If I have a character I really want to develop and roleplay, and he...dies at level 1, can I make him again? Just start him from scratch with the same stuff and the same name, or does that violate some rule, written or unwritten, in ALFA?

Nope... cant remake the same character. Actually must not.

You can do it of course but you'll see you'll have lots and lots of problems... even if there's no DM up to smack you. You cant play with a same name-guy unless you ask HDM (on DD that's Memneth) to clear your character vault.

You can of course create a same personality/class/stats/... guy with a different name. Doesnt matter if its just 1 letter different.

Oh, if you have any ideas about running to your old dead guy and loot him, know that it isnt the best idea :heh:
You also have to keep in mind that this new guy doesnt know what the old one did.

Basically, re-creating the 'same' character is a no-no in ALFA. You can create a relative if you wish, but they shouldn't be the same character. They should have different motivations, ideals, background, personality, etc. Since ALFA is a persistent world, re-creating what is essentially the same character is very disorienting to other players and their characters. Also to note, a consistent string of related character's quickly becomes unbelievable: "so...your Bob's brother, uncle of Bill, and the second cousin, twice removed, from John?" ;)

You can of course always stick to the same race/class combinations, and other things as well as is to your taste. But each character should be different from your last.

You could try a diffrent server as well, then the same character Idea could be used again without too much fuss
