View Full Version : What mod changed Valygar's Armor to Chainmail?

Yo. I've just picked up Valygar recently, and for the first time ever, his Armor is appearing as Chainmail rather than it's standard Leather. (edit - this is BAD for me, I think chainmail in this game engine looks stupid on humans). Does anyone know what mod would have done this? It's a componant I don't ever remember seeing, and I always pick individual install options one by one when available.

These (http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/topic/10/6335.html) are the mods I have installed currently.

My suspicion is that it may have been the componant in the G3 tweakpack that makes your avatar change to the type of armor you have on, in the case of multi-classes (for example: my fighter mage looks like a mage when he wears a robe, fighter with elven chain; Jan's adventure wear makes him appear as a hooded thief, etc.). Since Valygar's armor is listed as a CHAN in the console, this may have something to do with it. I don't know for sure though.

Thanks in advance.

Wearing a robe from g3Tweaks shouldn't be your trouble here. Could it be the kitpack?

I don't think so. I looked at the components and they only effect Mazzy, Minsc, Edwin, Anomen, Korgan and Sarevok's classes. No other item changes.

I always thought it should be elven chainmail -- it fits more with his family history.

Leather fits his class however. The type of Ranger he is I don't believe he can actually wear chain.

His Armour is also entirely personal to him. It's not just a family heirloom. when you first meet him he is not the type to wear something that would allow the casting of magic in it. So he would in fact avoid elven chain.

Although his kit requires studded leather at most, the designers seemed to want Valygar to be an exception (or designed him before that restriction was made). His class also requires him to cast arcane spells -- which he can do in his armor IIRC.

The Corthala Family Armor has the right weight and protection that +3 elven chain would have. The armor is coded as NPCHAN indicating it is chain armor. The armor, as written by Bioware, allows mages to cast spells while wearing it (just a note for all the fighter-mages out there).

Just because he does not trust arcane magic does not mean he will not use it. I think it is more interesting that he is a stalker -- the only ranger kit that does cast arcane spells. It adds to the feeling that he is 'conflicted.'

It's made by BG2 Tweaks in the Icon Improvements component. This was considered for inclusion in the Fixpack (relevant thread (http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?s=&showtopic=6580&view=findpost&p=31072), starting way back in our first alpha) but ultimately rejected. That's also one of the funner threads in the Fixpack forum, featuring a Kish-SimDing0 battle and WizWom declaring everyone wrong.

Um...fascinating as this new debate is, does anyone know how I can change it back short of a reinstall?

Have you tried removing NPCHAN from your override folder?

Uninstall Icon Improvements, or open up npchan.itm with an editor. In NI, change the 'Inventory Icon' field from 3A to 2A (dunno what DLTCEP or other editors call it, but it's at offset 0x22 in the file).

edit: DLTCEP calls the field the 'Paperdoll Animation ID'. Same deal; change the value from 3A to 2A.

Ok - thanks guys, I'll try all 3.

Now back to why Valygar should feel comfortable in stylish elven chain. :p
