What is the creature you hate to deal with? Why?

View Full Version : The creature type (not individual) I hate in ToB Baronius Wed, 14th Aug '02, 6:20pm What is the creature you hate to deal with? Why? Keneth Wed, 14th Aug '02, 6:40pm I guess you didn't watch the boards much because you are new so you didn't see all the posts about hating creatures like mind flayers, adamantine golems, umber hulks, ... Anyway the one hate the most must be clay golem because I mostly play solo and very rarely use blunt or spiked weapons so I must give all my efforts just to kill one of them. :flaming:  :bang: Gladiator Wed, 14th Aug '02, 7:14pm Liches is always giving me a hard time, especially since I usually solo Fighters, Berserkers and the likes. Kangaxx is the worst, as he is a Demi-Lich as well. Gothmog• Wed, 14th Aug '02, 9:44pm Mages with their illusion magicks really piss me off with low level party. Vampires only becouse of level drain. Rastor Thu, 15th Aug '02, 3:54pm Ultharids are the only things that are somewhat frustrating to me (at lower levels). My first time through the game, mages were a pain, until I learned how to dispell their magics. Parvini Thu, 15th Aug '02, 4:04pm Anything that level drains my spell casters, a pain or what! Gladiator Thu, 15th Aug '02, 7:21pm Level Drain has never been any mayor problem for me, atleast not when I'm a spellcaster. One Negative Plain Protection or wearing the Amulet of Power, and the vampires dont stand a chance. :) Lord Ogre Fri, 16th Aug '02, 4:54pm Well, since I'm at such an high level, I have no real pain in the ass anymore, except maybe Ulitharids as they drain intelligence and if they do that twice to my main character, he's dead, but I just let them pursui him and shoot them down with the other 5 of my party... I don't understand why you all hate undead so much! I have Viconia and she goes up in levels so quickly, that she is already a lvl 27 cleric and guess what... She's got a holy symbol. Let here use it and let a fighter attack all your new-created friends with the mace of disruption or the runic hammer (This way you're immune to lvl drain, just in case something might go wrong, althouh it never does...) Besides that, I really hate those Fire giants as they almost alwasy hit you when they attack and do lots of damage. Alone they are easy, but in groups of 6... Ouch! But everything else, Liches, Demi-Liches, Dragons everything is SO easy when you have Edwin along... :D (He killed a dragon today almost all by himself, he cast a lower Magic resistance, a pierce magic, time stop, then spell alacrity, then 5 magic missiles and a dragons breath and it was dead as soon as the time stop was over... {Viconia had used some energy discs, so it was not all by himself, but he did 95% of the job) Lord Ogre kemanmaldea Fri, 16th Aug '02, 9:50pm Personally For me It would be the Fire giants... just a pain in the butt. but then I linked a sorcerer with time stop and improved aclarity. They died fast. :D Abyssal Knight Sat, 17th Aug '02, 11:06pm I didn't have that much trouble with any of the general creatures, but mostly with individuals. If I had to pick one it would be Dragons because they just kept on blowing me backwards. Register Sun, 18th Aug '02, 12:49am mind-flayers, vampires and beholders... until i gave viccy the shield of balduran, mace of distruption and haste(so she can hit and run from the mind-flayers)... pretty effective eh... Fizity Sun, 18th Aug '02, 6:36am For me, it's the bloody golems. Clay ones I don't mind, but the big ones annoy me. Dragons? Ptah, spells get 'em... Any other guy I've taken with spells or a reload or two, but the shame of being beaten by thoughtless lump of metal hurts. Abyssal Knight Mon, 19th Aug '02, 4:44am Golems were pretty hard early on, but later on in the game I thought they were a peice of cake. Deathmage Tue, 20th Aug '02, 6:34am Hey Fizity!! :) As for me, I find Clay Golems rather annoying. And Adaman...Adaman...Adamantite? Anyway...*some* dragons are diffcult (unless you cheese and set traps around it, like one of my friends did, tho he insists that he has the Shadow Ward so the Dragon can't see him), and...Mind Flayers are rather annoying. Those Spore Colonies are also annoying for a low-level party...my Fire Elemental died to that  . Rastor Tue, 20th Aug '02, 6:20pm Oh yeah, myconids, I forgot about them. Yeah, they annoy me too. StressedE Wed, 21st Aug '02, 1:21pm Spore colonies drop in seconds, just go for the big one first, by the time I first met them they were piece of cake. Level drain annoys me. I hate anything that level drains. You need restoration and then you need to rest, and then you realize you don't have all spells and need to select them again and then rest again... it's a pain. Spelladonna Wed, 21st Aug '02, 1:38pm Spore colonies drop in seconds POOF... fireball. Works every time. Arrow