View Full Version : Berakelkin
zaknafein Fri, 18th Jan '02, 6:15am in a small area halfway between Gullykin and Nashkel east of the tradeway is a few mountains that have rich veins of iron in them. a group of ten miners from Nashkel have been sent there to start a small mining and farming town. they quickly made some small structures and sent messengers to each of the nearby citys with offers for cheap land and mercanaries to protect them from the ogre's in the area. So far the town consists of the 10 miners of nashkel, 2 halflings from Gullykin and 5 people from Beregost. There are five houses, a tavern and a mine. The offer for cheap land and good pay for mercenaries is still standing and anyone who wants to live here is welcome. For any adventurers there is a fine offer as well. There are plenty of raiding ogre's that have to be pushed back, deep caves that lead a long way underground and the occasonal zombie from Ulcaster. The settlement is set in a small area between two mountains and a sheer cliff. (people with BG know what im talking about.) So come to the the town of Berekelkin and find your fortune. Just talk to mayor Yolodo in the central building to find your fortune today.
Now that the advertising is done this is a RP town that will grow depending who comes. say if tonnes of evil people come they could take over and desroy everything in their path or a group of good people come and the town helps others and the like. It is sort of like the dusty dwarf tavern except its a city not a tavern (but it does have a tavern.) As already said, there should be plenty of things to do.
IC: "Heh Ludwick!" a miner called to the bartender, "Any news on mercenaries. the ogre's are getting closer to the mine and a kobold almost killed the halflings."
"I heard that a few were comeing in later on today. Anyway, why don't you go and pester Yolodo with this, everyone has to see him anyway."
OoC: if anyone has any intentions of entering now would be a good time. As for a genral layout of the area. The mayors house is in the middle of the circle of five houses with the tavern to the west of the village. There are two mountains north and a cliff south. The main rock for mining is northeast of the town. to the west is the tradeway. if you own baldur's gate then you can access this area. its where a palidin sent you to kill the half-ogre's.
this is the first thing like this ive done so dont be too critical
Big B Sat, 19th Jan '02, 10:45pm OOC: Lol I used some guy's hobbit character generator to get my halfling's name, based on my name. Here's the link: http://www.chriswetherell.com/hobbit/
Also, great idea Zaknafein, but what is the time frame for this? Shortly after the events of BG1? And what is the tavern's name?
Ok here's my character and his arrival in Berakelkin:
Todo Gamgee, a youthful halfling had heard of the new town of Berakelkin and decided to come check it out. He was hoping to convince his girlfriend, Ivy Peatfingers, of moving from Gullykin to this new mining town. Besides, he wouldn't mind placing a bit of distance between himself and his soon-to-be-in-laws. Not to mention that he was a good shot with a sling, and wanted an adventure.
So one mid-summer day, Todo packed a few things and told Ivy he was going to be gone for a few weeks, to do some shopping for a surprise he had for her.
She wasn't thrilled about his leaving, especially three months before their wedding, but she couldn't convince him otherwise. And then there were Todo's parents, Dimple and Lobelia Gamgee. They weren't too thrilled either.
But his uncle, Hamson Gamgee, was excited that Todo was setting out on a trip all by himelf. So he took the young lad downstairs in his hut and opened up an old chest. Todo's eyes gleamed at the sight of the shiny short sword that his unlce pulled out of the chest. "For you, young Todo. Many adventures I had with this blade when I was your age. Use it well and stay safe."
"I will Uncle Hamson, thank you." Todo liked the feel of the short sword, it was just the perfect weight.
The next day he said goodbye to friends and family in Gullykin and headed towards Beregost, at least that's what he told everyone. He knew his real destination: the new mining town of Berakelkin.
His trip was uneventful save for asking for directions from a few farmers. Well, there was this encounter with a wild dog. But Todo didn't stick around long enough to find out what that was all about. He had chucked a slingstone at it and run.
When Todo arrived at Berakelkin, he was pleased with what he saw. It was no Beregost, that's for sure, but that's not what he wanted anways. He had only been to Beregost once with his family, and had decided it was too populated for him.
Todo looked around, and thought this would be a great place to live with his new wife, Ivy. He might even be able to convince his parents to move there as well. He approached the mayor's house to inquire about settlement.
zaknafein Tue, 22nd Jan '02, 5:34am Ooc:its set some time after TOB's over and done with. hmm 5 years sounds good.
When the halfling entered the mayors house at the centre of the town the mayor said to him. "Welcome small sir how may I help you? Oh why do I even bother asking your here with a sword right so you must be huntin ogre's. For tempoary stays head off to The Ogre's Kneecap and stay there or talk with the other halflings around to see if you can go in with them or buy some land now or later and get a house built. Oh excuse my manners fine sir my name is Yolodo the Mayor and you are?"
OoC: anyway as you already know the places name is the ogre's kneecap

Khazar Sun, 27th Jan '02, 10:32pm Hi everyone I thought this was a great idea so I just had to be part of it here's my character and background:
Khazar, as he is known by his companions is a well spoken individual, (being a half-elf it sort of comes naturally to him) he is also very inquisitive and was especially intrigued by the rumours floating around in the Friendly Arm Inn of a new settlement just off from Beregost.
His past is very troubled from the time he was born to the present.
His mother was a well-respected mage up until barbarians raided her village and imprisoned her in their town up in the Spine Of The World Mountains. Whilst she was imprisoned she met an elf ranger who was nothing short of a hero himself but had been overwhelmed by a barbarian raiding party and was thrown into their fighting pits. His name was Khazarad and although he was an incredible fighter and won well over eighty pit fights he could not save himself from his inevitable execution. It was in the cells that they both met and fell in love with each other. They became very close and ended up creating the fine example of a hero that is now standing before the sign of the Ogre's Kneecap.
Khazar is currently studying in three forms of main practice including fighter skills, spell casting and the finer side of thievery (i.e. finding/laying traps and stealth). Thus making him what many call a Fighter Mage Thief.
After hearing the rumours in the Friendly Arm Inn, Khazar was intrigued as to what exactly the miners in the south had made out of the land east of Beregost and so he ventured down there...
ic: Khazar studied the obviously rushed notice pinned up on the wall outside of the Ogre's Kneecap and decided that if they need someone to help settle and defend the place then he was their man.
Khazar entered the fairly average looking structure in the centre of the hamlet presuming it was the mayor's house the notice had mentioned. He walked over to the two characters chatting in the room, covering up his longbow and the, upside down double Katana hilts by his hips, with his cloak, and hiding the scar down his left cheek with his hood.
'Ho there friend!' Khazar called to the important looking figure talking to a Halfling.
'Sorry to intrude, but if I am correct in presuming that you are mayor Yolodo then I wish to see you about a small business proposition'.
ooc: I hope this was ok for my second post ever in a forum-based adventure.

Ashila Daergel Mon, 28th Jan '02, 10:25pm TeewsmaI didn't like the village where she lived at all, you can even say she hated it. She hated it even more than her parents, of whom she thought they were to soft, to sweet. Her parent were nobles, and had loats of money, that they gave to her, and everyone else that asked for it. But she thought they didn't gave her enough, she had just reached adulthood, and her parents thought that she had to learn the value of money, and stopt spoiling her.
