This might sound a bit dumb but i just got the game and i was thinking can u change the stats that u rolled at the start or do they stay the same, because i want to use the composite long bow.

Let's see if I got your questions rightly:

To use a composite long bow you need str-18

You also might like to have dex-18 for this will give you (a) an AC bonus of -4 and (b) a THACO bonus of -2 for missile weapons only. You, however, can achieve the same effect with the gauntlets of dexterity you find during the unseeing eye quest.
[/list]
Hope that helped

There are various items which allow you to increase your strength throughout the game, and potions which give temporary boosts. There are no chances to increase your inherent stats, so to use a composite longbow you'll probably want to find one of the items.

If you imported your character from BG1, you could have +1 to all stats, and +2 to wisdom possibly, but since you can't import from BG2 to BG1, you're out of luck ;). The first avaliable strength boosting item is the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength which sets it to 19. You can purchase it from Ribald at the Adventurer's Mart, in Waukeen's Promanade.

PS

At the VERY end of the game you could get a possible boost to strength...but I don't want to spoil anything for ya ;).

I can recommend the following stats as the minimum acceptable - and fully playable - if you play a fighter type character:
Str: 9 (minimum for Fighters I believe)
Dex: 6
Con: 7
Int: 16 (Yeah, a bit high. 11 is good too!)
Wis: 6
Cha: 6
These stats - total of 50 points - shouldn't be too hard to get. :p

After that dank starter dungeon you need some fun and if you choose the right entertainment you'll find yourself the proud owner of the Ring of Human Influence (sets charisma to 18).
What you do then is go buy the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength (sets your str to 19).
Next on the list is to get the Girdle of Fortitude which gives you 18 constitution and you don't even need to wear it more than to activate once every day.
After that you get the Gauntlets of Dexterity (sets Dex to 18).
After this your stats are:
Str: 19
Dex: 18
Con: 18
Int: 16
Wis: 6
Cha: 18

Note: Wisdom may seem low but I believe wisdom has a bug/flaw which result in no save bonus for having high/low wisdom score. Drink Potion of Insight if you need wis 18.
:)
