I just played BG1 several times. Then BG2 SOA once and BG2 SOA+TOB once. I am getting near the end of TOB now (did WK and am about to kill Yaga-Shura). I am following the Aerie romance and took the thieves side. Next I want to replay BG2 doing the Jaheira romance and taking the Vampire side and using as many different NPC's as possible. I also someday want to finish my evil party in BG1 then do BG2 with an evil party. But BG2 takes me a long time to play. I see posts that say some people can rush through the game in just a few days. How, I dunno? Maybe I am just way too slow at games ;( So I am not sure I want to tackle BG2 again right away. I might want to do the next one (NWN?) first or maybe do my Doom 3 that is sitting here, waiting. I think Doom 3 will take me a lot less time then another BG2 runthrough.

Anyway to the point: I want to follow the BG storyline as much as possible.

Is Neverwinter Nights the next one in the series? What about Icewind Dale? Does it also follw the BG story or is it a seperate story? Would doing some of the BG2 mods be better for the overall story than moving to NWN next?

No, it ends at tob. NWN is set in the forgotten realms like the BG series but it has nothing to do with BG. It is quite a load of crap compared to BG2, IWD2 the same.