Everyone in her village always said they wanted the best for her, and expected her to be nice to them too. She didn't have any problem with people working for her... but she loathed their kindness.
When she heard of the fights near Berakelkin she decided she wanted to join. Eventually she wanted to join the bad guys, but after having thought about it she decided that it was smarter to join the good guys: payed better.
She left her home inmedeately without telling anybody and headed for Berakelkin. She came there without any problems, walked straight to the inn and walked in. She saw the people looking at her, maby it was because of her looks, she thought.
She had black eyes and black hair, even more black than you could ever imagine. She was long and slender, and had a very impressive look, because of her being elf. Right above the middle of her two eyes she had a little blue simbol that seemed to glow a little. In her hand she held a wooden very nice carved quaterstaff and stood fier and full of self confidence.
She tapped the weasel that she had in her glittering silver/blue cloak and thad tried to stick is head out of it, pushed it back and asked 'hey, any adventurers here?'
ooc: hi everybody, want to join too. Only my second forum-based game, hope it was right.

zaknafein Wed, 30th Jan '02, 10:42am OoC: oh whats this? people are actually answering my post? wow. anyway out of general interest how did the child Khazar escape the barbarians? if you have no idea dont wory about it. and ill edit this later and add more.
"Oh excuse me for a minute my halfling friend, it seems that another adventurer has graced my town with his presense this day. Yes i am indeed Yolodo and i welcome you to the town. I am sorry but i am a bit caught up with my halfling friend here. maybe you could wait in the Ogre's Kneecap for a while and meet the locals? Oh i forgot again! who may you be?
Khazar Wed, 30th Jan '02, 11:43am ooc:I did not post the whole story it is way too long but the short of it is that he was rescued by a mage and was brought up by him as a mage inturn for theiving magical valubles from nobles. So he learnt to fight from the barbarians/magic from his mentor/and theivery form his mentor aswell.
Would it be possible to make a map of our humble village on a website so that it could get updated as new residents settle in?
Oh and a rumours or quests board would be ideal. :)
ic: "Sorry friend my name is Khazar please do not ask me my surname as I do not have one that I know of." His face starts to look slightly unhappy and contorts at the mentioning of his namesake, but he carries on regardless. "Both my parents were savgely murdered at the hand of barbarians. I new neither as I was not old enough to even walk when it happened. However I was rescued and raised up near Kara-Tur by a nomad mage."
"Enough of that now *ahem* I must speak with you about my employment." His face returns to it's normal sombre state and he continues "I wish to help the town by ridding the surrounding lands of the ogre infestation. I am fully capable of this task as I have had many years of honing my skills. All that I ask in return is a building for myself in due time, as I do not have anywhere permanent to settle."
"Oh and by the way have you any other young adventurers that may need training up? It gets awfully lonely on your own, and my Mephit prefers to sleep in my pack over engaging in combat, or even conversation come to that."
"But if you wish me to take my services elsewhere I would be willing, as I do not care for the life invested in drink like many other patrons in the taverns in this area." He gathers himself, and covers his scar, turns and starts to walk out of the room...
Feirhanith Dengeird Wed, 30th Jan '02, 9:52pm IC: Feirhanith walked across the wet, muddy 'street' towards the mayor's house. He walked abrest the wall inspecting the structure as he made his way. He rounded the corner and almost knocked over a slender figure that was moving hurridly out of the shabby wooden door.
"oh excuse me...." he trailed off as he looked the figure in the face. "well i never, Khazar! I do not know how but the Gods always bring us together in times of need."
Feirhanith was a tall, well built individual that was no older than the early twenties. Blonde hair cropped out from under a silver helm of fine craftsmenship. A fine red cloak surrounded his entire body, but where it opened at the front again fine crafted plate mail was worn over a fine chain shirt. A thick sturdy leather belt hung from his hip and across his left side the hilt of a longsword was seen protruding out of his cloak. He wore a shield on his left arm; it had a backround of stars upon a night sky, in the centre was an emblem of a howling wolf's head facing upward as if calling to the gods.
He look at Khazar's ill expression and said to him "I see that something must be wrong. Are they not interested in the services that you want to provide to this community? Let us go and see!"
ooc: i didnt know what to do next so i left it to you to decide. i hope you liked my intro, i dont normally play on message boards where i get to describe my character, this is only my second time!
Khazar Thu, 31st Jan '02, 2:08pm ic: "Hello friend and well met." his stern face turning into a friendly smile. "Aaah so the Gods have been at work again as I do not believe our meeting was by chance." "I have just tried to get an audience with the mayor but obviously he prefers the company of a halfling than that of Khazar and Beinar" He sets his bag down on the floor and pulls out a strange creature and sets him down on the floor.
"What now master I was sleeping did you really have to wake me?"
*whack*
"Look Beinar i've told you before you need exercise and sleeping in the bag is not it, now stretch your wings and say hello to Feirhanith."
"Aaah so the poncey Paladin is back."
*Whack*
"Hello Feirhanith."
"That's better Beinar I am starting to control your cheekiness a few more whacks and I think it will be gone."
"No master please..."
*Whack*
"How many times do I have to tell you NO BEGGING, now come on lets go inside and reason with this moron."
"Yessss Master."
"Come now Feirhanith let's go and see if we can get a little bit of ogre blood on my arrows."
ooc:ok we need maps, quests, rumours and lots of blood this is going to be great.
Big B Fri, 1st Feb '02, 8:00am Todo met with the other halfings of the village and found out that two of them were cousins to his fiance, Ivy. They promised to share housing with Todo and Ivy if they chose to move to Berakelkin. Perhaps new houses would be built in the near future as well. They also discussed how life here could be better if the ogres would leave the area alone.
Todo reassured them that he had seen adventurers who looked like they were capable of handling such a threat arrive at the village around the same time as he had.
"I might even join them, if they would have me," beamed the little halfling.
A few hours of chatting passed by and Todo went to the inn, to see if a party had been formed, or was in the process of forming a band to hunt down ogres.
Khazar Fri, 1st Feb '02, 10:35am ic: "Aaah Feirhanith it looks as if we have an audience at last" Khazars face turns friendly and warm upon seeing that he can get his own way at last. "We were wondering if there were any quests available, perhaps some ogres or orcs need disposing of in some of the most painful ways"
"Yeah I wanna see some blood, not my own of course"
*Whack*
"Beinar what have I told you before no interupting"
"Yes master" He replied as he slowly slinked behind Khazar and attempted to get back into his pack"
"NO Beinar you need exercise now stand here and shut up" Khazar turned away from the Mephit and looked towards the mayor. "So is there any employment I have told you what I would wish for in reward." Khazar turned and started to walk out of the room. "If you have any proposals you can find me at the inn recruiting new hopefulls, mmm possibly that scrawny halfling might be of some use. Oh and talk to Feirhanith please about our employment I have decided about having that drink after all." Khazar left the room and shut the door behind him, with Beinar almost getting his wings caught.
"Hey watch it master I won't be doing any scouting if these get damaged." The Mephit then slowly back away as Khazar turned round, half expecting a whack from him.
