I was just wondering, if you were fighting a mage with 5 stoneskins and you cast magic missile at him with 5 missiles, would each individual missile break a stoneskin or would all 5 break one stoneskin.

I'm assuming that each one would break a stoneskin as if a first level mage cast a magic missile, and hit, surely it would break the stoneskin.

I can't see why it wouldn't.
I mean, each missile does do individaul damage doesn't it.

Stoneskin doesn't protect the caster from magical attacks, magic missle hits through stoneskin. You cannot break stoneskins with magic missle.

Arachnis is right - contrary to the stoneskin description, Magic Missles deal non-physical damage, and hence pass straight through stoneskin.
If it did deal physical damage, it would probably cut through a random number of skins. This is what it does with Mirror Image - it is possible to take no damage and not loose any images, or to loose many images and take damage from each missle. As far as I know, this is not limited to loosing 5 images (for 5 missles).

Magic Missile hurts the mage, but doens't remove layers of Stoneskins.

@Magnus

Are you saying you've had mirror on and got hit by a magic missile and took no damage and lost no images? Are you sure you weren't shielded or something?

Magic missile only takes down 1 mirror image not up to five. I'll be quite hapy if someone proves me wrong though - it would be quite handy for the future.
The only way you can take a magic misile hit and not take damage when mirror image is up and not lose an image, is when you have shield, spell turning or globe of invunerability (sp?) and other protections i cant be bothered to think up. oh, and magic res as well.

Magic Missile will take down as many images as the number of missiles cast minus the number of missiles that hit the mage. Very rarely will images block all missiles. You can't just discount for missiles like that, they have to go somewhere.

Magic missile? :confused:

Use Rapture of the Father :grin: :grin:

In my experience it depends on proximity to the target. When I have cast magic missile when is close quarters it seems to only take out one image. However, from a decent distance the missiles have time to fan out and therefore seem to behave differently.

That's the spell that Irenicus uses in the Asylum cutscene where all the shadow thieves die. It's in the game files, but you can't get it.

Shield spell protects you from magic missile, which is, although physical, of magical nature and therefore stoneskin is of no relevance. I am perfectly sure that in 3E magic missile takes down one mirrored image per each missile, but I don't know if in BG2 they aren't considered simultaneous and thus only affecting one image.

Man! Looks like some of you have type BG2 blood. I didn't even know that stoneskin is stackable. :)

@Daephon
Possibly, but I haven't taken a look at the spell's definition to see what it would actually do.
