View Full Version : My absolute favorite
Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Thu, 13th May '04, 8:33pm I'm getting lazy, and I really don't feel like making this into a poll, so I'll just ask it outright. What's your absolute favorite class and race to play? I'm not asking which you feel is the most powerful, but what race and class gave you the most enjoyment going through the game from a RP perspective?
For me, it was definitely the dwarven fighter-thief. Maybe not the powergamers choice, but I enjoyed it, despite the fact I only had a 16 in dexterity.

Serpent Thu, 13th May '04, 9:11pm Elven mage/thief. Well, there are a lot of mage/thieves among the npcs, but this class combines abilities i like the most: spellcasting and thievery.
Splunge Thu, 13th May '04, 9:39pm Well, I'm a pretty crappy role-player, so I look at it from the fun-factor. I'm half-way through soloing a blade, and I have to say that this has been blast. Not bad tanking abilities, made substantially better with offensive and defensive spells - it allows for, and almost requires, a good variety in useful tactics. Quite entertaining.
Falstaff Thu, 13th May '04, 9:42pm Absolute favorite? Hmm...
I'd have to say the Avenger Druid, but the Kensai/Cleric pulls a very close second.
The Kilted Crusader Thu, 13th May '04, 9:49pm I like playing as humans, and as a barbarian or fighter. Always good fun for me from beginning to end.
Sarevok• Thu, 13th May '04, 10:18pm Human dual class Kensai(8)/Thief +
Algarion Thu, 13th May '04, 10:38pm Gnome - Assassain.
Allways lurking in the shadows.
Bombur Thu, 13th May '04, 11:19pm From a role-playing perspective, that would be the FMT. That let's me do just about everything myself, with NPCs for backup. My protagonist can take the lead in just about any situation, so that I can play from a first-person perspective rather than a third-person perspective (with reference to the narrative/story, not the camera angle!).
Takara Fri, 14th May '04, 12:41am I had most fun playing with a dwarven wizard slayer. I really enjoyed the no-nonesense attitude, that I felt you got. I switched away from dwarves, because their race prohibits romances, which is really sad.
CamDawg Fri, 14th May '04, 12:56am Oh, gimme an elven or half-elven fighter/thief. Nothing is more satisfying than chunking spellcasters to open a fight. :D
Register Fri, 14th May '04, 1:03am Wizard-Slayer(as if you didn't know that). Race? Ethier Human, Half-Elf, or Halfling, just so that I can romance Viconia. :D
Laiwethel Fri, 14th May '04, 3:17am Female Human Kensai/Mage. The ability to cast spells and use Crom Feyr or the Flail of Ages at the same time. Good fun.
Benan Fri, 14th May '04, 5:10am Elf/Half Elf, Druid, Kensai, Ranger, Barbarian.
Colthrun Fri, 14th May '04, 11:31am Human Wild Mage has always been my favourite. Now I am having a blast with a half-elf Bounty Hunter.
Faraaz Fri, 14th May '04, 4:46pm I had a run through with Frodo the halfling Mage/Assassin! :)
Before you start, I Shadowkeeper'd him...started as an elf and then changed my race later on. I know its cheating, and I know its not right and so on and so forth, but here I noticed that the topic was your absolute favourite race and class...in my case, that would be Mage/Thief, and race would be halfling...and if the race doesnt allow certain classes, then elf...and if I wanted to play a Blade...a Half-elf. NEVER a HUMAN!!
Takara Fri, 14th May '04, 5:02pm I find humans dull. I have to be one in real life, so I'm not going to be one in a game. Shadowkeeper allows you to play out your ideal characters, from movies, books etc. Since the problem is that these characters are often overpowered and not possible in the normal game engine.
GI Fri, 14th May '04, 6:10pm Mine is Human Fighter/Thief (How is that possible? Go figure ;) )
Dendri Fri, 14th May '04, 7:04pm 'la la la' - be confused and stunned by my impertinent songs. I play a human Jester almost every time and doubt I will ever tire of him. He is fun.
people person-i eat people Sat, 15th May '04, 4:18am Male, Elven Archer, because that is the realistic profession for an elf, they are reknown for their archery abibilities and its also really fun to play with :)
Beren Sat, 15th May '04, 5:21am An elven fighter/mage. In some ways it is a power gaming choice. But I have to admit, I have a certain fascination or admiration for Feanor as a mythical character. So in essence, I like to blaze my way through the world with a similarly constructed character that combines physical prowess, intelligence, and magical power. The difference being, I sort of think of it as Feanor as he should have been instead of Feanor as he became before he died.