"Oh yes sorry Beinar it's just that that damn mayor is so inneficient and I haven't seen a battle for ages i'm almost getting withdrawel symptoms." That was his final words as they entered the inn...
zaknafein Sun, 3rd Feb '02, 11:15am OoC:im having troubles with my computer so i havnt been able to post. maybe tomorrow
Ashila Daergel Wed, 20th Feb '02, 9:51pm TweesmaI, who was still standing at the inn's looks up when she sees the two man entering the room. At hearing the word battle she turns her face towards them and answers: "Did I hear you say battle?? I'm a little bored and that sounds interesting to me... I suppose battle means money, I'm a little short on that at the moment. By the way, may name is TweesmaI, and what may be yours?"
zaknafein Sat, 23rd Feb '02, 11:56am if anyone wants to take over this they can cause i dont have time for this
theholygit Fri, 1st Mar '02, 8:13pm Drazhar walks over the hill the trade route was following and comes to view a quaint little village in between the sea and the mountains.
Drazhar looks up at small village and looks fown at his map.
'Hmm strange, this must be new,' a smile catches at his lips, 'maybe just maybe.'
Drazhar passes his hand through his platinum white hair and looks down at the road before continuing.
Drazhar loosens the long black cloak that covers most of his body. As he pulls back the cloak he reveals normal loose fitting clothes, made for swift movement and in the dark colours hat rogues sometimes use. A scabbard swings from his side and the handle protuding has an ornately styilised effect to it. A dragon is entwined along the handle with it's tale wrapping down the long handle to curve the tip of it around a large deep blue pommel jewel. The head is beant down on it's chest half way down the handle and the wings are outspread from the top, to create a gaurd for the hand.
Drazhar looks down and sweeps the scabbard back under the cloak. He pushes the sadle bag back that is over his left shoulder and starts on down the trade road. He walk into the small village and smiles widely, the sun creating shadows his face.
'This could be nice,' he exults, spreading his arms upwards.
Drazhar puts his arms down quickly when the door of the tavern swings open then closed, letting out some of the music being played inside.
Drazhar smoothes down his clothing and starts towards the tavern.
zaknafein Sun, 3rd Mar '02, 7:30am ok i guess i'll have to continue this, i update soon
a miner walked up to Drazhar. "heh friend, are you one of them mercenary types comin' here. If yer are yer might wanta
head down to th Kneecap, heard some of your type were in there. By the way me name is Rallod what be your's"
In the tavern: The barkeeper Ludwick hangs up a notice board with varios jobs for anyone who cares to do them.
On a new looking bit of parchment it says in bold letters 'MERCENARYS ONLY' and list a few jobs:
1: hunt down the ogres in the area-reward 40 gold a head
2: guard the mines from the kobolds that have infested-5 gold a head
3: defend caravans heading to Nashkel, Beregost, Gullykin and Baldur's Gate
other jobs include:
1: help build more buildings for the new residents
2: build a wall around the town
3: mining and transporting of ore
also in tavern: a foolish man of Beregost saw TeewssmaI and swore loudly and grabbed a bottle of mead from the bar.
"A STINKIN' ELF!" he yelled before hurling the bottle that missed her completly but shattered all over Khazar satturating him and his familiar. "Take that halfbreed!" the fool yelled
OoC:i'll speed this up a bit from now on

theholygit Thu, 7th Mar '02, 6:15pm Drazhar looks at the miner for a few moments and smiles. Drazahr sticks out his hand to the miner and shakes the hand that comes up strongly.
'Hello there, nice to meet you, my name is Drazhar,' Drazhar drops his hand to his own side and adopts a neutral expression.
'Mercanry, no my freind i don't normaly hire out,' Drazhar smiles, 'Well not any more that is.
Drazhar looks over at the tavern, 'If there is anything i could do i would be happy to help though.' With that Drazhar walks away from the miner and heads towards the tavern.
Drazhar swings open the doors and looks in, just as a bottle shatters over a group near the bar.
'Take that halfbreed Drazhat hears a particulary angry man shout from one side of the room.
Drazhar takes an indrawn breath as the bottle smashes and spills it's contents all over, what apears to be, a half elf.
Drazhar watches as the man slowly whipes himself off and look up sternly at the man who threw the bottle.
ooc: quite good idea you have going here, lets see if any oe else replies... :hahaerr:

Khazar Sat, 9th Mar '02, 11:14pm Khazar obviously aware of what just happened became extremely annoyed almost immediately.
He threw his empty tankard at the man and with astonishing speed drew his longbow and fired an arrow through it pinning the man's left arm of his jacket to his table. The man then fell backwards and being attached to the table with the arrow pulled the whole thing over on himself. Khazar in the blink of a human eye, shouldered his bow and drew both his katanas, moved over to the man and held them crossed underneath the man's throat and spoke...
"I do not know you and you do not know me or my kin and I may have over reacted but I think that you may have got the idea that we are not here to be abused. We are here as mercenaries and are going to help your pathetic village with it's current problems. So if you decide to get in our way it is your blood that will be spilt like your drink. Keep it in mind and keep away from me and my fellow adventurers."
Khazar sheathed the swords with immense speed and accuracy and folded his long coat around himself hiding his weapons and pulled his hood up, hiding his scar...
"Come Beinar we need to find better company. Oh and Teewsmai you may join us if you would like."
He then threw Ludwick three gold pieces...
"These are for the drinks and my tankard, thanks friend"
And with that he left the building almost disappearing into the shadows at the same time. Beinar hurried behind fully aware that his master was not in his best mood.
*Khazar to Beinar*
"I think that we shall go to the mines as I think they might be having a few kobold problems."

Feirhanith Dengeird Sun, 10th Mar '02, 1:39am *looking up from the message board and turning towards the table where his friend Khazar had once sat but did no more. He did not realise that anything out of the ordinary had happened in the tavern as he was so deep in thought.
he looks across the room to where a turned over table was lying. a man was crouching on his knees trying despiratly to pull and arrow out of the table that had pinned his shirt to it.
Feirhanith immediatly siad to himself "not again!" as he realized that only one person he knew here in Berakelkin would do something like that. Feirhanith turned out the door and quickly followed his half-elf friends tracks, most people would be suprised at a human being able to find an elf's tracks but feirhanith was one of the few humans alive able to do this.
"I like the sound of the ogres, why are you heading for the mines!" Shouted Feirhanith knowing his friend could hear him with his unhumanly sharp hearing.
ooc: i want to kick some ogre butt. kobolds are fairly easy! Khazar.
zaknafein Sun, 10th Mar '02, 5:55am All people in the village can now hear the man screaming for his mummy.
OoC: this is getting interesting
Khazar Sun, 10th Mar '02, 3:09pm *Khazar slowly wheels round to see Feirhanith coming out of the inn*
"Ok fine we will kill the stinking ogres, I need the money anyhow. Where are they? Come on Beinar lets go collect some ogre scalps."
*Beinar replies in a sardonic sort of way.*
"Oh fun master I can't wait."
*Whack*
"Ow what was that for master?"
"You were cheeky do it again and you will never get to go in my pack again."
"Oh please master im so sorry I didn't mean it."
"Yes well come now both of you we must find these ogres."
theholygit Tue, 12th Mar '02, 5:17pm Drazhar steps to the side as the half elf and his familiar storm out of the tavern, shortly followed by the human muttering a few choice curses under his breath.
'Hmm theres the prospect of a warm tavern, followed by mead and conversation, or the chance to soak myself in ogres blood,'
Drazhar sighs and starts to walk after the two adventurers, keeping a "friendly" distance from them.

