I'm thinking about starting a character in BG1 (with ToTSC installed) and taking her (yes, a she, I have already an idea of the character, cleric, female, half-elf) all the way through to ToB. Has anyone here ever done this before? It would seem like a cool idea to me. Any comments?

I've started with a human pally called Bedevere, and have already reached SOA, where he's currently in a "Castle Anthrax" scenario, but is going to be "rescued" soon by Keldorn, who will convince him to stick with one woman. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my hands on TotSC, so I just skipped that.

I've done this with a lawful evil fighter that became a Kensai in SoA. It's long to go through ToSC-SoA-ToB. But it is a great deep roleplaying experience and you get even a greater feeling of the Saga your character is going through....

Right now I'm in ToSC with a Bard that I will bring through SoA and ToB also...

I'm doing (done) it. I like (liked) it. But still: I'm finding myself a little maniac (And I'm not talking about what my wife think of me about this hahaha!!).

I just did it....or rather I am in the process of doing it. I finished BG I & II and am close to finishing TOB....with the same character...cool, but a little time consuming....I'm starting to feel like a social outcast. And I'm starting to run out of excuses for not going out and partying. I'm getting too old to be sitting infront of a computer until 4am on a Saturday night.

The experience is very cool, however. It will just take you a little while. OH, and I almost forgot...BGI seems painfully slow compared to SOA.

Heh, after thinking about all the time I spent just playing BG, BG2, and now ToB through just one, there is NO WAY I can play those games through back to back to back. I think I'd wither and die if I spent that much time in front of this comupter :D

Or at least have missing ads turning up about you while you played ;)

Doing that with a character you know you will like all the way trough is as far as I'm concerned, one of the best RPG experience you can have. But then, I do consider myself as somekind of a computerized-RPG maniac.

hahaha!
Marmeille:
I've just agreed with you on another topic. And in that one I was just saying that I'm a little maniac (see in one of the reply sent sooner in that topic.)

Nice to meet another maniac!

I'm going to use a Fit for BG1 and then dual him to something else in BG2 and then destroy everything in ToB with my new and improved super dude. I like to think of each part of the BG series as a part of my characters development and switch classes at each stage to show it.Can't remember if I can dual class twice(Fit-9/Cl-11/Mu-whatever).I'll change again at ToB if possible. If I can't I will just use my combined strength from 1 and 2 to assault ToB. Thats my path.Of course this is assuming that I can keep my attention on this trilogy long enough to complete.

Well, I'm busy doing it...

I've just started SOA, (I just hate to write it like that, SAO is the Dutch word for STD {Sexual Transmitted Decease}, but I digress) with Eliraweth, a NE Half-Elf Fighter/Cleric.

I've already the D'Arnise stronghold, and now I'm busy with Umar Hills Killings (Beware the Umar Witch, I'm sorry, mother, Michealus... Ah, love the The Umar Witch Project Journal).

But anyway, just wanted to let you know. And it is really a cool experience. And no, my family hasn't reported me missing, yet. I only dissappear for 8 hours a day.

On a related note, has anyone soloed from BG1 all the way through ToB? I'm going to take a single class mage (heheheh or F/M/T) through the series. As we speak, I'm installing BG1 and ToSC.

Bloodpuff, you stole my line!!!

Yes, I bought BG1 and ToSC yesterday, and started an adventure to remember.

I plan to run solo through BG1-ToSC-BG2-ToB with my half-elven MC Ranger/Cleric (doh..)

SO far I have beaten the Prologue and Chapter One, I am level 5/5 and I just arrived to Nashkel.

When I mean solo, I mean I will never reruit any party members at any time - so no thief skills and mage spells for me.

I see.

I already wussed out and dragged Imoen along with me to the Friendly Arm Inn, where I promptly ditched her. Killed all of two wolves for 65xp. I guess I'm not REALLY soloing anymore.

I'm fighting with some video issues in BG, so I haven't gotten past 1st level yet. Using a M/T, but I'll probably restart as a straight mage. Be much more interesting that way. Whups, Disc 5 of my reinstall, I'm crossing my fingers.

Update: There we go. Installed and begging to be marathoned. BG to ToB in 72 hours, here I come :D

[This message has been edited by Bloodpuff (edited August 09, 2001).]

Update: AAAAARRRGH! It isn't working! Thats 3 reinstalls in a row. DirectX8.0 and full patches for BG - ToSC. It works fine up to the friendly Arm Inn, then I get video corruption, specifically with large squares of solid colors that blot out the background. It seems that some of the area is fine, only the rendering in the main view is screwed up. I'm off to hunt down a solution...

BG is over for my MC/RC. I have beaten it yesterday.

I will not move to ToSC yet, because I got a bit bored by BG setting, so I exported my lvl 7/7 char to BG2.

Update on the progression on the BG2 forum.

