View Full Version : Problem with starting a new game
MrKrueger Fri, 22nd Apr '05, 9:01am Hi all, was wondering if any of you might be able to help me with this. I just got the Icewind Dale Collection, and installed Icewind Dale 2. Installation went fine, no issues. When I open the game though, it all runs fine at first, I can create a party, or go in and change options, watch the movies, etc., all no problem. But once I've created a party, and actually try to start the game, it goes to the screen with the loading bar, and when that gets full, the game just locks up.
I've tried reinstalling, running with and without the patch, changed every single setting that I possibly can to no avail. I've reinstalled DirectX, updated video card drivers...nothing seems to work. I've even messed with the compatibility settings that Windows XP has, and those didn't help either. Any ideas?
Specs: AMD Athlon 2800+
ABIT NF7-S, NForce2 based mobo
Geforce4 Ti4400 w/ 71.89 drivers
Audigy 1 soundcard
Windows XP w/ SP1
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
Newfie Fri, 22nd Apr '05, 10:23am You video drivers are too evolved for the game. Revert the drivers back to GeForce 61.77 and the game should load fine.
MrKrueger Fri, 22nd Apr '05, 3:54pm Ok, that worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch. Would have never thought to downgrade to year old drivers to get it to work. :)
Jechor Fri, 22nd Apr '05, 4:11pm Should also work if you downgraded the graphics options in the game perhaps ? I'd always be extremely hesitant in downgrading any drivers.
MrKrueger Fri, 22nd Apr '05, 5:30pm Nothing that I tried with changing settings, downgrading graphic options, etc. worked. Just the driver change.
LordHugo Sun, 1st May '05, 7:42pm I have a similar problem myself. And I DLed new drivers not long ago. So how would one go about downgrading their drivers? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I'm not the biggest PC whiz. ;P
Taluntain Sun, 1st May '05, 8:45pm Simply uninstall the current ones via the Add/Remove Programs, restart and install the older ones.
LordHugo Sun, 1st May '05, 9:01pm Alright. I see a list of NVIDIA Programs. Here's what I have:
NVIDIA Drivers
NVIDIA System Utility Size 0.79 MB
NVIDIA WDM Drivers Size 0.80 MB
NVIDIA Windows XP Stereo Drivers
What should I remove? All? And when I restart, should a new list be there to add or what?
Taluntain Sun, 1st May '05, 9:26pm It should only be "NVIDIA Drivers".
Before doing any of this you should have the older drivers downloaded and ready. So once you restart, you just run the drivers executable and it'll install the older drivers.
LordHugo Sun, 1st May '05, 9:43pm Older drivers DLed and ready? I don't even remember my old drivers xD Oh. By the way. I have XP. I just went to the NVIDIA Site and found a list of old drivers with dates attached. I also got abit premature and removed my drivers. Hope that won't hurt anything too badly. Here's a list of the driver updates:

Taluntain Sun, 1st May '05, 9:52pm Well, 61.77 is mentioned in this thread to have worked, so go with that. There's no guarantee this same solution will work for you, of course, considering it might not even be the same problem or cause.
LordHugo Sun, 1st May '05, 9:56pm Well here's hoping. ;D
