.
AC less than -10, decent thac0, 85%MR, high saving throws, lots of goodies, but it takes a while to get there.
powerful combo's:
Fighter/cleric
Ranger/cleric
Kensai/Mage
Rastor Sun, 11th Aug '02, 8:09pm Rastor! What do you mean fixed the bug?I actually edited the class files so that the combination was possible, as it should be. At this point though, they aren't suitable for release, but once I get the resultant bugs fixed, I'll release the files.
Harkle Mon, 12th Aug '02, 6:51am I've heard that multi-class ranger/clerics can cast all priest spells. But can rangers dual-classed to clerics cast them too?
Modjahed Mon, 12th Aug '02, 8:00pm Yes they can.
But in ToB you have to have a good THACO to hit things, and the number of spells is not that much greater, and you have to have a long transition period, so basically is is dual for SoA and multi for ToB.
StressedE Tue, 13th Aug '02, 8:57am multi for ToB, and Dual for SoA en small parties I would say