And of course, much of how I roleplay centers around hooking up with Jaheira. No surprise there. So having elven ancestry, along with the concomitant appreciation for the natural world, provides a certain foundation for the relationship.
Koki Sat, 15th May '04, 12:43pm My favourite to RP would be Warrior/Mage, with one weapon speciality, long sword/Katana.
The problem is that I _hate_ elves. So there's a little problem, you see...
Xei Win Toh Sat, 15th May '04, 1:46pm Human Inquisitor. Elven F/T as close second.
EDIT: As funfactor as opposed to role-playing. I don't roleplay this game much.

casey Sat, 15th May '04, 2:01pm Too many to bother mentioning, but I like playing as an Archer, simple to play but so deadly at high levels he could potentially kill most enemies before reaching him, I've played as a F/M a fair bit recently and I'm not really sick of him yet, the Blades a near duplicate of the F/M apart from some major differences, I've also recently discovered from Yoshimo how powerful Bounty Hunters can really be in the right hands
lord of the realm Wed, 19th May '04, 10:06pm human assasin, assasin/cleric
the fact that i hide in shadows and bs mages of immense power while they are casting true sight is just so funny and even better mages are known to explode 2!!!! :p :)
Jaguar Thu, 20th May '04, 8:14am Human Calvalier, a force of good. Call me simple, but I enjoy relaxing in this game, and there is nothing more relaxing then a PC with a black and white view of the world.
Hyperion Fri, 21st May '04, 9:33am Elven soreceror. Power gaming, I know... But I just cannot choose another class... He is so addictive! Going to solo him soon...
Death Whisper Fri, 21st May '04, 12:18pm human kensai\thief
i love the half-elf ranger\cleric too.
totemic druid and the archer follows up closely
NonSequitur Thu, 27th May '04, 8:05am Stalkers - I know they aren't exactly uber-powerful or particularly tough, but I just like RPing as a powerful fighter who prefers stealth and striking from the shadows. Race doesn't matter - there's only three who can be stalkers and all of them can romance Jaheira, which seems to make the most sense for that character.
Half-Elf Blades run a very close second - can do just about anything, and Blades can fight, cast, lie, cheat and steal with the best of them.
Death Whisper Thu, 27th May '04, 11:27am I love the kensai, and is quite fond of elfs.
but the one who gave me lots of fun must be a halfling assasin :)
Zephyr Angel Thu, 27th May '04, 2:27pm I wanna Drow! Okay, so the closest I can get is a stinking surfacer, but whatever, I love Elves!
And i think that Sorcerers rule! Imagine hurling 7 fireballs ate a rampaging horde of svirfneblin?
Ancient Galatan Tue, 1st Jun '04, 1:40pm Human Cavalier, because i feel attracted to be a noble and honest person, even in real-life.
Wordplay Tue, 1st Jun '04, 2:15pm I would never choose a paladin, and I dislike clerics only a bit less. :nolike:
My absolute favorite is half-elven sorcerer. In almost every game I end up building this kind of character, no matter what the game is. I guess #2 would be the 'Thief' -class, as I rather like the idea.
Darkstrike Tue, 1st Jun '04, 2:31pm The best class has to be half-elf blade! he can do anything! just put cast stone skin, mirror image, blur, spell turning and then set a few skull trap spells and lure ur enemy in! :p
And when soloing ur lvls climb like mad! Just do all the side quest u can possibly do before you continue the main quest and you can hit lvl 30 or higher that way! So with use any item and spike trap and time trap just think of how dangerous he/she can be!
I killed Firkraag in no time! Had vhalilors helm and cast simmilaricum and put some traps down then got into battle! Died before he could do anything! Nothing can stand against the blade in mid to late lvls!....... the blade can even (at higher lvls) max out possible armor class with no problem! oh and dont forget the offensive spin :) and the defensive spin with a ring of free action! :D
Now thats a class, a little overpowering, but a excellent class non the less!
Faraaz Tue, 1st Jun '04, 4:21pm For sure Darkstrike :thumb: ...have you had a look at the Blade Guide by Scythesong up on SP? It's marvellous what you can do with them. I used to HATE bards of ALL kinds before I read that...and now they are my third favourite class!!
