View Full Version : No importing from IWD1
Taluntain Mon, 4th Feb '02, 9:13pm How do you feel about that? You won't be able to import your IWD1 chars... Too many changes to the engine. :(
Although if it was done like in BG2, I suppose it wouldn't matter much. It might be fun starting from level 1 again.
Palpatine Mon, 4th Feb '02, 9:22pm Not that big a deal to me, I guess it might be nice to be able to import an IWD party and play in Heart of Fury mode, but I'll be wanting to make a new party with the new subraces and kits. Importing into BG2 wasn't that big a deal as you only reach levels 7-9 in BG1/TotSC.
Blackthorne TA Mon, 4th Feb '02, 10:34pm I've found that since I created all six of them, I didn't get all that attached to them. I still basically think of them as the class they each are rather than the name I gave them.
I hope we start again at level 1!
Corr Raven Mon, 4th Feb '02, 10:39pm Not that big a deal, especially with all the new kits and races. An evil party made out of mercenaries, drow and human, a duergar cleric... Finally, a drow!
Llandon Tue, 5th Feb '02, 4:09am I'm VERY excited about starting at Level 1. Think about this....the game must be huge indeed if it has all of the spells + from IWD/HOW/TOTM! I find that starting at level 1 makes the game much more exciting. I allways love finding that 1st +1 londsword.
Orkrist the Cleaver Tue, 5th Feb '02, 4:12am Totally agree. Some of these spells sound awesome, as do the new classes, etc. Whats the deal with this Paladin subclass?
NoYur_Role Tue, 5th Feb '02, 6:14am I think you would almost have to start at level one since where going to be deal with goblins at the beginning (not exactly the most powerful beings in all of Ferrun). Just like the original IWD. I wonder how many new classes there will be in total?
Mollusken Tue, 5th Feb '02, 7:01am We will probably enjoy many, many more hours of AD&D hack & slash, so level ups will not be few in this game ;).
void Tue, 5th Feb '02, 9:28am I can't wait to make a nice drow spellsword type character. I hope they include NPCs in IWD2, hopefully they will be computer controlled as well.
Turambar Wed, 6th Feb '02, 1:22pm There will be no NPC's in IWD2, you will have to make the whole team your self...
I kind of like it that way
The reason they gave for not beeing able to import from IWD is that the story in IWD 2 takes place about a hundred years before you walkid into Kuldahar the first time
Wildfire Wed, 6th Feb '02, 3:59pm Turambar:
Game Timeline: IWD2 takes place around 1310 DR, which is after IWD, but several decades before the Time of Troubles.
Q: Can I bring my characters from Icewind Dale?
A: No. Icewind Dale II takes place a generation after the events in the original Icewind Dale game.
:)

Crawl Wed, 6th Feb '02, 4:41pm I agree with BTA. There wasn't, at least for me, that level of attachment to my party that there was in BG. I found myself scrapping most of my party and remaking it just to play HOW/TotLM, so I defiantely won't mind starting fresh with a new party, especially with all the options for character creation they're allowing this time around. I am tossing around the idea of making a character or two related or assocaited with my favorite characters from IWD. Would seem a nice fit for a second generation sequal, don't you think?
Darion Wed, 6th Feb '02, 10:51pm I like that:...makeing a new party ...love create new chars and a Background Storys.
Sometimes such as funny as the game itself.
Making a Char that heard that his Gran-Gran-Granma or Gran-Gran-Granpa was one of the Heroes who Beat Bel., would add more deep for me in this Char...
Btw. all the new Kits would rulez a party !!

Yeah I just saw it, looks like I need new glasses.....and a good big cup of :coffee:

NoYur_Role Thu, 7th Feb '02, 1:01am Would of been nice to import our characters and let'em grow to like lvl. 50!!! then use em in player vs. player brawls
DemoGorgon Tue, 26th Feb '02, 4:02pm Really doesnt matter to me, I dont have the first one lol. Even if I did, im sure i would start over again with a brand new race and class.
Mollusken Tue, 26th Feb '02, 5:26pm Understand that level 2 is much more fun than level 50.
Wildfire Tue, 26th Feb '02, 10:54pm I think that it will be more fun having a level 1 character and leveling him up to high levels in one game, as they are doing, instead of starting off high. Either way, as the game is only 40-50 hours long AFAIK, that means that there will certainly be lots of enemies for us to kill :).
Gunthar Sun, 10th Mar '02, 7:14pm Starting out at level is much more fun. I like finding magic items to be exciting, not just "oh another +3 longsword to add to my collection of 30."
Slackertoast Mon, 18th Mar '02, 9:06pm You should be able to transfer some of your demihuman race characters.Don't elves and dwarves live hundreds of years. That being true than you must 'assume'(how I hate that word) that your boys/girls are toast(dwarf fell down a shaft and elf perished archery misfire)... It would be kind of cool if your dwarf could recant tales of adventuring about Joe the Fighter. "Never met a human I liked more than Joe.(drink). We killed more evil bastards than a goblin has fathers. Those were the days." (drink)

Mathetais Wed, 27th Mar '02, 7:11pm There was some discussion on the BIS boards (sorry, I was slumming during the crash) that they might take your IWD1 character data and "import" him/her for a walk-on role in the new game. This would be a cool feature if they could implement it, and it might just be enough to encourage me to actually FINISH playing IWD1! ;)
Rolsuk Fryulee Tue, 16th Apr '02, 7:52pm I'm all for not importing from IWD1. I mean there's no need it's more fun starting at level one and you feel more... pride if you do that. There is so many other classes and races I'd rather start over... but that's just me.;)
