I cleared out the ice temple, and before going to Kuldahar, I want to help Nickademus with his favor, but everytime I ask him, he says he's not ready. When will he be ready?

He will teleport you in when he is ready. You have to go to Kuldahar first.

Hope that's not to much of a spoiler.

And by the way, if you are not finished with the Battle Square, last chance is just before you go to Kuldahar with Oswald's ship.

thanks, no it's not too much of a spoiler. Right now I'm in the haunted forest. Are you saying that I'll be riding again with Oswald? Is it too late for me to go back to the battlesquare?

***Spoiler***

No. After solving all the quests in the Wandering Village and the haunted forest, you go to the Underdark. When you ascend from the Underdark, Oswald is waiting for you. That is your last chance to go back to the Battle Square. IIRC you can even tell Oswald you have unfinished business.

Anyway, it is probably best that you have waited finishing the Battle Square, It's not that easy, and a couple of levels later will certainly gain you an advantage. But do finish it. The loot is really worth it.

thanks, you've helped so much! but one thing I don't understand is the treasure. I accidentally saw a list of some of the items that I was supposed to get after defeating each rank, but I actually go nothing but gems and money (I defeated 3 or 4 of the ranks so far). Any idea as to why this is?

You are very welcome :)

You haven't completed the ranks, that would mean you are not a master of each rank.

To be a master of a rank, you need to win all battles in all levels of a rank.

There is 10 ranks, and 5 levels of each rank, so it is a lot of battles.

Level 1: You have to win 3 squares on a line, that means 3 battles. The line kan be horizontal, diagonal, or crossed over.

Level 2: You have to win 4 squares (4 battles), where 3 of the squares are on a line.

Level 3: You have to win 5 squares, where 3 of the squares is on a line.

Level 4: You have to win 6 squares, where 3 of the squares is on a line.

Level 5: You have to win 7 squares, where 3 of the squares is on a line.

Then you are master of a rank and get a nice item.

Every time you have won 3 squares on a line, you have completed a level. That means you have to think which squares you choose ,or you have to fight again. Because if you get 3 squares on a line prematurely, it is registered like a lower level. I.E. you have won 3 squares on a line but to win Level 2 of the rank you need to have won 4 squares.

Can be cumbersome , but hey, you get XP, gems, money and some really nice items, especially the Club of Disruption.

I hope I have explained this clearly. English is not my first language and Battle Square is not the easiest to explain. :)

The Rank 10 Item is the best =P +5 Brilliant Energy Short Sword.

Pretty much to beat, those you have to get the Level you want +2. So Lvl 5 you need to get 7 of the squares captured, once you get all the levels you get the Rank. Get all the Ranks and you get the Mastery.

Here is a little layout.

Lvl 1
O--
X--
X--

Lvl 2
X--
X--
O-X

Lvl 3
X-O
XOX
O-X

Lvl 4
OXO
XOX
XOX

Lvl 5
XXO
XOX
OXX

X=Square That Can Be Chosen Before Victory Of Lvl Is Gained
O=Final Square To Be Claimed To Gain Victory
-=Square Does Not Need To Be Taken.

Sure you can go other ways, but this is what I used. Also you can save between battles, you can run up to the north and chuck ranged weapons at the HUGE enemies that hit DAMN hard(Rehomaz[Sp?], Giants, Cyclops those guys)

Also be wary of the Greater Feyr, those DAMN THINGS more often then not will teleport to your party and screw your thing ALL to hell. They die rather fast but they are nothing short of a annoying....well...bad thing.

I've also noticed that in HoF mode....a LOT of the enemies will just teleport to your party so makes it that much more annoying.

Hope it helped ;)

Good explanation Larzs! Certainly better than mine :)

uglijimus, the halberd The Hammer of Lucerne can really help at the higher ranks since it got disruption ability. You will get the halberd before you run into Oswald again.

The demons and devils at the higher ranks sometimes teleport too. Especially the glabrezu's and the gelugon's.

Yeah, The Hammer of Lucerne is a great item(despite how piercing and slashing weapons....normally are NEVER suppose to have the Disruption Ability =P) it's behind the head monk lady in the Black Raven Monestary(sp) in the cabin. Personally I can't wait to get this item in HoF!

thanks Ironhawk and Larsz, BOTH of your explanations were great. You've both given me some motivation to back to the squares! wish me luck!

Good luck uglijimus.

Equip your best char with the best items you have, and be prepared to use the Power Word:Reload spell some times :)
