Alright guys, this one is a real stumper :mad: :confused: .

I'm in Chapter 2 and at the point where Dermin appears for the second time, and at the next rest Jaheira is supposed to leave. No matter where I rest, the game crashes about 1 sec after I click on the icon, and I see the dumb Windows message about how the program encountered problems and must be closed (duh!). This crash also occurs if I rest before Dermin appears, but near the time he's supposed to show up. I haven't tried kicking Jaheira out, but I can't progress the game with this bug (my party will be pretty tired after ToB if I don't rest . . .).

Everything in the romance thus far has worked as advertised. I've got the latest ToB patch v.26498 and I'm playing with no mods. Aside from a little PC tweaking with Shadowkeeper I haven't touched anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, with no luck. I'm running WinXP with all the latest Windowsupdate stuff, new video card drivers, etc. and my system runs stable for just about anything.

I've searched the forums but haven't found anything related to my problem (maybe I overlooked a thread?). If you guys could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Don't ever kick Jaheira out the party if you wish to romance her.

When resting - does it load up the resting video.

can you rest on other games.

can you run the videos from the main menu.

ShadowKeeper can cause problems in your game. If it is the case I recommend removing SK and perhaps reinstalling the game.

Reply with any results to these things, reinstalling keeps files safe and everything, however as Ex might say (Probably not, he might have seen SK mentioned :p ) then it's the Cache, override and Temp folders to clear out. However don't until Ex or someone has made sure I got it right ^_^

Thanks for the tips, 8people. When I try to rest, it does not load the resting video; the game immediately crashes. The videos work fine from the main menu, and every other rest I try works fine. Only when I rest near the time Dermin shows up again (even before he confronts Jaheira) does it crash. I'll try some more stuff tonight when I get back home.

I thought SK may be the cause, but if my saved games are corrupted then I probably have to start over. It would suck though if I restarted w/o SK and still run into the same problem. I only edited my PC to reflect the stat bonuses from BG1, and that was at the beginning. Does SK actually add or modify any BG2 files other than CHR and save games? When I reinstalled I deleted the entire BG2 folder except for my save games.

Edited to add: I stumbled upon the solution . . . it has to do with ShadowKeeper.

I overlooked that in my current run through the game I gave Imoen +1 INT and Jaheira +3 WIS to reflect the tomes from BG1. I had started so many games that I forgot about this. My theory is that the game can't 'find' Jaheira to remove her from the party because she's edited. The game doesn't know what to do and promptly crashes. Upon restoring Jaheira to her default stats, everything worked.

Moral of the story: DO NOT EDIT YOUR LOVE INTEREST! It's like a wild surge; you never know what's gonna happen :mad: :D .