of detonation works especially well for my archer with his Tuigan Bow. Rastor Wed, 21st Aug '02, 3:49pm Death spell also works wonders against them, once I figured that out. My first time through, I had no idea what I was doing, so everything was a pain in the butt. All subsequent times, well, most things became pushovers. Gothmog• Thu, 22nd Aug '02, 12:46pm Backstabbers are real pain when soloing with a class that cant detect them(insane difficulty) and early on when you dont have the right equipment. everytime over 100 damage can realy bring you down fast. Luckily there arent many. :) Greystar Fri, 23rd Aug '02, 3:36am Yes, clay golem is annoying, they always immune to my damage (and I RARELY use any kind of blunt weapon). Well, if you have trouble with other creature then I have some strategy againts them: _ Adamantine Golem: lure them to a door way (where they get stuck), then use 2-handed weapon to kill them (they can't attack you, btw the Liarco work fine), or use tansheron bow to kill them. _ Vampires: have Anomen turned undead (destroy them at high level), which will destroy most of them, then have your fighter go kill the rest (if he can equiped the amulet of power, it will be easier). Void Fri, 23rd Aug '02, 11:42am I must say, I found Abizigal and Draconis (ARRRRGHHH ENOUGH WITH THE INVISIBILITY!!!) to be the toughest... Greystar Fri, 23rd Aug '02, 5:03pm "I must say, I found Abizigal and Draconis (ARRRRGHHH ENOUGH WITH THE INVISIBILITY!!!) to be the toughest... " But they are not individual man Baronius Fri, 30th Aug '02, 1:15am Yeah. Draconis and Abazigal are really powerful. But the worst enemies are mind flayers I think... Parvini Fri, 30th Aug '02, 2:58am Baronius are you twelve? Astra Fri, 30th Aug '02, 4:33am Mind flayers are my least favorite. Hands down. I haven't been playing all that long, but I haven't had much of a problem with the Beholders or even the Vampires (I just finished up Chapter 3). Once I learned how to use Breach and Negative Plane Protection, those two species went to being merely annoying. Mind flayers though, jeez. I ran into their chamber in the dungeons and was dead in a couple of seconds. It was ugggggly. [ August 30, 2002, 04:43: Message edited by: Astra ] Sick curtaiN Fri, 30th Aug '02, 4:41am Beholders... :flaming: esp. the improved ones. :bang: [ August 30, 2002, 04:42: Message edited by: sick_curtain ] Gothmog• Fri, 30th Aug '02, 11:27am @sick_curtain Use the force :D :D (cloak of mirroring ;) ) Javalar Fri, 30th Aug '02, 6:36pm Illithids and their tougher cousins are by far the hardest. I found the demi-lich rather easy, for some reason. Dragons were also rather easy, as long as you try and keep your characters spread out. However, the Illithids tended to be in small rooms where they could quickly rush you, and unless you knew they were coming, you usually lost a few characters. I think I probably ended up more well-prepared for the Mind Flayers as anything else in the game. Rastor Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 2:37am Heh, the Cloak of Mirrors doesn't seem to do all that much against improved beholders because it will not stop their slow ray. Eventually, I had Korgan wearing that and although their rays didn't do any damage, they screwed his AC enough that they could pound him with impunity. The Shield of Cheeseran is pretty good though. Prophete D'Acier Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 6:30am Illithids/Mind Flayers (they screw up the minds of my characters), Liches (their time stop and other spells are a pain in the @$$) and Beholders (I hate it when they cast inprisonment!). To tell you the truth, I *LIKE* fighting dragons (!). They're a challenge and not really obnoxious. I'm ok with demons and vampires (all you need's a fast cleric). Golems are a little more irritating because you need to use a blunt weapon but it's mostly ok. I like killing Giths! Gothmog• Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 12:41pm @Rastor Greater Beholders are usually surounded by gauths or normal beholders which would make the fight much tougher. With cloak you can leave all those wounds shooting Beholders to kill themselves while releasing all your fire to the greater one. Alone he isnt such a problem ;) Rastor Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 4:19pm Kill themselves? You must be playing with the original cloak then. After installing ToB, the cloak is changed so that it does not reflect spells, it only stops them. Gothmog• Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 10:29pm Really??? Thats way better :D :D :D All i saw in ToB is that bad-lookin animation. Anyway i'm gonna download it soon ;) Shadowhunter Mon, 2nd Sep '02, 10:38pm Mind Flayers, Beholders, Vampires and Demons Gothmog• Thu, 5th Sep '02, 9:11am in short all the tough ones except dragons right Shadowhunter ;) ;) |
