Okay, first Pirate posted. If anybody notices any errors in grammar or terminology, just let me know and I will fix it.

Description of Turk:

Personality and History -
No known last name, at least not to the general crew. Not much of a talker, says what he needs to say in as few words as possible. Has leadership qualities, though others don't tend to trust him if they haven't known him for any length of time.

Has spent many years at sea, and is skilled in carpentry, cooking, and medicine (sea medicine). Has good combat skills, but mostly relies on the 'Kill them quickly before they can kill me' philosophy.

Appearance and Dress -
Turk is in his late thirties, early forties. His skin is tanned and weathered from many years at sea. Hair is blond, lightened by the sun. Is well groomed and clean (as clean as a man at sea can be) and is not adverse to good hygiene.

Turk has scar on running from the tip of his left eyebrow, over the lips to a boint just below the chin, as well as a tatoo of a foriegn symbol on the back of his right shoulder.

Turk's clothes are non-substatial. He wears black mostly, in a variety of different forms, but nothing expensive or gaudy. His clothes are neat, trim, and durable.

Sol
History and Personality

Corsair from the east, quiet but confident. Proficient with his Scimitar, through years of sea battles. Also, he is surprisingly athletic and acrobatic from climbing ropes and masts all his life. He grew up on board a corsair ship, and knows his way well around a ship. The ship was sunk when Sol was 14 and changed between several ships for three years before joining the crew of the Violet Marauder.

Appearance and Dress

6’3” and lean built. Dark hair and eyes. Quite handsome but not overly so. Wears white baggy, half masts with no shoes, no top, as he finds it easier to grip whilst climbing the ropes and mast. Moves with a cat like grace renowned of warriors.

Arvin

History

Was the son of a fairly poor family, and forced to work long hours growing up to help keep the family fed. Soon turned to some minor thievery to supplement his income. Got caught in his early teens, and sentanced to prison time. There he made friends with a pirate, and escaped with him a few years later.

After years on the high seas as a pirate, he finally had his own ship, the Marauder, which he had... taken... from an old rival.

Personality

As a pirate, Arvin was brutal, but fair. He was not evil, but greed motivated. However, he was fiercly loyal to his crew, and was always discussing his plans with the crew, and the details, with the crews representatives. Despite his loyalty, he was a strict disciplinarian, enforcing the rules of piracy with a stern demeanor.

Always on the look out for opportunity, he could be charming at times, and cold blooded when needed. He was the epitome of a pirate, and had gained a respected, and equally despised reputation, for sticking to his own, and dubious, morals

Dress

On ship, he didnt wear anything fancy, just boots, pantaloons, and a jerkin. But when going ashore, he often put on something a bit more flashy, just to keep up appearences. This would include an overcoat of the latest style, and a broad hat.

Okay, first of all, Turk is not dead. He is just wounded, but he is hardy and will be ready to move by morning. And he is a valuable addition to the crew so no leaving him behind.

BTW, the ship is in the process of being hijacked or looted, if you didn't pick that up by Turk's words.

History

The child of an unknown pirate and a local lady of loose virtues, Jean has grown up in Freetown, first as a street urchin, learning the arts of pickpocketing and burglary, later as a mugger/pickpocket, all the while honing his skills in throwing objects... Given his first throwing knife by a benevolent pirate whom he helped when *he* got ambushed by a rival street thug whom Jean particularly disliked, he has used his skill with this weapon, and more of the same kind, to survive and thrive into a more or less standard citizen of Freetown.
For health reasons, he's looking for a change of scenery at the time the story starts.

Personality
Growing up on the streets of Freetown, Jean has seen more then the average share of acts of depravity for a 25 year old, and is as cold and ruthless as any.
Surprisingly enough, he is not bitter or cruel, and can in be quite the charmer.
Ultimately, though, he looks out for only one person, himself.
He will kill without blinking, and is unlikely to meddle in others misbehaving if not disadvantaged by them personally.
Still, if given power, he will value it too much to abuse it.
Is slightly obsessed over his knives, and doesn't care much for pistols are larger swords.

