I find that using a Stalker feels the most natural to me for some reason. I'm not sure why it just feels normal.

The least comfortable is Cleric, I'm not sure why, it just felt weird. I got out of the cage in Irenicus's dungeon, and felt like I needed to change my character.

Stalker or generic Ranger for me, followed closely by Assassin. All three are adept at fighting and sneaking, getting into the right position to start the battle or avoiding it outright. None of them I'd call power-characters (although the Assassin can be downright broken used correctly), but playing as one (in BG2 or PnP) comes naturally.

Cleric and Paladin don't feel right to me - too simple, too "holier than thou" for me (although I'm sure some on these boards and plenty more besides would disagree). Every party needs at least one (un)righteous stiff upper lip, but that's what Keldorn, Anomen and Viconia are for.

Bard, mainly Skald and Blade. IF I want more of a fighter I will use a Ranger (or Stalker). If I feel like a bout of divine magic then I will use a Fighter/Druid.

Fighter or Paladin. Never tried ranger, which is kind of sad. I should try that next time, never played cleric either, there is just something that bugs me, with a child of Bhaal worshipping another god.

I prefer to use two classes:mage,barbarian(half-orc).
Mages power is awesome in BGII.
Barbarian Half-Orc after completing BGII SoA is almost unstopable!

Do you mean most comfortable roleplaying, or most comfortable powergaming?

If roleplaying, Fighter/thief.

If powergaming, Inquisitor.

A Wizard or a Thief

mage/thief... always

Both roleplaying and powergaming I would say palladin. I like the normal thief for roleplaying.

Thief or Assassin, I blame the Thief serie for this ;)

Ranger mostly. I am partial to a bit of thievery from time to time though.

Wizard. I like arcane spellcasters, and for some reason I like wizards more than sorcerers.

Monk is too exotic for me; I've tried it only once or twice.

My choice is Bard - preferrably blade. Second is Mage or Sorcerer.

Least is Pure Cleric - I don't feel my being the protagonist if i'm a cleric.

Jester and Avenger.
Playing a bard will never ever get boring. He has many uses, like his lore. Which my Avenger-lead party could use right now. Funny how you find dozens of Identify scrolls when playing a bard, but when choosing an other class there are so few. :/ My hiding place is full of unidentified stuff.

As for Avengers and kicking the ass of anyone harming nature. How great is that? Plus his spellbook is one of the best in the game, in my opinion.

Fighter / cleric all the way. Mainly because there's almost nothing they can't handle in my experience. Particulalry when you're a half orc for that little extra strength!

I'm always an arcane spellcaster of some kind, never a cleric though (hated goldslaves.... ahem!).

Always sorcerer, at times thief or ranger. I could never think myself as a paladin or clerk, which strike me as religious kamikaze-bombers. :shake:

I love the Archer for powergaming, but in roleplaying, especially the PnP, Paladins, Fighters, or Judges, a class I use in my friends PnP...

I'm most comfortable as a mage/thief multiclass and if not that then another class that has a mage or thief component. I like to have a certain degree of flair so I can't get into characters that are too warrior-like.

A fighter of some sort. I liked the paladin, just felt good. Though any fighter really. I felt to weak to play as a class like a mage. Eh...

Druid :D

Or even better, the bestest, if i could play monk/druid, that'd be the easiest to roleplay, actually i'd just be playing myself more than anything.

For me, a Cleric/Mage (or even better, a Cleric/Illusionist gnome) is the thing! A master of all kinds of spells, he (or she) really becomes a powerhouse by the last half of ToB. I'm also partial to Druids (Totemic) and Monks. I wish Monks were more like their D&D 1st edition selves (they could use crossbows and quarterstaves).

For versatility, I like Skalds. They have the best song in the game, they can use more weapons than a Blade can (because they don't specialize) and when they use those weapons, they are better at hitting than your average rogue. Plus, given that I am an English teacher, the Skald is the type of entertainer that suits me the best -- he's not a physical actor like the Blade or a goofball like the Jester -- he makes great poetry and uses his voice to deliver it.

I feel cheated by the game because it does not allow Sorcerer/Thief. I always play some kind of arcane type, but much prefer Sorcerers over Mages. I also like having a thief for their abilities and coolness factor. I usually play Mage/Thief, but really wish there was some way to be a Sorcerer/Thief.

A non-kit Thief. Every single time I take a kit, it always just seems wrong..

I simply can't stand playing fighters. I don't know why.

For me it's a Cleric. I just seem to be better at using Divine Spells like Flame Strike, Call Lightning and later on Storm of Vengeance. Though for a pure fighting class I love the monk.

Give me a Wild Mage, or any of the thief kits and I will be happy. I have tried all other classes, but none really appeal to me that much.

I am considering the idea of trying a bard specialised in enchantments, though...

Cavalier... no poison or fear to worry about, and that Holy Avenger sword is great. Yeah, sometimes sacrificing missile weapons sucks, but in this case, I think it's worth it.

