View Full Version : Phlan Website
Vanadin Sun, 13th Jan '02, 9:18pm Alright, the website is up at http://www.sorcerers.net/phlan/
As webmaster I'd be happy for any feedback, good or bad, please post it here :)
Zorac Sun, 13th Jan '02, 9:55pm Looks great! I am not that fond of text on top a picture, but I love the picture itself so I guess it will have to do;)
I also like the colour scheme. Keep that.
There was something strange about the gallery though. The popup window seems to be fixed size which is not good since I can only see a quarter of the picture.
Headbanger Sun, 13th Jan '02, 9:57pm Well, my interest in ALFA are surely awoken now! So we might meet again soon in another world.... Maybe in the Tavern of the Lauging Goblin.
I wanna be the first (failed ;)) to make a real big compliment for the lay-out of the site. It looks fantastic, the people who made this page did a great job.
One question: The banner just opens it's target in the same screen, can't that be changed so that it opens in a new screen ?(just a small detail)
You will more hear from me soon!
Another thing: Map sais that out community (Phlan) has no site yet... I suppose that will be changed soon ;)

Capt. Tripps Mon, 14th Jan '02, 9:09am Unfortunatly I am unable to read the text on the picture. The font comes out as too small and the colors don't stand out enough to make reading that small of font easy. Other then that the site looks great, navagation is easy, and I like the picture and general color scheme.
Vanadin Mon, 14th Jan '02, 9:33am Thanks for the praise guys, it warms an old wizard's heart. :)
I've made the images resizable, thanks for pointing that out Zorac.
Also the link to the ALFA application page has been closed, I hope no one went there and submitted anything. The application page is closed during the purge process and will be reopened shortly.
I'm sorry to say I can't affect the banner, if you for some unfathomable reason want to click it then use r-click :)
Keep the feedback coming, I wanna know everything, down to the leastspelling error! ;)
EDIT: Oh, I should probably say that these changes will take effect at the next update, which is sometime tonight :)

Headbanger Mon, 14th Jan '02, 9:41am I have to leave quick again but I wanna take a good look at the page soon (when I'm at work again)
I already thought the banner couldn't be changed :) Do you get money when I click on the banner? :)
Vanadin Mon, 14th Jan '02, 9:53am Tripps, you wouldn't perchance be using netscape? The netscape version of the is not finalized quite yet, and the text is harder to read there.
Voltric Mon, 14th Jan '02, 1:37pm Overall the site looks great, but one issue. When I use larger text sizes the center photo and text covers the sidebar on the right. I can only see the edge of the date and other boxes on the side. You may have already fixed this in the current update but I thought I'd let you know. Besides that everything looks fine.
Capt. Tripps Mon, 14th Jan '02, 4:36pm Yep netscape 4.7, glad it's not my eyes.
Taluntain Mon, 14th Jan '02, 8:27pm Headbanger, um, didn't you notice the banner's the same as on all pages of SP and the boards? Curious, you paying all this attention to banners all of a sudden...
Ksiel Mon, 14th Jan '02, 8:37pm Just wanted to come by and congratulate my pal Van on a sweet site... I will have to keep coming by and make sure you don't slack...
;)
Ksiel
Headbanger Tue, 15th Jan '02, 9:41am /me clicks suddenly a thousand times on the SP-banners :p
I was just checking the whole page a bit...
When it gives the site money I'm not too lazy to click every day on a banner :)
I once or twice aday for NWN-topsites Tal ;)
Taluntain Tue, 15th Jan '02, 10:55am Actually it doesn't gives US a cent. The banners are there to pay for our hosting. The host collects all the cash from them, not us.

I assume you are using Netscape 4.x as well? Netscape 4 has this funny way of interpreting "larger text size", it basically extends everything that is pixel-dependant instead of just increasing font size. This makes the picture move more and more to the right, eventually overlapping the right-hand bar.
I am sorry to say I cannot change this feature, my recommendation to you can be found in the thread named "The horrors of Netscape 4.x" :)
If I am mistaken and you use some other browser, please state which so I may see what I can do.
Headbanger Wed, 16th Jan '02, 10:41am Vanadin, check your hotmail email. I sent you a list with typo's on the page.. I found about 12 typos... Hope it will help a small bit in making the site even better then it already is ;)
Vanadin Wed, 16th Jan '02, 7:49pm Thanks a lot Headbanger, you've done a good job.
If I were DM I'd name you "honorary citizen of Phlan", but alas I'm not... Erran? :)

Erran Wed, 16th Jan '02, 8:13pm Maybe I'll do like Bioware and name an NPC after ya! ;)
Site updated, map of Phlan city added.

Headbanger Thu, 17th Jan '02, 10:39am Please Erran, for Roll-playings-sake, don't call a NPC Headbanger and let him live in Phlan. The citizens would never be able to sleep peacefully due to all that banging-sounds in the night :) When you wanna name a NPC to me, call him Marnix... :) However Im not asking for a reward, I am interested in Phlan and ALfa and I'm glad I can do something to help you... I do such things during my boring helpdesk-job so I'm glad I can do something while working :)
Erran Sun, 20th Jan '02, 10:54am Check out 'RC Euro Grave Danger' ;)