Looks
Growing up in filth, he has learned to appreciate cleanness when his means grew.
He keeps his long black hair in a long tail reaching halfway down his back, stands a modest 6', and is lean and lightly muscled, with excellent dexterity.
He generally wears standardish, loose clothing, although all of it dyed night black.

If anyone wants to join in, now would be a good time, I know that myself and Tak want to get really stuck into the battle

@Lai: If you get this, it would be great for your surgeon like character to come in, during or (if you want to slay some sea dogs), after. :roll:

Alexa

History

Alexa doesn't know much about her past, only that her father was a man of medicine and that her mother died in childbirth. Growing up, she had an unusual fascination for both medicine and explosions. She became a competent medic, learning from various doctors in Freetown.

She also began experimenting with different combinations of chemicals and gunpowder to create powerful explosives.

Personality

Alexa is very solitary, mainly because few are able to understand her fascination with both healing and destruction.
She is unwilling to be involved in one-on-one battles, however, she is skilled in the use of daggers and pistols.

Appearance and Dress

Alexa has long, red hair, that reaches to her mid-back, however she always has it braided, to keep it out of the way of any possible fires. She is 5'8", with a slender build, and hazel eyes.

She wears slightly singed pants and loose tops, due to the many explosions she causes while experimenting. She doesn't care about how her clothes look, but she does care about cleanliness.

A bosun, or boatswain, in general terms, is the person who is in charge of the boats, sails, rigging, colors, anchors, cables, cordage, etc., of the ship, and who also summons the crew, and performs other duties.

Actually used this as my vocab word. Thanks Takara. :D

Hey Hugo, you had better make your argument good. According to the articles (http://www.thepiratesrealm.com/pirate%20articles.html) that Jean and all the pirates were suppose to agree to, you are in trouble.

From the accusations that Arvin made against Jean, the recorded punishments are that the offender "... shall be marroon'd with one bottle of powder, one bottle of Water, one small Arm, and shot."

So according to that, we shoot you, the maroon you on an island or in a small boat. And I have to make the call. So make a beleivable reason for me not to shoot you overboard.

I need to discuss it with a couple of the others. Maybe you should stop by the chatroom at some point because many of us hang out there, though your timezone might be a problem for that. If you do stop by when one of us is there, we can go through the basic guidelines for the thread, and find out what sort of character you are thinking of starting up. I will give you one warning. There is no powergaming in this thread. Uber-esque characters arent allowed. We're trying to keep it realistic. In fights, we take damage, not just give it.

HISTORY-

Lark lived in FreeTown from the day of his birth. His parents left the town about eleven years after his birth, and since then he has survived alone in the rogue town. He was a ‘street rat’ of a different kind. He did not steal or mug, but could handle any situation with his brute strength. Although he was strong and powerful, and some people were even afraid of him, life was not good for the orphan. That was until the day Marius and his crew arrived. After joining the pirate crew, Lark's life went from harsh to enjoyable. The life of a pirate was the life that suited him the best.

PERSONALITY-

Lark is always up for a good time and a laugh or two. He is a friendly character and, surprisingly, dislikes battle. However, this does not prevent him from fighting when necessary. He is a happy person, and easily mingles with strangers. But he is also strange, in his own way. Lark is known to always see things/situations from a different way to everyone around him. This characteristic is not always a good thing for him.

APPEARANCE/DRESS-

Lark rarely cares about his appearance and what others think about him. He usually is wearing baggy pants with no shirt nor shoes. He is a very well built, brawny chap, which becomes useful in battles. He has natural dark skin and a shining, baldhead. Lark is one of those men can take care of himself. He walks around freely showing his two broad swords to warn ‘interested’ trouble makers to stay away. But these two swords don’t always keep Lark out of trouble.

(OoC) For those who have seen the movie “The Green Mile”, I am picturing Lark to look like the guy on that.