I'll join jou... but how am I supposed to call jou??"
She looks at him with expectation and strikes her hand throught her long black hair. Then she looks down annoyed
"Pelz, stay in"
she adresses to her weasel who was sticking his head out of her cloak
"Make yourself useful and go back to sleep, I'm buisy."
She pulls her cloack back into shape and strikes trought her hair again, there is a glitter in her eyes and she sights
"At least... adventure."

Khazar Wed, 13th Mar '02, 10:11pm Khazar more than aware that there are currently two people following him along with Beinar and Feirhanith. He turns round slowly and Beinar walks right into him because he is eying up the chickens walking round the small hamlet.
*Whack*
"Beinar pay attention"
"Yes master i'm so sorry please don't hit me again"
*Whack*
"I've told you before don't beg"
"Aaah Tweesmai so you have decided to join our fine group, we will be glad to have you. And who might you be kind sir?"

theholygit Sun, 17th Mar '02, 1:10pm Drazhar carries on walking until he catches up with the small troupe.
He arches his eyebrow when he spots the new member of the troupe and smiles at Kazar.
'Ho there, my name is drazhar,' Drazhar bows extravagantly to Kazar, 'and you i presume, are Kazar. I must admit you did handle yourself very well back at the tavern there.'
Drazhar smiles again.
'So there is a nasty rumour around here about ogres, kobolds and the usual,' Drazhar takes a breath and settles his face to a neautral expression.
Drazhar waves at the other members of the troupe.
'Who may these kind people be?' Drazhar scans the small group and his eyes settle on the women for a moment before going back to Kazar again with a questioning glint to them.
Khazar Sun, 17th Mar '02, 9:30pm Khazar looks at the stranger and decides immediately that he likes him for some reason.
"Ho there, I do hope that you have not come to try your best to run me through for making a fool of the man at the tavern, but I don't really fancy getting blood over my blades today."
Khazar sees that the man is not that sort of person but liked teasing people anyhow.
Before he could reply Khazar spoke again.
"Sorry friend just teasing, I am Khazar and this is my mephit Beinar, This is Feirhanith my lifelong friend and companion in arms, and this is Tweesmai my new friend. Would you like to join us in our valiant quest to slay ogres and poke kobolds with sharp swords."
Khazar says the last bit in a jokey voice as he now feels very familiar with his new aquaintance.
"Please explain yourself my friend."
Khazar clasps his hand around his new friend as the group walks off through the gap in the mountains.
zaknafein Fri, 29th Mar '02, 1:15pm as the group passed the mine a terrified miner ran up to them. "OH please help up! Help us all! Theres a-a-a a huge insect down there." he stammered and pointed to the mine.
"It killed Jhon and Freddie." The man fell of his knees then whimperes. "P p p please help."
Khazar Tue, 2nd Apr '02, 11:34pm Khazar is slightly surprised by the strangers actions but responds friendly "Ok friend speak your mind we will help you."
Khazar signaled to Feirhanith "Quick Feirhanith help him to his feet and let him have a little water."
Feirhanith Dengeird Sat, 6th Apr '02, 2:31pm Feirhanith reaches down taking whimpering man by the wrists and pulled him up onto his feet. "here take this" he demanded as he handed out his waterskin. "lets go, we might find something mildly entertaining down there. anyway it is our duty!"
he once again looks to the miner standing there with the waterskin in his hands looking blankly at the entrance to the mine. "you will have to accompany us" he exclaimed, talking to the miner "we need a guide and this could be a way of avenging your friends deaths"
"come! let us go my comrades before the creature has time to relise that we are hunting it."
theholygit Sun, 7th Apr '02, 4:32pm Drazhar smiles and nods his head in turn as he is introduced to the half elves friends and his accomplices.
Drazhar startles only a little as the miner comes running out of the entrance to the mines.
Drazhar looks past the whimpering reck and sighs.
"Excuse me my freind," he asks the miner, "You couldn't describe this ginat insect for us please?"
The man drains the offered waterskin, and swallows noisily. He croaks out the description of the insect between shaking teeth, and slumps down to the ground again.
Drazhar leans back from the man and whispers to Khazar, "Sounds alot like an Ankheg, what do you think?"
Drazhar looks over Khazars' shoulder to the dark entrance of the mine and furrows his brow in thought.
After a while Drazhar shrugs and proclaims loudly, "Oh well all the more fun for us then!!!"

zaknafein Mon, 8th Apr '02, 12:51pm the miner staggered to his feet. "No sir! its no ankheg I tell you! Its armour is black as black and its eyes almost drove me insane when I looked into them!
OoC: is that enough of a dead give away for you?
Khazar Mon, 8th Apr '02, 11:42pm "Well now it seems like you have met an umberhulk if i am not mistaken, good job you didn't stare back he would have turned you insane."
Khazar readys his longbow in his right hand and asks the man...
"So then friend witch way are we to go to be graced with its presence?"
zaknafein Tue, 9th Apr '02, 9:16am "g g go down until the fork in the path then turn right, turn left at the next intersection. its in a roundish cavern. p p please kill it."
theholygit Tue, 9th Apr '02, 5:35pm "Hmm, umberhulk eh?" Drazhar looks lost in thought for a moment.
"I thought this place was infested with ogres and kobolds. Not umberhulks."
Drazhar smiles, and carries on more joyfully, "Well it has been a time since i have faced an Umberhulk, might be a change from the usual boring hack and slash of kobolds!"
The platinum haired man looks at Khazar expectedly, "what do you think, a bit too far out of our league?"
The last line is said with a smile and a hint of sarcasm.
Khazar Thu, 11th Apr '02, 12:29am "Hah out of our league haven't heard thatin a long time...(wasn't it that red dragon we fought down in amn?... hmm) yes anyway I think it shouldn't be too much trouble if we close our eyes. Nah can't do that, oh well always liked a good blind fight, I think we need the strongest person at the front that being hmm Feirhanith... then I will go at the back and fire arrows over his shoulder and Drazhar can you flank the beast if you get the chance to, and scout for any friends if it is neccessary and anyone left could you please flank from the oppostie side to Drazhar. If anyone has any other ideas could they take it up with Beinar cos he's a pain and they wil fit right in with him."
Khazar readies his bow likewise do the rest with their chosen weapons, Khazar looks towards Drazhar and realises he may just have a new friend after all.
The party set off to look for the beast...
zaknafein Thu, 11th Apr '02, 12:07pm OoC: out of not so general interest, is anyone besides Drazhar,Khazar and Feirhanith still here?
IC: In the first chamber of the mines there were 5 terrified miners running about, Drazhar recognised one as the miner Rallod. Someone from the back of the chamber called out "The adventurers are here! They'll help us!"
People calmed slightly and started to crowd around the party to get information of what was happening.
theholygit Thu, 11th Apr '02, 1:21pm Drazhar unsheaths his longsword, and alongside Feirhanith and Khazar, walks through the mines. As they reach the darker portion of the mines, Drazhars' pomel jewel, on the handle of his longsword, glows with a faint blue light that lightens up most of the dark corners.
The group spans out and assembles themselves as was fit to Khazars' instructions.