This morning I completed SoA with my Elven Sorcerer (I had Haer Dalis, the games best NPC in my group :)), so naturally I immediately switched CD's and started at the beginning with a female half-elven bard that I'll take all the way through (who cares if you don't get lvl 8 spells? I'm going to kit to a Blade anyway!). I figure it'll take a good 100 hours to go through BG/TotSC (I play slowly, it's more enjoyable). I wonder how many cans of Pringles I'll have to buy to last me? :)

I just started back in BG1 with a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric. Up till now I've played the entire series with my own party in multi-player, except for the odd NPC now and then. I'm going to try to keep the story intact by limiting my party to Jaheira, Imoen, Khalid, Minsc and Dynaheir -- just for the role-playing aspects (even though Khalid can get on my nerves).

I'm certainly not the power gamer some of are though! 72 Hours!?! My butt would fall off. I figure this will keep me busy until Neverwinter Nights comes out. I missed the more open aspects of BG1 while playing SOA and ToB, so I plan on covering every inch of ground in each part of the series.

Right now I'm trying out the undead hunter kit in BGII so I can't start back at the beginning. But as soon as I'm finished SoA this time, I'm going to do all three games... solo... as Aerie! Wish me luck...

Aaack! I'm having withdrawal. I haven't been able to play all week. Because at day it's far too hot to survive (It's 35 Degrees Celcius in the room where the computer is) and at night we're having gigs almost every day (I'm in a band.).

Must... Play... Soon... Don't... Have... Enough... RPG... Rush... This... Week...

I've started all over again with a female half elf M/C Thief Mage, true neutral. I am using the infinity engine pro to create my chars weapons so it's my own customised game (i got fed up with all these NPC's having their own weapons, like haer dalis, so just created some for me). At the moment i have gone through chapter 1 and 2, and i am in the naskel mines, but i have done basicaly every quest available at this stage. I have a question, why is Sendai in this game, as an anmish hunter, when she appears as a drow in TOB. I mean you can even kill her in TOB.

I noticed a couple of people with similar names from BG-ToB. It doesn't mean it's the same person. It would be unrealistic if everybody had different names.

I have played my Human Chaotic Good Fighter(9)/Cleric through BG1 to somewhere in ToB. He was great at frontline fighting (even with just 9 Fighter levels) and a killer priest. I'm now playing a Paladin (he has amazing stats :D) through Baldur's Gate I. I plan to take him all the way through to Throne of Bhaal.

Yes I did it with my fighter mage! It's really cool to do it you really grow attached to your caracter, and that's the way a D&D game should be!

Just started with a fighter tonight, to be DC'ed to a cleric at level 2

Stats: str 18 dex 18 cons 15 int 14 wis 18 and cha 10. total 93, not bad.....it's no 97 sure, but still, not bad.

Eww, soloing the final fight in ToB with a druid? I have trouble doing it with a six-person party.

Done it with two characters now. Going from Bg1 to BG2:SOA/TOB is a great experience and well worth the effort. I think Clerics/Druids benefit the most from the exercise because of the +3 Wisdom available from the tomes.

1) Druid - Human, Male, TN - S17, D17, C15, I10, W18, Ch16

With the tomes in BG1 ended up with 18 18 16 11 21 17. Became a Shapeshifter in BG2 and this character just rocked.

2) Bard - HalfElf, Male, CN - S18, D18, C15, I15, W10, Ch18

With the tomes 19 19 16 16 13 19. Became a Blade in BG2 and was just awesome in melee and with the right use of spells could wipe out anything thrown at me.

One of the things that I am suprised that all of you missed are the two major benifits of running from BG1 through TotSC, into SoA and ending in ToB.

The first and major reason is for your stats. For example, one of my characters which I took through was a paladin that started with: str 18, dex 17, cons 17, int 10, wis 18 and cha 17 (and man, how many rolls it took to get that 97). At the end of BG1, thanks to the helpful books of dex, str, int, wis, and con, all of which are scattered through the game, I had managed to get str 19, dex 18, cons 18, int 11, wis 19 and cha 18. One pumped up paladin :grr: , with total stats of 103.

That reason alone is almost enough to run through the entire series.

The second reason, and its a good one, is that you can get a certain pair of golden pantaloons in BG1 which, if you carry them into SoA, will become very useful in ToB after you gather the silver and bronze versions.

i've done it a very few times.

last time i ended up with a overpowered undead hunter (changed to undead hunter when starting soa).

Edoran Dreadhunter
Bg1: paladin
stats:
str: 18
dex: 18
con: 18
int: 11
wis: 14
cha: 18

that was the starting stats, top that with the tomes scattered around bg1, watchers keep, hell challenges and the other and you get a overpowered undead hunter wielding carsomyr or mace of disruption+shield of balduran

if i wanna do it again? sure :D

but first im going to put my other plan into motion (mages only, and the mages can only cast the spell of their school....well, you prolly know what i mean).

oki, im been raving to much and i'll put a stop to it here.

cheers!
