Those elves of Suldaesslar are a pretty tight bunch. Riches the queen promises. Finally I get Irenicus dead and the party zoom back to the Elven city. Queen makes this speech, great reward for a brave act, saving the city etc. And what does she give? A bleeding necklace!!!!!!!!

I really think the elves should have been left to their fate.

I know it sucks. You do get some nice items in Suldenessellar (yeah I know the spelling is wrong) though like one of the giants' girdles and that staf of the woodlands. The necklace isn't so bad either.

And yes I also think that their fate with Irenicus would be more appropriate. :D

Call yourself a hero? A force for goodness? Of course, if you're evil it would be good to have the opportunity to wipe out the elven city in disgust at their parsimony. Better hope that Rillifane isn't still about then... ;)

Yup your reward is the amulet of Sell Me Please. Complete with a tacky green finish.

IIRC Elly didn't make the city Invisible, Johnny did.

If you think about it - the Elves have been through a crisis - the fair city was raided by Drow - thousands lay dead or dying and homes were raided by their dark cousins taking all of value. Irenicus locked up the castle so no-one would really be able to prepare a reward.

You lay dead for days - the queen fears you are gone for good when you come round with your companions, you are granted an amulet given to all heroes of the city - an amulet which protects you from the magic you had to battle and will prtoect you from magic used against you in the future

I know - I play IC too much

The amulet is seriously pretty good. +10 MR plus a saving throw bonus. It's the only MR necklace that can be used by melee classes. The MR is going to help a lot in TOB.

Was this amulet also usable by wizard slayers?

Big B

It's not a bad amulet on its own, but when you compare it to other amulets you can have by that time of the game and going into ToB, it's not really all that in terms of a gift for saving a city and elminating the elves' problem of Irenicus.

And I still insist it's painted an ugly green :p .

That's right you actally had to die and stay dead for a weak just for them and all you get in return is this green amulet that isn't that bad but compared to others it's nothing.

You should be happy that they don't punish you for raiding their home :D

I forget, did they have indoor plumbing?

IIRC this is the only necklace usable by wizard slayers, making it a very powerful item.
On a side note, you didn't fight Irenicus to help them, but because you wanted your soul back.

Those elves are pretty cheap. You're lucky they didn't loot your corpses and sell all your gear. I can just picture it:

"Oh glorious wonder! You are alive oncemore!"

"Uh, yes... glorious. Where are my pants?"

"Oh... um..."

"Where is my helm? Where is my sword? What's going on here?"

"Uhhh.... we removed them in our attempts to heal you. I'll, um... I'll just go and get them. Oh, have this shiny green necklace. It's particularly groovy."

"Yeah, well, I'd rather those pantaloons. They're made of gold, you know."

"Really?!? Gold?!? That rotten merchant only gave us 200gp for them! I mean... uh... hang on, I'll be right back..."

eeerm... actually the boots of speed found in Bodhis dungeon after spellhold wizard-slayers can also use... not very usable though...

Wizard slayers can use any boots,
they are considered to be armor and thereby useable by wizard slayers.
I meant necklaces, I'll edit items into necklaces in the original post.

What items are you talking about that are better than this? Not Amulet of Power, I'm certain. I stand by my conviction that the Amulet of the Seldarine is the best legitimate item for fighters obtainable in game.

I will agree that the amulet you get from elly is verry usefull... the only one I prefer to it is the amulet of power if I am a spell caster of some sort...

Yes it's good for fighters, but how many other classes are there? Plus, 10% MR is pretty measley IMHO. It's just enough to mock you. This amulet gives you MR! (psst just 10% though)

Stingy elves. The plus 1 to saves is it's only redeeming quality. I guess it's preference, but I hate poisoning, so I value the Periapt of Proof Against Posioning over that amulet. And you get that a whole lot sooner.

Big B, name one item in the game other than Carsomyr or Purifier (which are both Paladin only) that gives more than +10 MR. I wouldn't call that measley, having an extra 10% can save your butt against the ToB mages. I'd call that pretty significant. Yes, the Periapt against Poison is nice, but I never have a problem with poison once I make it that far in the game, and few enemies use it past that point.

Just my opinion.

Forget items -- use the ToB ability Resist Magic and get 50% MR. Now that's not measely.

Considering that it lasts for four rounds, yes it is.

You know what's REALLY funny, the Elf Queen says "I assume you are EAGER TO CONTINUE YOUR JOURNEYS" at the end of BGII.

You save Suldenesselar (sp, Bah). The wonderful and wise queen Ellisme goes: "Hooray, you saved us,but now all the bhall spawn are bieng hunted down, and we fear for our lives beacuse you might go mental on us. So take this necklace and bye bye!". Whereupon you get tossed out the gates and thrown into a grove. And its raining. And you left your umbrella of dryness +3 perched by the tree of life, didn't you? What cruel little elves they are :( .