Feirhanith walks forward in front of everyone in the group whilst Khazar notches an arrow into his bow, and stays to the back of the small troupe.
Drazhar turns his sword so the blade is along his arm, the pommel lighting up the way. As they reach the first chamber there is faint firelight from the torches placed around the walls to give sufficient light to see through the darkness that comes with every cave, mine and dungeon.
The blue light from Drazhars' pommel jewel fades and goes out when they reach the chamber.
Drazhar smiles when all the miners rush towards the adventurers.
The tall man pokes Khazar in the ribs and smiles mockingly, "Heh, looks like our reputation has got past us, eh?" Drazhar laughs and scans the faces of the miners and smiles when he spots the face of Rallod, "ah at least theres someone particulary sane in here, i'll go and say hello."
Before Drazhar could walk towards the miner three pairs of glowing eyes appear from one of the many tunnels branching off away from the chamber.
Drazhar points and shouts to his companians, "Ho! Incoming!"
ooc: haven't overstepped my mark here have i Zaknafein? And did you say that this was campagin of Kilren style fighting?
zaknafein Fri, 12th Apr '02, 8:39am OoC: dont worry about it
Ic: From the direction that Drazhar had pointed out a terrified looking kobold hopped out. It screamed something in deciferable before a huge black claw ripped it apart from behind. The miners panicked and one slammed into Khazar, knocking him back. The umberhulk stepped into the area, its eyes causeing the miners to stumble around, further hindering the adventurers eforts. In its pinsers the umberhulk snaped an unforunate miner in two and began to devour him...
[This message has been edited by zaknafein (edited April 12, 2002).]
theholygit Fri, 12th Apr '02, 1:43pm Drazhar takes a step back, a look of extreme annoyance crossing over his face. Drazhar tosses a scrambling miner away from his feet and strides towards one of the torches set in one of the various alcoves along the wall.
The tall man picks up the torch and smiles before putting it out in a barrel of water. As the light from the torch fades out, Drazhar uses the darkness to disappear along with the shadows.
Khazar Sat, 13th Apr '02, 1:57pm Khazar kicks the miner aside and apologises but pulls the bow to aim at the beast and lets the arrow fly not knowing whether it was good enough to hit.
In less than a split second the half-elf shoulders his bow and draws his Katanas the blade of one now coursing with fire along its edge and slightly lights up the cavern but not enough to see everything, and he charges into the fray jumping over parts of the miner and kobold.
theholygit Sat, 13th Apr '02, 6:38pm ooc: Any sign of Feirhanith? Would be nice to know what he is planning on doing.
ic: Drazhar stalks through the shadows and watches as the Half elf looses an arrow at the giant insect. The arrow splinters of the strong exoskeloton of the bug.
Drazhar watches in facination as Khazar draws two katanas, both of which look as if they have had alot of magical properties fused with them.
Drazhar walks through the shadows with ease and stops when he comes behind the hissing overgrown beetle.
Feirhanith Dengeird Sun, 14th Apr '02, 9:45pm "well that will explain what that cobold says!!" Fierhanith shouts so his friends can hear over the sounds of battle. Drawing his longsword and equiping his shield, Feirhanith casually strides towards the lumbering creature. Slicing across one of the legs to his left, he is caught full on in his brest plate by another leg as the overgrown beetle lashed out in pain. Feirhanith thrown through the air, to come to rest against the cave wall quickly regains his thoughts and staggers to his feet.
"It is good for us that i am able to speak draconic my friends. The Kobold said something about little big things, he must have meant the umberhulk. But that must mean....."
theholygit Mon, 15th Apr '02, 4:38pm Drazhar watches silently as the warrior, Feirhanith, cleanly cuts off one of insects legs, but winces as he is thrown across the room by a decently placed strike from the bug.
A glint of metal reflects the torchlight as Drazhars sword is raised. He silently walks out of the shadows and plunges the sword, hilt deep, into the soft part between the giant insect chitaneous armour.
Before the Bug could react to the attack, Drazhar quickly pulls his sword out and goes for a slashing attack across the insects sunken head.
Khazar Mon, 15th Apr '02, 11:07pm Khazar runs towards the recoiling beast and feels feirhaniths pain as he is thrown across the cavern but charges the beast in revenge.
Khazar slashes with both his Katanas at the same time concentrating on not being confused.
Khazars slashes both hit home the first cleaving off the right hand claw of the beast.
The second meets with Drazhars blade at the beasts neck and the joint power of both blows slices through the neck of the beast, separating its head from its shoulders but at the same time takes a three inch piece of Drazhars sword tip off.
zaknafein Tue, 16th Apr '02, 5:13am OoC: at least you were been realistic about the whole thing. i'll finish my post later
IC: the miners scrambled up and many of them congratulated the adventurers for their great job. Rallod went up to Drazhar and said to him. "Hey, friend, I think I can fix that sword of yours, it may come in useful, especially if your gonna head down te see if there are any more of those things. If that is of couse what you are planning."
[This message has been edited by zaknafein (edited April 16, 2002).]
Khazar Wed, 17th Apr '02, 2:35pm Khazar picks up the beasts head and turns to the miners in the room...
"I was just thinking, can any of you make this into a helmet? I have a friend that might like it."
Khazar calls over Beinar who had been hiding behind an upturned minecart the whole time...
"Beinar hold this."
"Ok master, you did well."
"Thanks."
Khazar sheatches his remaining sword, wiping off the blood at the same time and turns to his companions.
"So where to now then deeper or out to hunt ogres."
Beinar drops the head upon hearing 'deeper' but quickly pick it up again.
"No deeper master Beinar not to happy."
*Whack*
"Ow"
"Beinar shut up it isn't up to you, what says you then?"
Khazar suddenly realises Feirhanith and runs over to help him up.
"You ok friend?"
Feirhanith Dengeird Wed, 17th Apr '02, 5:52pm "yes, yes. i am ok. it will take more than that to get rid of me!" Feirhanith says with a smile. "we must go deeper into these mines. once the infant ones grow, they will be coming back up here to look for food. but there will be many more of them in the future and will be harder to stop."
"let us go now, i am growing weary of waiting" Feirhanith explores the cavern that they are standing in and makes his calculations. "i choose this way!" with that he was gone into the darkness.
theholygit Thu, 18th Apr '02, 5:37pm Drazhar looks at Feirhaniths fastly retreating back, and then looks at Khazar.
"So how comes he knows about Umberhulks? And do you think he even knows the way? I mean i'm sure he does, not that i want to insult the big guys prowes at finding his way around...well...caves but I have only just met the guy."
At Khazars continued silence Drazhar shrgs and walks on to follow Feirhanith.
zaknafein Fri, 19th Apr '02, 10:32am the passage that they chose wound down until it came to a fork in the passage. There was no sound coming from either of them or any light.
Khazar Fri, 19th Apr '02, 3:09pm "Ok well now we don't know where we're going oh fun, Feirhanith you still here? Hang on guys i'll shed some light on this place to see what we have on offer."
Khazar drew his FIre Katana 'The Angel of Light' and held it out in front of him and waved it a little around them to make some sense of where they were.
"See anything guys? Oh and Beinar get in my pack with the Umberhulk head too, I still want that helmet."
In a tired voice the Mephit replies.