After some discussion with Rally, I've brought up my concerns that the thread needs some rules. The last week has shown me that relying on common sense, has been a fatal flaw. So from now, these rules are going to be in force.

1. No Uber posting. Powergaming is NOT allowed. If you cant post realisticly, please dont bother posting. It's no fun, if your character is limited by realism, and someone else has "god" mode on.

2. There are 2 DM types in this thread. I oversee the goodies, and Rally oversees the baddies. I dont tell her how to manage her affairs, or her crew, and vice versa. But as such, we have final say over our respective sides, and moderate the actions of those on our crew if necessary.

3. If you are affecting, or interacting, with members from the other side. Ie, if Sol went on a sabotage mission to Marius' ship, then you MUST inform that sides DM BEFORE posting. The dark side does not get to play with the light side's crew, without my say so. And vice versa. You have NO jurisdiction, AT ALL, to use characters from the "other side" in your post, without that sides DM's express permission.

4. If you fail to heed a DM's warning, your character will be delt with at the DM's discretion.

This is to prevent total chaos in this thread, and people posting anything whimsical that comes to mind.

Breach of these rules will result in eviction from the thread.

If you dont like these rules, then feel free to leave. If you want to start your own Pirate RP, then I say great. I'd rather you powergame there than here.

Note to all and sundry: Marius' Grand Plan REQUIRES Arvin to be captain of the Violet Marauder, and securely in command of his crew. I wanted a few insiders for intel purposes only, and to keep Arvin on track if need be. How you wish to develop your own character is up to you, as long as it doesn't disrupt the progress of the overall plot. Mutiny would be considered HIGHLY disruptive. :rolleyes:

Lantus, if this changes your mind about where you want to be, there's still time to take a position on the Devastation or the ... whatever I've named Pete's ship. ;)

I have no problem with these rules. May I make a small addendum to them?

If you want to kill your character off, just do it, don't ask someone else to write the character death for you. It's unfair for the other players to have to write something like that.

That's a fair point Lai. If you want to leave the thread, and kill off your character, Please, do it yourself. Or let me do it. I dont mind at all. Just dont expect it to be pleasant. :p

Alright kool, ill join marius's ship rally. heres my char...

History:
Halvn has lived around pirates all his life, his parents and his only brother were all pirates. His family died a particully painful death when he was young and he was lucky to escape. At that time the life of a pirate was kind of forced upon him, and altough he enjoyed the riches, Halvn always has had a small amount of guilt in the back of his mind. He has been aboard many different pirate ships in his time, but has been on the Devastation for the last two years of his life.

Personality:
Halvn, although a pirate, is quite friendly, he is easily annoyed, but won't hold a grudge for long. On the outside he doesn't really look like a pirate, but at heart he definitely is.

Appearence:
Halvn is very short, about 1.5 metres, he is very tanned from his years at sea. His livid green eyes stand out almost freakishly from is jet black hair, he is never seen without his personal scimitar strapped to his back. Overall Halvn is alot more deadly than he looks.

Blacky... Why is Halvn able to know that Alexa is armed/unarmed? A blade in a boot, isnt obvious. Please keep in mind, if your character doesnt see it, or hear it, your character doesnt know. If someone was putting on an act, you cant just 'see' through it.

After much browsing after a few pirate related topics, have realised that the best time period for this RP is late 1690. Most of the notorius pirates were operating then, and the pickings were rich. Shouldnt have any effect on anything that has already happened, and some of you may have pictured that time anyway. ;)

Uh, guys... Alexa's cabin is small, only about 10' by 15', as a guess. Add on top of that what furniture may be in there, space is limited.

Having Reeves, Alexa, Arvin, Sol and Diego in there makes a fight extremely unlikely.

Agreed. And since the cabin is ABOVE decks, and not below, can people make sure that there isnt something already in the pipes before diving in. Ara and I had already worked up a sword fight scene, that would keep Reeves alive.... for now.

So Ara and I are going to continue as planned, and ignore Kilty, and Dalveen's posts. Sorry guys
