I just wanted to see how everyone feels about roleplayer corner. I enjoy it, but amunable to make it to the chat sessions. And why limit ourselves to one game? This is really fun, but why not start another one where we roll up a lvl5 char to see the difference between the way we play with a slightly more advanced character.

I enjoy RC as well! But me thinks it would take up too much time to play 2 or more games then the one...

Also, half of us are still learning the basics with the game and would probably want to develop at a more natural rate...

So in my opinion, it'd prefer to play at a more natural pace to give the beginners a chance...

I've enjoyed reading all the RC posts, and I've been waiting for the right moment to join in, but it seems like there are so many names going in, I'm having a hard time keeping track of everyone. Is it possible to get a separate group going, or have several groups of 3 or 4 PCs playing around the same area?

Thats an idea, but you gotta think about erran as well...ask him about it...

Perhaps DMs want to jump in and start they're own sessions then?

i agree... i have also been looking for a place to jump in. However, i have only played pen & paper D&D a few times and need a little coaching..lol

Not only that i only have the 2nd edition handbook which also leaves me a little in the dark. If there were some other DM's out there i would be one of the first to jump in :D

Ar, right, 'tis how it starts... Let's roll up lvl5 and go kill the guards! They have shiny armor! No, better start with lvl20! We will all have vorpal greatsword +5 and then we'll go kill lich or better demilich! Like that one in BG2, how'd you call him... Ugh.
The best adventures ever are done with lvl1-3 chars. 1-3 is when what you roll on attack still matters and battle is risky and exciting for you can still be taken out with 1 well aimed hit. When the magic missile can change the battle to your favor! When you dont have to draw sword each time you're faced with someone who's not wanting to do it your way!

I agree Sniper. Erran has proven to be an excellent DM, but of course, him doing several groups all depends on his time available.

Erran, so what's your take on all this?

So basically, the best way to learn this game and have fun is start on the basic level and learn the rules and fight the challenges from there...

I think Erran doing several groups would definately be too much strain on him, or anyone really for that matter. I know I'd hate to DM several game groups. But the situation still exists that we really do have too may people for one group. We have like...what, 8 people now? That's a bit much for any cohesive group. But I give Erran all the credit the world for managing to do this game and keep all these people on the same page *kinda*. Basically this is Erran's story, and I'm sure he wouldn't want to hand some of it over to an assistant DM. But then if someone wanted to come in and do part of the group as a full time DM, 8 is more than enough to split between two.

And my opinion on the levels is keep them low for now. It gets more complicated with higher levels, and since there are so many new people playing 3rd edition for the first time, it's much better to start off low. Now if you want to roll up higher level characters and have them fight suitable enemies in the chat, well, that's always fun. All you'd need is a DM willing to play the monsters or NPC's, and perhaps a few friends to join in for the battles.

Yes, right... Want a fight, get to the Nameless Room and I'll throw in some Balors for you ;)

Heh, that's ok, I'll stick with ettercaps for now, you can keep the Baalors (and worgs for that matter) :p

'Twas for those craving a lvl20 encounter. I could throw in ettercaps too, but some time ago Herf has cut down all o'my bestiary :)

On level - I believe it is important to rise thru' the levels, especially with anything 'new'.
If any experienced DMs want to join in, either as an ADM so the group splits eg -some leave town, some stay, or to DM in some totaly different part of the Realms, then let me know. Might be cool if it was someone from central - west coast USA to give some other players a chance at live sessions.

Another alternative is to have 'arena challenges' in the chatroom. Someone issues a challenge eg 5th level, 9000gp buy.
Someone else responds. Send the DM your chars and a list of items about a week ahead then they go one on one. Maybe have a league table. But that's pure combat - no roleplaying. Tell me what you think.

I have experience in DMing and would be willing to set up shop, so to speak. I am more used to running games in my own world but have access to FR stuff. If you would like.

Why do you guys feel Erran must DM it? if he's not DMing he might actually be able to have more fun with it. As I do not have the phb yet I can't DM right now. I plan to order it as soon as I get my new debit card, but I think I'll do it through a different site. j/k don't worry I'll order it through this site. If you guys only knew what your packages go through when they are sent to you. I work for UPS so I know what happens to the packages, and UPS is probably the best about handling.

I can DM simple fights, but that's about it. Really, having some sort of fighting league or whatever would be fun, though it might be more interesting to start everyone at a lower level and have them rise through the ranks, collecting gold for each fight one to buy new things. Kind like prize fighting, cept to the death of course ;) Though, if it were done, someone might want to start everyone at a level where multiclass characters have a chance against the half orc barbarian with 20 str :D. (does anyone really stand a chance though? ;))

Well, we shall go for characters at 25pt. buy and we don't have these stats. Anyways, 1st level fights (and only fights!) usually end in favor of the one hitting first ;)

the reason I said we should start another wasn't to get a fight club going. It was to get us some experience at playing at different levels. The dm's on the servers may have beginnning levels set at like 5 or 8 or something. thats why I wanted to start a higher lvl game going.