"Yes master"
And he got in his pack and fell asleep almost instantly.
zaknafein Sun, 21st Apr '02, 6:34am with the light from his katana, Khazar saw umberhulk tracks leading from the left fork
theholygit Sun, 21st Apr '02, 11:27am "well now a fork in the road," Drazhar stoops and picks up a piece of silver cutlery, "hmm." Drazhar tosses it away and consults with Khazar.
"What way? Theres umberhulk tracks to the left, but that seems to lead further into the caves, but the right seems to carry on in this level, and there might still be more umberhulks on this level. What to do?" Drazhar asks Khazar imploringly.
Khazar Sun, 21st Apr '02, 5:29pm Khazar sees the tracks and says to the group...
"We will go left the track seem fairly new, and Feirhanith needs to see battle he is getting withdrawel symptoms."
The group take the left tunnel Khazar up front with his Katana lighting the way, with Feirhanith and Drazhar following...
zaknafein Mon, 22nd Apr '02, 10:44am by following the left tunnel they came into a large chamber with up to five bodies (It was hard to tell as many of the bodies were in numerous pieces). There was a umberhulk dug passage that sloped down with no signs of leveling out anytime soon. There was a faint smell of death coming from down there.
Feirhanith Dengeird Fri, 26th Apr '02, 7:35pm "I smell the smell of a fight. let us go down that passage and kill some of those evil spawn creatures. they have no place on this world."
Feirhanith crossed the room but just before he got to the entrance of the tunnel he noticed a green glow coming from under one of the mangled heaps. he bent down to look closer at it. he moved the remains aside and there under a satchel was an amulet. inside an intricate web of gold was a green gem, the gem glowed brighter as feirhanith moved his hand closer to grasp it. Feirhanith was strangly attracted to the jewelery, he could feel his awareness of his surroundings grow and somehow become more acknowledgable of what he seeked. as his grasp on the amulet tightened the darkness in the room lifted and he could see clearly as if the cavern were illuminated by daylight.
Khazar Sun, 28th Apr '02, 9:21pm Khazar looks at Feirhanith and wonders about the new amulet, almost being drawn to it's light.
Khazar shakes his head and gets rid of the longing feel for the amulet, and turns to the group...
"Right everybody search around for any armour, jewels, money, weapons or any other valuable materials and we will put them in the middle here and decide on what to do with them.
*Sigh*
I will try to bury the bodies under the soil and rocks, but we need whatever you can find, and then we can rest a little."
Khazar sheathes 'The angel of light' and sets about picking up body parts and burying them under rocks and soil as a sign of respect for the fallen miners.
zaknafein Mon, 29th Apr '02, 10:28am There were verry few other items but they did find two daggers, a small bloodstone gem and a bottle of some red liquid as well as some pickaxes and a wheelbarrow.
theholygit Mon, 29th Apr '02, 5:33pm Drazhar looks around at the members of the group gathering items. Drazhar unsheaths his sword and looks at the broken tip.
"Bugger!" Drazhar swears outloud.
Khazar turns around to look at Drazhar, "Whats wrong?" Khazar asks,
"My sword, as you can see, is broken,"
"Yes that it appears to be, but we pointed that out back at the chamber where the umberhulk where,"
"I know, but i've had this sword for a long time. Many a time has it saved me from danger." At Khazars' unprehending expression Drazhar sighs and says, "What where you to do if one of your katanas where to break. It's obvious that they're magical, and probably of some value to you personally, so you wouldn't want to leave it in the care of a simple smithy, now would you?"
Drazhar looks at the pile of items slowly accumulating in the middle of the chamber
and his face lightens up as he comes to a conclusions.
"But, there is a certain smithy in the city of Beregost, i hear tell that he is very good with metal. I will seak him out next time i go through there. Anyway, to the matter at hand, the sword can be used for slashing, and these," Drazhar reaches under his garments and pulls out two leathely long daggers with black blades that shine a dark green,
"These can be used for stabbing, and if it doesn't kill them straight away then the poison coat will,"
With that Drazhar smiles and rumages through the dead bodies.
Khazar Mon, 29th Apr '02, 9:02pm Khazar just finishes covering up the last body or well parts anyway and turns to see the pile of abismal treasures the other two have found and notices the barrow and pick axe.
"You buggers you made me do all of that and didn't even tell me you found the barrow and pick axe."
Khazar sees there faces with looks of astonishment..
And then laughs to himself causing the others to laugh at his misfortune.
"Aaah yes anyway, I think we better take the potion do either of you recognise it at all? you can have the gem if you want (maybe worth something). I'll take the daggers as i've used them before and they can replace the ones I lost in Beregost last month. Take the barrow and pick axe if you want or leave it nearby we may need it if they have a nice hoard."
Khazar waits for their replys but cuts them short...
"Right looks like we're heading that way then."
As he points to the tunnel.
Khazar pulls back the wide arms of his longcoat and sheathes the daggers in two slots cut into his bracers on the underside of his wrists.
He then draws his Katanas with the 'Angel of light' lighting the way starts off down the steep passage after the battle ready Feirhanith.
"Feirhanith is it just me or have you just gained infravision, I my eyes are fine but yours seem a little better. By the way Drazhar i'll pay for the damage to your blade as you seem quite fond of it, no har feeling eh."
zaknafein Tue, 30th Apr '02, 5:28am the passage sloped down for many miles until it came to their first choice for direction. The way that looked like it was made by an umberhulk went to the west while one that could have been made by tools went south. The one worked with tools was about four foot high. Both tunnels sloped down.
Khazar Tue, 30th Apr '02, 10:08pm Khazar realising the fork in the roads stops the other two from going to find the umberhulks and says to them...
"I feel that although this is turning out to be a bug hunt we still have our main objective to help the miners. So we shall go this way to look for any survivours. I think that being a member of the holy order yourself Feirhanith, you will also agree. As the safety of others is prized above your own vindications of all evil."
Khazar steps over to Drazhar now standing a little bit away from Feirhanith and with the Paladin's back to both of them looking down the Umberhulk passage Khazar whispers to Drazhar...
"Sometimes I worry about him, he tends to act like a slayer dwarf, what I mean by that is, troll or giant slayers go into battle against their chosen foe and generally seek death at the hands of it. With a trollslayer it is a great honour to be killed in battle against a troll and the same for a giantslayer. I sometimes feel that is the same for Feirhanith as he wants to rid the world of all evil, for what reason I have not found out yet. But sometimes he forgets his main duties, to serve the public, 'tis strange that but I think it maybe to do with his family if he has one and him becoming a Paladin. I never botherered to explore it very muc..."
Khazar stops mid sentence to see Feirhanith turning back around obviously a little unhappy, but never the less spurred on by the fact that he has it to look forward to after helping whoever else is down here.
Khazar winks to Drazhar and thinks to hiself...
"(That Drazhar's alright really he's quite usefull, good friend indeed.
Hmm could be a Knight of the holy order meself really if I didn't have that bit of murderous tenacity in me... oh well back to the job at hand.)"
Khazar led the way into the tunnel with the 'Angel of Light' in his off hand lighting the way and the 'Angel of Death' gripped tightly in his left hand.
zaknafein Sat, 4th May '02, 10:03am They are forced to crawl down the low passage until they reach a chute and a higher winding tunnel. The chute has tracks for a mine cart on it. The lostish adventurers can feel the stuffyness as though millions of tonnes of rock is above them. (hint hint)
theholygit Sun, 5th May '02, 2:10pm "Hmm no matter how many times i have been under ground, i neer get used to the feel of a hundred tonnes of earth over my head."