(Mage/Thief 1st, Sorcerer 2nd :D )
Also...you might want to try out the Mage/Thief...they can be pretty mad as well, if used right! :)
Darkstrike Tue, 1st Jun '04, 8:18pm Actually i did Faraaz! I used to hate bard classes (always thought of them as useless) untill I read his guide on blade class, and ever since I think its one of the best classes in the game!
I had played every class except any of the bard clases..... but I just dont know what my favourite is! Why is the sorcerer so good?
Elvenblade Tue, 1st Jun '04, 9:11pm Half-Elf mage/thief
I use SK to make him look like a human and give him 2 * in katanas and shortbows and 18/00 in strenght.
Call me a cheater but I like it.
Maertyn Tue, 1st Jun '04, 11:33pm Ranger/Cleric MC. Can shield his mind, plague the enemy, get whirlwind... lots of fun!
Niskers Wed, 2nd Jun '04, 5:21am Elven Sorcerer, but when I get really bored and just want to take soemthing out I usually play a fighter, dualed to thief immediately after dealing with Bodhi. Fun taking out Aran with a thief :)
Lutheo Sat, 12th Jun '04, 3:09am My favorite is definitely the Elvish fighter/theif.
Elves are just cool to me and there's something satifying about scoring a huge backstab...
Faraaz Sat, 12th Jun '04, 3:33pm Do the same thing with a Halfling Fighter/Thief...they're infinitely cooler! :) Plus, they get much better bonuses to their thieving abilities.
Dranalis DeAealth Sun, 13th Jun '04, 11:28pm Human Necromancer. Mwahaha!
Sarevok• Mon, 14th Jun '04, 12:04am Kensai/thief
Gehn Mon, 14th Jun '04, 12:05am Half Elven Blade and Kensai. I can't separate the two in terms of a favourite. I too am a preeetty crapy role player, so these I choose based on fun :) Blades get the coolest stronghold and when I do dabble in role playing I think there is none better. Kensais' raw combat power is unmatched in my opinion. Not to metion being known as a "Sword Saint" to people, man I love that! A title I may have to achieve in real life just for the coolness of it :D
Trminator Mon, 14th Jun '04, 7:31pm Human Paladin!
Why?
- No disadvantages
- Sooo many cool items he can use
- Good player stats
- A "good boy"..
wedGe Tue, 15th Jun '04, 2:34am Elf Monk!
casey Tue, 15th Jun '04, 2:39am Just a pure Bounty Hunter for me, this guys special snares and abilities have saved my party's butt more times than I can count.
drowling Wed, 16th Jun '04, 3:10pm Since I always start from BG1, I like to play a Human Dual-Classed Fighter/Cleric (http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=10;t=002675#000000)
spetznaz Thu, 17th Jun '04, 12:14am Haven't seen anyone picked one of my favourites yet, Stalker. He's not owerpowered, got a bit of backstab, ranger/fighter/assassin type. Jolly good fun, especially with Short Swords ;)
So is the Skald, using Short Bows, though they both lack a bit of power in ToB.
NonSequitur Thu, 17th Jun '04, 4:38am Haven't seen anyone picked one of my favourites yet, Stalker. He's not owerpowered, got a bit of backstab, ranger/fighter/assassin type. Jolly good fun, especially with Short Swords
Stalkers - I know they aren't exactly uber-powerful or particularly tough, but I just like RPing as a powerful fighter who prefers stealth and striking from the shadows. Race doesn't matter - there's only three who can be stalkers and all of them can romance Jaheira, which seems to make the most sense for that character.
Hey! I'm a person too, Spetznaz! With all the improved stuff you get in TOB, Stalkers can be vicious little bastards. The first time I played through TOB, the only enemies that gave me pause were Draconis, Melissan and Demogorgon (and even then, only the first one or two times). I agree, they're not sorceror-powerful, but they can hold their own pretty well.
Modhi Wed, 23rd Jun '04, 9:38am My fave has got to be my Cavalier. As a vanilla pally he was my first character in BG1 and i turned him into a Cav in BG2. A close runner-up is a Berserker/Cleric dualled at level 9.
Tassadar Wed, 23rd Jun '04, 10:36am Favourite class and race: half-elven blade. He was good value in a party. He was good value solo. Strategies with a blade were endless, and they would change depending on who else was in the party. Every fight was good fun and, depending on the enemy, never straightforward which kept things interesting.