Sorcerer or Magic User. I've played "the wizard" since I started pnp games 20 years ago. I play "the wizard" in every new game I ever try. I'm actually a little disappointed that the sorcerer became such a mainstream, popular character in BG2 and is now considered over-powered. I liked it better when playing "the wizard" was considered difficult (not that I mind using double-strength timestop/improved alacrity to become an orbital battle station).

For me it is the plain thief. There is something about a thief that seems much more realistic to play then any other character. It seems unreal for me to have one tank or one spellcaster singlehandidly eradicate an entire city of illithid or other super powerful creatures. The only way I can justify one character killing multiple dragons, liches, illithid, beholders, demons, undead, drow, elementals, etc. is by having a character that uses his craftiness to kill them.

And all these characters are ALWAYS Chaotic Neutral...don't know why, but I feel weird playing any other alignment.

I think Druids rock, especially with Ashes of Embers so they can use bows. My idea of Druids is that they should be able to use bows. After seeing underworld I got inspired to play a shapeshifter ;) , and I think they're underrated (the little troopers)--well, with refinements in any event. And if anyone has looked closely at the werewolf animation you'll see they're so darn cute and squidgey.

I'd have to go with Archers on this one. Especially with Greater Whirlwind and a Case of Plenty +2.

A thief: the most self reliant class.

Thor
Mon, 16th Aug '04, 6:50pm
I prefer to use a Paladin, Rangers are also one of my favourites.

Just curious, can a Kensai/thief with UAI wear armor?

Scythe
Tue, 24th Aug '04, 3:29pm
Thor, yes they can... it overrides everything so they can use Carosmyr or Staff of magi too. As a HLA UAI has no equal IMHO.

As a result I try to pick a class that can get it... Bard or Multiclass Thief.

Balle
Tue, 24th Aug '04, 10:38pm
hmm, it's sad that a theif multi or dual cant backstab with the staff of the magi then, it would be insane....

oh and for classes, it must be sorcerer, berzerker, assasin or F/T

I like Kensai-Mage, Fighter-Thief-Mage, and Avenger classes. In theory my favourite is Ranger-Bard, but it is a little difficult in BG2...

In cRPGs I tend to avoid the sort of classes that are popular among the powergaming set. It's not a conscious choice, it's just that because I'm much more of a roleplayer I find that the kind of classes powergamers love tend to bore me. You'll never catch me playing a kensai/mage, for instance, mostly because being an Oriental Adventures player from the old school, I find the very idea patently ridiculous.

Oh, do I love rangers. More than half my PnP characters have been rangers of some sort, including my current one. I've been in love with the idea ever since reading LotR for the first time many, many moons ago (I am not a Janey-come-lately). I just love them.

In BG2 it's the stalker for me. They just "feel right". I have always preferred stealthy characters who use cunning and finesse to take down enemies as opposed to the Hulk method. I like the silent, deadly bad ass as opposed to the philistine in a tin can. Even the name is cool. Say it with me now: stalker. Makes you want to look over your shoulder, doesn't it? ;) I am also partial to blades for the very same reason. If I have to kill, I want to do it with style.

Even the name is cool.Couldn't agree more - any idiot can break stuff and blow things up; it takes style to do it stealthily or a bit of class, or to avoid violence entirely. They just have so many more options than a regular fighter, and there's only so many times you can use a cheesy combination of spells before it gets dull. Rangers (and Stalkers in particular) deliver all this, plus dual-wielding, minor clerical abilities and a well-documented ethos/code of behaviour.

For similar reasons, the rogue classes are great IMHO. Sure, you can abuse their abilities and make them hideously powerful, but the whole idea of them is fantastic; they have no one stand-out attribute and aren't the best in a fight, but they are excellent all-rounders and let's face it... they gots more style than Jansen AdventureWear.

People really are different. I don't think I've ever played a single class fighter in all my years of gaming. The idea bores me to tears.

I need more versatility than, "PAINE SMASH!", but to each his/her own I guess. :)

Ooh, thieves are so much fun. If I wasn't such a ranger fangirl I would play them more often. Mage/thief is probably my favorite one besides stalker and blade. I could never play a character without some access to spells (even limited like a ranger), and I love to sneak around. It's like the best of both worlds. :)

Out of what I've played so far, the Monk is by far my favorite. It takes a real man to kill several enormous, bloodthirsty demons with his bare hands :)

Coming in a distant second, but still pretty far ahead of most vanilla classes ('nilla fighter, thief, druid, and clerc) is the Inquisitor. I've never seen such a force of righteous fury :p

For me, its the Kensai. I'm new to crpgs, and when I fired up BG2 for the 1st time and was poking around the character design screen, I came across Kensai, thought "That sounds cool" and for some reason its become my class ever since. Playing anything else just seems wrong, though I have experimented with some others.