Drazhar looks onward by the light shead from Khazars two swords.
Whilst crawling down the dimply lit tunnel, Drazhar swears as he stubs his finger on something.
Drazhar reaches out and picks up a spherical object and looks at it closely. From closer examination he finds himself staring into the empty eyesockets of a skull.
Drazhar sneers and tosses the skull over shoulder to land on the floor with a thud.
"We seem to be getting closer," Drazhar observes.
zaknafein Mon, 6th May '02, 6:20am er, didn't you say that you went down the low mined out passage???
Khazar Mon, 6th May '02, 11:41pm Khazar stops in the passage forcing the other two to abrubptly stop behind him and turns to them...
"I do not at all feel safe down here ifeel there could be a trap set for us you two wait here a minute whilst I just scout ahead and check for traps. I'll make a faint whistle sound if everything is ok and loud whistle if something comes up. Just search aroung a little for anything that might help us at all."
With that Khazar aimed the 'Angel of Light' towards the ground and slowly started off looking for any signs of deadfall or pitfall traps or anything that simply resembled a trap...
zaknafein Tue, 7th May '02, 11:36am OoC: as no-one is willing to tell me what passage you went down I'll assume you went down the mined one.
IC: Khazardoes mannage to find a trap that was skillfully made and would have dropped the entire roof on them. After a few goes he mannages to disable it. It seems as though there was a struggle in the passage they were in and there was the old eco sleleton of an umber hulk and what could be dwarf or gnomeish bones, armour and weapons which all look valuable.
Khazar Wed, 8th May '02, 12:23am Khazar returns to the two...
"Well that was a little challenge lucky I noticed a few flaws in the trap because being flattend like a mustard jelly is not my ideal way to go.
I noticed a few valuble item from the battle further on help me gather up them and we can see if they are of any use to us."
The two oblige and they all go to check out the remains of the battle in great detail and collect up the items strewn about the place.
"Well then what have we got then?"
Khazar asks as they all walk over to the centre of the area arms full and dump the treasure on the floor and go about identifying it all.
zaknafein Wed, 8th May '02, 11:06am There were five sets of mithril ringed chainmail, 40+ gemstones, 5 iron helmets and a bunch of mining equipment
theholygit Fri, 10th May '02, 7:59pm Drazhar steps up from behind Feirhanith to look at the items on the floor.
He scans over the chain mail and picks up one set.
"wow," he exclaims, "This is really good quality. The folk here really know they're stuff."
He drops the mithril mail gently and sighs out, "Well you lot take you choice from that lot. The mail doesn't appeal to me," at those words he peels back his tunic to reveal the green glint on elven bladesinger chain.
Drazhar smiles knowingly at the wonderous glances from the adventurers and says, "From a freind," He answers the unsaid question.
"So as I said before take your pick, just leave me the jemstones, they can go to repairing my sword."
Feirhanith Dengeird Sun, 12th May '02, 1:58am "i believe that i do not need any more armour" Feirhanith exclaims looking down at his magical plate mail and the mail showing through from under it. "these sets have served me well and i do not believe that will be ready to be replaced in a long time! But i think i shall take two sets to give to some of the villiage folk or new adventurers where it might come in handy to them." with that he un shoulders his pack and places two sets of mithril armour into it.
Khazar Sun, 12th May '02, 7:52pm Khazar let the other two go first and being last handed all the gems to Drazhar but saved a nice looking tear shaped gem for himself...
"Here you take these we don't need them i'll only have this one cos it'll look nice on my scabbard."
Khazar then looked at the armour on the floor and brushed off a very shiny plate with dwarven runes enscribed into it...
"If I run out of spells I can wear this, and i'll take another for good luck because they aren't very heavy at all really."
Khazar placed his pack on the floor pulled out Beinar by the scruff of his neck and placed the two aromours in the bottom of his pack along with other various items...
"Don't worry Beinar you can get back in."
With that the angry looking mephit climbed into the pack and fell asleep on his new bed of soft feeling mithril armour...
Khazar hefted the pack onto his back with ease and turned to the other two now admiring their new treasures...
"Right then we shall continue down here to see if there are any survivors left, this is starting to get a little tedious at finding all these bodies and no survivours or the assailants."
The group gathered up and led by khazar's light continued down the passageway...
zaknafein Tue, 14th May '02, 11:16am They went down the long, winding passage for a long time. On there journey they saw some collapsed tunnels as well as some more skeletons which were of dwarvish or gnomish size. The walk was uneventful until they went arround a corner where a strange gnome with crossbow jumped out at them and yelled something that they didn't understand.
Khazar Wed, 15th May '02, 3:25pm Khazar and the others whislt being fluent in a lot of strange languages did not know gnomish bt khazar realised the little feller was agitated and lowered his weapons as a sign of friendlyness...
"It's ok we are here to help"
Khazar said to the gnome hoping that he would lower his weapons and recognise common speech.
zaknafein Thu, 16th May '02, 8:01am The gnome lowered the weapon and pulled out a small, but heavy pickaxe. It tapped it on the stone lightly and suddenly over 30 of the gnomes ran out and surrounded them. The leader pulled out three sets of handcuffs and motioned for them to put them on.
theholygit Thu, 16th May '02, 6:58pm "Now the gnome is either a very dirty little fella', or he doesn't beleive that our intentions are quite friendly." Drazhar observes outloud, with a smile twitching the corners of his mouth.
At Fierhanith's uncomprehending stare, Drazhar sobers up and sheaths his sword.
Drazhar watches as the gnome first shackles Khazar then, Feirhanith.
As the gnome advances on Drazhar, he started looking around, for means of escape from the gnomes and his shackles.
Drazhar shrugs his shoulders and raises his arms, hands out in front of him.
As the gnome lowers the shackles to his wrists, drazhar spins his hands up and smacks them on the under sized creatures wrist, causing him to drop the shackles. Drazhar spins around and draws his dagger to apply it sharply to the gnomes throat, and with his other hand lifts him up in the air.
"No offense," he says to the gnome, "but i've always had a thing about being chained up!"
Drazhar looks at the gnomes that are now pointing their crosbows at him.
"Oh sure you could probably drop me, but he would die first," Drazhar declares loudly, and motions with his dagger at the gnomes neck a bit heavily.
Khazar Thu, 16th May '02, 11:53pm Khazar stepped back from his jailer gnome next to Drazhar and clotued him on the head much to the amuzement of the gnomes.
"I don't want any cocky crap from you, let him go and let them cuff you"
Khazar stepped closer to Drazhar "I want to see what they are going to do with us first the are obviously not violent at the moment and I want to converse with their leader if I have a chance." Khazar winked at his comapnion and whispered again, "And you really think they can keep me in these, i've already got the spell memorised so give it a chance will you."
