View Full Version : Overcoming magic resistance Kull Mon, 3rd Jun '02, 10:51pm Which offensive spells (either damaging or harmful effect) do you KNOW are not subject to magic resistance? Vukodlak Mon, 3rd Jun '02, 11:57pm Lower resistance JanusDamien Tue, 4th Jun '02, 12:05am As far as I know, Dragon's Breath completely ignores magic resistance. That's why I love this spell so much. Please take note that it ignores magic resistance, but not fire resistance. [This message has been edited by JanusDamien (edited June 04, 2002).] Ragusa Tue, 4th Jun '02, 12:24am There are three spells I know which work against MR: mage spells:
Pierce magic not only removes protections, it also lowers the target's MR for 1% per caster level.
Lower resistance lowers the MR of a target for 10% plus 1% per level of the caster cleric spells:
Magic resistance sets the enemy MR to 2% per cleric level, to a maximum of 40% on lvl-20. This can be useful against some enemies like dragons - offensively used the rule is: the lower the cleric level, the better. I think that there are more.Anyway Check your manual.Ah!!!Just found mine.Heres your answers: Level 9: (1)Bigbys Clenched fist will be stoped. (2)Dragons breath and comet don't stop them. (3)Abi-dalzims will be partialy stoped.(one or two blows will affect the target. (4)LR and Imprisoment don't. (5)Power word blind and kill don't get affected at all. (6)Finger of death ad death spell dont. (7)Meteor swarm and wail of the banshee doesn't. Priest spells: All 7 and quest spells cannot be stoped. I think that some are wrong but most are right.I also think that Kelberns warding whip doesn't.Finally I would like to tell you that magic resistance is not something to worry about. You should just use lower magic resistance. Padine the Paladin!!! Hope I helped!!! Kull Tue, 4th Jun '02, 7:32pm Check my manual? If you can cite the page number that answers my question, I would appreciate it. Padine are you confusing magic resistance with saving throw? I know that in third edition AD&D, magical resistance applies even when no saving throw is allowed. I assume that this game mechanic applies to second edition AD&D as well as Baldur's Gate? Sirdan Tue, 4th Jun '02, 7:33pm There are some spells that bypass magic resistance and they can work even in a 100% MR opponent(Imprisonment comes in mind here). Padine has listed most of them but the only way to be sure if a spell bypasses MR or not (except if that stays in the description) is to look at the spell files. [This message has been edited by Sirdan (edited June 04, 2002).] Kull Tue, 4th Jun '02, 7:55pm How do I look at the spell files? Will the files say "overcomes MR?" So, Padine's submissions are all on the money? Sirdan Tue, 4th Jun '02, 8:24pm You must open the spell file with IEEP Spell Maker, then when you open the Extension Header you will find the options for every effect (Bypass MR, No Saving Throw etc.) For example, a in imprisonment's file you'll find that the extension header for the effect imprisonment has "Bypass MR, no Saving Throw allowed". The problem is that most of the spells files are in the spells.bif and you must extract them to override with WinBiff. Kull Tue, 4th Jun '02, 9:58pm Can you provide a link to those programs? (...I hope they have a good readme file because I am not a wiz programmer...) TIN_MAN Wed, 5th Jun '02, 8:58am Imprisonment completely ignores magic resistance. I think comet is negated by MR... Sirdan Wed, 5th Jun '02, 9:25am You can find all the programms (IEEP, WinBiff etc.) here (http://teambg.com/?page=tools/basiccustomizing) And don't worry they have a good readme. I am not a wiz programmer either  |