Khazar winked at him and walked back to his surprised jailer and willingly let him take hold of the chain on his cuffs.
zaknafein Tue, 21st May '02, 11:24am The gnomes cuff their hands and march them through many winding tunnels which they quickly lost track of where they were going. They came to a heavilly trapped area which they were led through and past two large, stone doors. Here there were many gnomish guards milling arround. They were led through a underground town which held hundreds of the gnomes. After been taken to a cell in a guardhouse they were locked in until a gnome in purple robes came in...
theholygit Tue, 21st May '02, 3:05pm "Hoy there, another small person comes to us,"
Drazhar points out jovialy.
Drazhar looks at Khazar imploringly, but notices his jest made no effect on the half elf. Drazhar clears his throat noisely and waits for the robed gnome to reach the cell.
The Gnome greets them in a language that Drazhar doesn't understand, so he just gives off a large toothy smile and nods to every word the gnome says.
"You got any idea what he's on about," Drazhar says, over his shoulder to Khazar through his smile.
Khazar Tue, 21st May '02, 11:06pm Khazar looked at Drazhar and smiled "I'll have a go."
Khazar steped over to the edge of the cage and spoke to the Gnome...
"Look I don't know if you can understand common speech but you look intelligent enough to, and I was wondering if you could direct me to your leader. I have a few questions for him."
zaknafein Wed, 22nd May '02, 11:34am The gnome says in broken but understandable common, "Why have you come here, one of the surface?"
theholygit Wed, 22nd May '02, 12:17pm Drazhar looks at the gnome then at Khazar.
"Personaly it's kind of obvious why we're here, don't you think?"
At the gnomes inconprehending stare Drazhar sighs and looks to Khazar and shrugs.
"Do you keep in contact with the gnomes up stairs? Well if you do then you would know that they are recruiting any one and everyone to help them rid themselves of the trolls kobolds and orcs that are plagueing these mines."
Drazhar looks at the gnome waiting for an answer.
zaknafein Thu, 23rd May '02, 11:35am "Tunnels you were in have not been used since the fated day of the umberhulk attack, Many a surface year has past since deserted that area we have," the gnome replied.
Khazar Fri, 24th May '02, 11:42pm Khazar looked at the gnome leader sympatheticaly...
"We are very sorry to hear that had we been notified by anyone that you were in trouble with the underbeasts we would have offered our services. We are only here to help friend, Feirhanith here is a Paladin and so if we had any evil intentions he would not be with us and knowing him would have already attempted to kill us. Now come on be serious here if you want any help from us to get rid of the beasts then the first thing you should think about is treating us like allies and not enemies. You may keep us under watch by your skillfull arrers but I can asure you they won't need to use their weapons. Now what do you say, do you want help from us?
zaknafein Fri, 31st May '02, 11:17am "Any help would be welcome, but how shall we know if you are not from our enemies? I shall come back with a priest to divine your intentions." The gnome left and came back later with a priest who cast a simple spell and proclaimed, "There intentions are good sir." The gnome opened the door of the cell and took them to a more comfortable room.
ooc: if you want something just give a call
Khazar Sat, 1st Jun '02, 11:49pm Khazar looked at the gnome chief and smiled...
"Great now that, that is over could we please be let out and could you help us with a few things. Firstly we need to know where the umberhulks are, if there are anymore humans in the tunnels and if anyone could fix my friend here's weapon."
zaknafein Mon, 3rd Jun '02, 11:41am "Humans! Down here in the tunnels! Oh well, if they are they are probably dead. Now lets see about that sword," the gnome takes the sword and stdudies it. "A good sword this is," the gnome exclaimed in aproval. "A good mithril or adamtite tip would be suitable, I'll cut you a deal, if you destroy the umberhulk nests then we can fix this sword and even cast a few usful spells on it. There are nests of about ten umberhulks each, and abot three nests in all. We can provide a guide to the nests as you surface dwellers probably don't know your way around."
theholygit Fri, 14th Jun '02, 11:55am Drazhar's face lights up in the prospect of getting his blade fixed.
"Hmm mithril yes. Tell me do you have any silver in the mines?" Drazhar asks of their gnome host.
zaknafein Sat, 15th Jun '02, 4:25am "Of course there is plenty of silver. There is always plenty of everything down here"
Khazar Tue, 2nd Jul '02, 12:55pm Khazar turns to the other two adventurers and says...
"Ok then we shall help these people, so that you Drazhar can get your blade fixed and I can get out of this hole i'm starting to feel a little claustraphobic."
He turns to the gnome leader...
"We will take your offer friend but a guide would be handy to have around if it is possible."
theholygit Fri, 5th Jul '02, 1:53pm Drazhar nods his head in assent.
"Yes a guide will be useful for we have not an idea where we go in these tunnels."
OOC: Carry it on DM it may be slow but you can still pick this up
zaknafein Sun, 7th Jul '02, 8:11am ooc: hell yeah its slow but we'll try to pick it up. Maybe we should also get some kind of system going, maybe more D&Dish or something else entirerly
IC: "Good, good, yes, very good. Jubbel!" yelled out the gnome and it was soon answered but another gnome which came sliding into the around the door and into the room.
"Why yes?" it questioned
"Lead these three out into the deeper tunnels to near the umberhulks be, they shall fix this problem we now find ourselves in."
"Right away master," the gnome replied and began to walk from the building and into the city.
"Oh, and Jubbel," said the gnomish leader, "Make sure you supply these two for the journey first."
The other gnome came back into the building for an instant and bowed to his leader and beconed to the adventurers to follow him before taking off out the door again.

Feirhanith Dengeird Sun, 7th Jul '02, 9:17pm Looking around him Feirhanith was inspecting the details of the tunnel with his new found night vision.
"these tunnels are very well constructed, i do not believe that this is the work of gnomes....how did your race come to live here?...." Feirhanith followed the little being with his ever curious looks upon his face.
zaknafein Mon, 8th Jul '02, 3:56am "Ah foolish surface dweller beleives us to be our surface cousins. We not surface gnomes, we be svirfnebli, and of course we constructed this you silly old fool," the gnome ranted on while leading the group through the gnomish city.
The surface dwellers hadn't seen anything like it before. It was as if it was made from one huge rock with small houses and smithies everywhere. They recieved a few curious glances but most of the town was busy working and didn't pay much attention to them.
Jubbel led them to a small smithy where he had a short conversation with another gnome before he was given a long sword which he handed to Drazhar.
"You might want to use this sword while yours gets repaired," he told his and gestured for Drazhar to give his sword to the smith.
theholygit Mon, 8th Jul '02, 5:11pm Reluctantly unsheathing his sword, he hands it over to the gnomish smithy.
"Uhm, if you would be so kind my good man," He asks of the gnome, "May you just give it a new tip, i have an idea i would like to try and exploit."
The gnome nods his assent to the tall man and turns to his anvil, fingering the broken tip of the broken sword.
Turning out from the smithy's, the small troupe are led again through the many caverns and tunnel ways of the gnomish underground city.
looking up Drazhar spots walkways leading up and across the walls in the higher up reaches of the cavern they were passing through.
"Wow it looks as if you have hollowed out the whole mountain,"
zaknafein Tue, 9th Jul '02, 11:07am "Mountain? Oh that mountain. Only the highest point is in the mountain. Most of it be just deep down in the Underdark."
The gnome stoped for a short time to collect some packs which he handed to each of the advendurers before leaving the city.
The gnome obviously knew where he was going and just as obviously didn't like it. They were on the path that had led them to the city in the first place.
